Who is your favorite New Testament figure?

I would want to know who exactly it is.
I have been told at one point that it may have been Jesus’ guardian angel.

I heard it was Mark himself.

I’ve never heard it was John. Where did you hear that?

St. Joseph, because he would have been blessed with a lot of moments with Jesus that are not described in the Gospels, and, from what we see of St. Joseph in the Gospels, he was such a gentle, humble, and faithful man.

Tough question. Maybe Satan – next to God the Father and Jesus Himself, he’s probably the most important thread in the story’s web, and yet he’s quite elusive.

In a hypothetical situation such as this one I could expect anything, if not a straight answer then maybe something that has to do with Satan’s relationship with the world, God, his history, or his ability. I certainly don’t think it would be pointless.

I would be afraid to confront Satan without Jesus next to me.

Fair enough, but don’t you do that every day? If you believe that God is always with you and Satan confronts everyone every day, there’s not much difference (in terms of safety) between being confronted by Satan and confronting Satan.

Good point, but seeing him in the flesh?

Still very concerning. And anyway, the title was “Who is your FAVORITE New Testament figure?” I hope Satan isn’t yours!

Actually, I would imagine an awful lot of it would be:

“Woke up. Ate meal. Went to work. Ate evening meal. Went to bed.”
“Woke up. Ate meal. Went to work. Ate evening meal. Went to bed.”

But maybe:

“Woke up. Ate meal. Went to work. Performed random miracle. Ate evening meal. Went to bed.”

I’ve heard other scholars posit that the naked man running away stands for the disciples, who at that point all flee and desert Our Lord. The ‘Man’ in White sat at the empty tomb, in this theory, stands for the redemption and restoration of the disciples. Note that I’m not saying if I agree with this theory, I’m just putting it out there!

Personally I think the traditional idea of it being Mark the evangelist is most likely. Why else would he mention such an obscure facet of the Passion narrative?

Well, there’s not much to like about him (pun intended).

But he is one of the most interesting characters.
