I like Steampunk in video games, especially BioShock Infinite and even Skyrim (according to Wikipedia, the steam-powered machines made by the dwarves would be considered steampunk). So pardon my ignorance, I’m not that much into the subculture otherwise.

…Anyone like to do steampunk crafting?
Well as I mentioned I have knitted those handwarmers for my friend… I have been wanting to try and make Steampunk jewelry from polymer clay too. 🙂

I have quite a lot of polymer clay in storage, clay tools and pigment powders to give the clay a metallic finish. I just need to knuckle down and use the stuff! I flick through Google for inspiration on so many things. I want to do dressmaking so I can make my own clothes in my own style I like, I wish to knit more and teach myself new stitches etc, I wish to make things out of clay. But I’m too much of a procrastinator  😛

You sound a lot like me. :juggle:

You have ADHD too? 😃
Hehe, well no, I’ve never been diagnosed with that… but I just have soooo many ideas, so little focus/energy to actually put them into practice! I’ve been to psychiatrists and psychologists quite a bit lately, for issues I’ve had at work, they’ve also had to check for things I guess like OCDs or ADHD in case that was the cause of my issue, and none of them have picked up on anything that suggests that.

Well, maybe you’re just a creative person - and like me, are on a lifelong quest for better systems of organization. 👍 I know there’s no perfect system.

That’s probably one thing I like about Steampunk - the idea of being able to have a messy inventors’ laboratory 😃

Uh-huh… I need a room purely to do my “stuff” and store it all. 😃 I went on a bit of a yarn binge this year, it’s cheaper to buy in bulk on eBay and the more I’d find the more ideas would build in my head… so that meant I had to re-organize how I stored it all… and again and again I find myself having to do that. But when it gets stored that’s when I tend to forget or procrastinate pulling everything out because that means I have to tidy up afterwards

Same here. My ideal work room, should I ever be fortunate enough to be able to afford it, would have organized storage shelves, bins, etc. all around the edges, a sink for washing, maybe a curtained area for messy jobs that make dust or fumes,:hammering: and then the big area in the center would be for tables and easel and such. Ah, to dream!:cool:

Sounds great to me! 😃

And I would promise to put things neatly away back in the storage cabinets - at least most of the time! 😛

Seriously, I did a lot of thinking about this, since I’m one who tends to leave a trail of “creative mess” a mile long and covering every available surface. I got to thinking about school and realized how the teachers managed not to have this problem is that the storage areas and work areas were separate. (And nice and roomy as well.)

Whereas I’ve tended to merge mine - not hard to do when you live in a small place and get too many supplies too quickly. :doh2: Working on changing that.

Has anyone taken apart a clock for Steampunk? I did one - it was a former cuckoo clock (insert joke here). It was a good thing it wasn’t a clock with a mainspring, as those beasts can bite, I found out later via a YouTube video! :blackeye::stretcher: The trick is to allow the wound-up spring to unwind before disassembling the clock.
