The Father did not need for the Son to die to redeem the world, just as he did not need sacrifices and sin offerings to redeem the Jews. The Father knew that Jesus would be killed anyway.
I think when talking to Muslims and Jews, Christians should tell the whole story since a mere “Jesus died for you” is unacceptable to them and it is part of the reason they reject Jesus as a savior, that he would be like a whipping boy for everyone’s sins and they are no longer accountable for their own.

And as New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:29-30) also states that each man dies for his own sins.

How is a covenant different from a contract?
The covenant has to do with a personal, loving, dedicated relationship between man and God.
A contract is only a legal or business arrangement between two parties.

wow -you really had no clue to what i was saying?there are none so blind as those who will not see!
I’ll try again.

As to your question “Why do we have to be saved?” –
We have to be saved because without the Spirit which gives life to the flesh,we will not live after death.
We have to be saved from our sinfulness and doubt and separation from God in order to be saved for eternity.
Nothing impure can inherit eternal life, and no-one who rejects communion with God has the Spirit which will raise the dead.

As to your question “If Jesus didn’t take all the sins of the world for all time on himself then why did he die ?” –
He died so that we would believe in his teaching and follow his example of love and obedience. His submission to death on the cross gives force to what he preached. Christ takes away the sins of those who believe and follow him. The fact that he died for all the sins of the world says nothing about whether we are all going to receive his offer of forgiveness and salvation.
His atonement for our sins is an accomplished fact, but humanity’s
reconciliation to God is not,and a sacrifice must be followed up by obedience to God’s commandments.
If we refuse to believe in him and follow him, then we are refusing his forgiveness and salvation. If we refuse Christ,we refuse his
life-giving Spirit.

Most Christians don’t have much theological understanding. But Jesus did die for our sins, and he was whipped.
It’s mainly protestants who think they are no longer accountable of their own sins, because they believe in salvation by faith alone and that they are saved once for all.

And as New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:29-30) also states that each man dies for his own sins.

But Jesus was not a merely a man and he was not a sinner. Also,Christ, who is the Word,“has spoken through the prophets”,and so the words of the prophets are also those of Christ.

I don’t know. Both instill legal/binding obligations on both parties. And a covenant, from a legal definition standpoint is a set of mutual obligations usually contained within a contract.

The difference between a covenant and a contract is the difference between the personal vows of love between a married man and woman and the written document that makes the marriage legally binding. But God is not legally bound by any higher authority to save us,and he cannot be held accountable by men. We have only his promise.

Hi

I don’t agree with your outstretched unrelated approach. The Muslims, not a single one, was not involved in it.

Thanks
I suppose that is literally true… Islam pops up around 600 years after the fact.

So, "who killed Jesus (Catholic’s G-d)?"
Well, the short of it is like this:

Jesus admitted to the Jewish religious authorities of the time that He is the Son of God. His admission was considered blasphemous and a capital crime. However, the Jewish religious authorities had no power execute criminals for capital crimes; that power rested with the Roman government.

The Jewish religious authorities presented Jesus to the Roman Procurator - Pontius Pilate asking that Jesus be crucified for the crime of blasphemy and for His claim of Kingship.

After speaking with Jesus, Pilate resisted the Jewish religious authorities to some degree at first but ultimately and with some reluctance gave in to their demands to have Jesus crucified.

Pilate did so not because he judged Jesus to be a criminal but because he feared a full blown riot and he did not want it said that he wasn’t a friend of Caser if he left the King of the Jews live.

So Pilate knowing he condemned and innocent Man to death washed his hands of it and then handed Him over to be crucified.

Who killed Jesus? The Jewish religious authorities of the time and the Roman Empire crucified him.

I’m sorry but this is one of the most incomprehensible things I’ve ever read. How would dying make anyone believe what someone says?? I’m sure we can all think of many foolish people who have said things before dying. Does that make what they said in their life any more “true” or “untrue”?

God told Jesus to be Prophet to Jews that they were a wicked generation about to be destroyed. Jesus could do that and die then be made King of David and High Priest who makes atonement for the people so they can live. Or he could go with Satan and receive world kingdoms like Egypt and Rome that only die.

So Jesus died because he was obedient to God and saved mankind rather than himself.

The Hammer

Song Lyrics by Ray Boltz

christianlyricsonline.com/artists/ray-boltz/the-hammer.html

I was in the crowd the day that Jesus died
And as He hung upon that cross His mother cried
I saw the crown of thorns He wore
The stripes on His back
The water and the blood ran out
And then the sky turned black
My mind was filled with anger
My heart filled with shame
This man brought only healing
Well who could bring Him pain
Why does it seem the strong
They always victimize the weak
And suddenly I found myself
Standing to my feet

CHORUS:
And I cried
Who nailed Him there
This Child of peace and mercy
Who nailed Him there
Come and face me like a man
Who nailed Him there
And the crowd began to mock me
I cried Oh my God I just don’t understand
Then I turned and saw the hammer
In my hand!

I am just a Roman soldier
An ordinary man
I love my wife and children
I do the best I can
But how could I have killed Him
There must be someone else
I got to find an answer
I can’t blame myself

CHORUS

I nailed Him there
This Child of peace and mercy
I nailed Him there
I am the guilty man
I nailed Him there
With my sins and my transgressions
I cried Oh my God now I understand
When I turned and saw that hammer…
In my hand!

Is Jesus to be counted among fools? If not, then there’s no comparison. Jesus was not foolish, although his words may appear to be foolish to cynical,worldy-wise people.

The cross gives force to his teaching because he followed up on what he preached: obedience to the Father and love for others.

John 15,13-14: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

You are my friends if you do what I command you."

The things that Jesus taught are worth living and dying for.

God told Jesus to be Prophet to Jews that they were a wicked generation about to be destroyed.

No – God sent Christ to preach repentance and the coming of the Kingdom of God. Christ did not tell the Jews that they were about to be destroyed.

Jesus could do that and die then be made King of David and High Priest who makes atonement for the people so they can live. Or he could go with Satan and receive world kingdoms like Egypt and Rome that only die.

Jesus was called the Son and David by the crowds when he entered Jerusalem, and he played the role of High Priest at the Last Supper.

By your reasoning, Ghandi’s words should also be on the same level as Jesus’. Ghandi, too, died - living as he believed.

I would propose that what gave Messiah’s words an extra punch (they already had plenty of force just in His speaking them), was His resurrection from the grave.

Many ppl have died for a cause (both noble and ignoble), but I only know of One who was raised up and lives again.

Jesus was called the Son and David by the crowds when he entered Jerusalem, and he played the role of High Priest at the Last Supper.

Jesus warned of the destruction of the Temple right here, and also rise of Gentiles being God’s people:

Matthew 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

Jesus is still High Priest who takes our prayer offerings to God to make atonement for our sins. If we pray to God without Jesus we are as a thief trying to steal atonement.

God (Jesus) allowed himself to be murdered to bring about the greater good of salvation for all mankind. Catholic’s God IS Jesus, and it is God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. This is the mystery of the trinity. Jesus said himself that if he wanted to he could call down legions of Angels to defeat all these people persecuting him. He did not, instead opting to suffer so that we all may know the value of each one of our souls.

Jesus’ baptism marks the beginning of his public ministry. At this point when he emerges from the water, the Holy Spirit descends upon him and God announces the true identity of Jesus, “this is my son with whom i am well pleased”. At this time, Jesus takes upon his shoulders the sins of the world, he knows the hearts of all men, he sees the darkness in all of us.

God transcends time, he exists outside of its constraint. My sins today are the same as people’s sins of 2000 years ago, and they are all on the shoulders of Jesus and are evenly applied to his crucifixion. So in this sense, we are all responsible for the death of Jesus. Roman soldiers physically killed him at the will of the Jewish priests, but God allowed it to happened to bring about a greater good.

Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of God. Have you ever heard the term scape goat? Do you know where it comes from? Lambs and goats were first ‘infused’ with the sins of all present at a ceremony, through a priest. Then, the lamb “full” of everyone’s sin was either sent off in the desert to die, or it was slaughtered on the altar. Blood was offered up to God, and people would share in it, thereby creating a direct connection to God through the spilled blood of the sin laden lamb.

When Jesus came, he was filled with the sins of all of mankind, like the lamb or goat would be. His brutal and gruesome murder (slaughter) shed the sin-laden blood of the lamb, which was collected at the base of the cross as some recognized it’s value, for all man kind.

So, when you look at it in the context of the OT/NT, God led us up to that point: the passover, live animal sacrifices for atonement of sin, blood as a very deep spiritual symbol. He prepared us for the ultimate sacrifice he would make to save us all from the plight of original sin that Adam has left us with. In this way, all mankind is responsible for the death of Jesus, but it is through his death that the final sacrifice to God is made, and it is through Jesus (blood of the lamb) that we have the most direct connection to God.

Now more on time, time does not exist with Jesus. In the OT, you have to present the lamb to the altar, and present your sins before the lamb is slaughtered so that they were forgiven. If you weren’t there, you had to wait until the next lamb. You couldn’t say “i take my sin today, and infuse it in the lamb from last sunday, in atonement for my sins”. When Jesus took upon himself all the sins of the world, he meant the sins of ALL TIME. Jesus can transcend time. He can say “I take your sin from today, and sacrifice myself 2000 years ago for it’s atonement”. Padre Pio used to pray that his father would have a peaceful death, and he had been dead for 15 years! Think aobut it.

If you want to know who physically nailed Jesus to the cross, i think his name is “Big Steve”, and he hangs out at the pub on the corner

Hope all that kind of made sense…

By your reasoning, Ghandi’s words should also be on the same level as Jesus’. Ghandi, too, died - living as he believed.

What good or true thing did Ghandi teach that Jesus did not teach to the fullest extent?

I would propose that what gave Messiah’s words an extra punch (they already had plenty of force just in His speaking them), was His resurrection from the grave.

If you believe in the Resurrection, why did you disagree with what I said about the death of Jesus? The Resurrection shouldn’t be taken separately from the mystery of the Cross,of God’s submission to death in the form of a man,at the hands of men,for the purpose of saving men from death. The Resurrection happened because the Cross happened.

Jesus made atonement for us to the Father, but not necessarily in the rigid, legalistic sense.
If Messiah did not fulfill the requirements of the law, then there was no atonement. Torah (the Law) was a foreshadowing of the things to come (fulfilled in Messiah). (See the book of Hebrews.) The sacrifices were meant to illustrate the cost of sin: that sin ultimately leads to death. The sacrificial system showed that there was a price to be paid for sin and that there was really no way that humans could redeem themselves. Only G-d Himself, through Messiah, could provide redemption and atonement.

There were many different types of offerings besides the “sin” offering. Messiah’s sacrifice on the cross was not a “sin offering”, but rather an atonement.

I agree with you - if I’m understanding you correctly- that Messiah’s sacrifice was to draw all ppl to Himself/G-d. The [last] cup Yeshua (Jesus) took at the last Pesach (Passover) with His disciples was known as the “Cup of Redemption”. It was one of four cups served during the meal. The last cup (of which we all have yet to partake) is the “Cup of the Kingdom” (it is also known by other names as well.). This will be done when Messiah returns for His bride (the Church).

So to answer the OP’s question, Messiah gave Himself willingly - no one could’ve taken His life from Him. It simply wasn’t possible.

I didn’t say Ghandi necessarily had anything good or bad to say. My point was that by your reasoning - because Ghandi died - his words should be elevated in importance. (ie., I was pointing out the false logic in your statement)

I would propose that what gave Messiah’s words an extra punch (they already had plenty of force just in His speaking them), was His resurrection from the grave.

If you believe in the Resurrection, why did you disagree with what I said about the death of Jesus?
I never said I disagreed with what you said about the death of Jesus. Think of this as rather a clarification of what I think you might be trying to say. As my Greek prof used to say, “The problem is not with the Greek, but with the English.” 🙂 In other words, I may think I know what you’re thinking, but unless I challenge it and dialogue, how can I ever be sure?

The Resurrection shouldn’t be taken separately from the mystery of the Cross,of God’s submission to death in the form of a man,at the hands of men,for the purpose of saving men from death. The Resurrection happened because the Cross happened.

Once again, I have to toss in a comment… of course there could be no resurrection without a crucifixion first. - ie., one cannot be resurrected from “life”
