Who loves anime here?

I jsut don’t want people to think that Koi Kaze is representative of Japanese culture as a whole as the Japanese themselves find incest squicky. They may not have much of a taboo on cousins marrying cousins but you sort aren’t squicked out by it as cousins kissing isn’t as bad as siblings kissing. I don’t advocate of course but I udnerstand why it isn’t so taboo in Japan.

I think I’m going to watch either Darker than Black or Fate/Stay night now. Which one should I choose?

This series, and I haven’t watched it beyond the first 3-4 episodes - lost interest - has very nice character designs and art. But beyond that, I’d agree, that showing incest in a good light is wrong. I don’t think the series has any sex in it though, thankfully.

The whole imouto thing in anime is very big though and occasionally to the point of bordering on immorality. Many anime - such as this one feature some sort of caring for the lead male’s “extremely cute, fragile and precious” (moe) little sister - in some cases the sister develops a brother complex and starts to see her older brother (or cousin) in a romantic light (the tsundere but feel sorry for character in this series is
Sora Takanashi who not only lost her parents but now develops a crush on her cousin who assumes a paternal role - he is now her onii-chan or older brother and she viciously opposes the mildly erotic advances of the only female adult aged character in the series with marked jealousy only a tsundere can possess). In this series at least, the male develops no romantic feelings for his young charges and a real adult female presence makes a welcome counter-balance to the self sacrifice for the 3 “defenseless girls” fantasy this series indulges in for the sake of many anime fans.

I disgaree on the imouto thing in anime being very big in anime. I hear alot of utter rubbish on Tv Tropes by dirty fans (man, I’m need to give up on that stupid website with all its liberal bias, sexual fixation and dumb emphasis on what they pass off as tolerance) thatLelouch and Nunnally share an incestous relationship in Code Geass. I haven’t seen it but I hear there isn’t the slightest hint of incest in it. Why the hell do morons like those filthy bastards have to ruin bloody everything with their dirty heads? Why? I’m sorry but it make me furious that such people even exist. And people wonder why we oppose homosexuality. THIS is the whole reason why, because its not anime that gives off homosexual pairings, its only idiots who imagine such pairings just because they haven’t experienced a relationship other than the one found in wanton sex. Gish, sorry to sound so angry but I hope they don’t breed.
 
Hey guys, what do you think of Full Metal Alchemist? I can honestly say it really is the greatest anime I have ever seen and maybe even the greatest work of fiction of the decade (well, one of the greatest works of fiction of the decade if not ever). I don’t know what to say. Its affected me a lot and its characters are some of the greatest I have ever seen. Its like I’ve known all these characters my entire life they’re so well developed and the story is just beautiful. And no, Brotherhood does not have any antireligiousness to it, nor does it go agaisnt organized religion AT ALL. In fact, the Ishvalan religion is shown in a very positive light. The only bit in FMAB where religion is shown as bad is the bit with Father Cornello who is shown to be a fraud and in the end, the message of FMAB episode 3 wasn’t ‘religion is bad’, it was to not rely on miracles that could never happen, thats it.
 
Well, thanks for inviting me here!! I have always liked looking and sometimes collecting anime graphics. I recently started watching some, Like Shugo Chara, K-On and now Trinity Blood, which makes Catholics look even cooler lol.

I wanted to know If anyone can give me some good recommendations on some Anime to watch. I don’t really have a problem with slight violence, or the language. It’s just hard for me to find some without any, like, “girl on girl” and “dude on dude” action sometimes. I would like some action-y, funny, sweet, innocent ones. I get the nudity when the characters transform, it’s pretty much blurred by the power beams. 😃

Since you mentioned Code Geass and TVTropes, this article tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/BrotherSisterIncest/CodeGeass, along with what I saw from the first season, suggests that Lelouch and Nunnally’s relationship seems to be unhealthy but not incestuous. Apparently some of the picture dramas indicate that other characters seem to think their relationship is questionable, but that’s about it. I find that sort of thing frustrating, too. It oversimplifies complicated feelings and relationships.

I think I should make sure people understand that that last sentence wasn’t intended as an attack on shipping in general or fanfiction. I generally support creative reinterpretations of works. It’s just that a lot of shippers, especially yaoi/yuri fans and incest shippers, seem to be unnecessarily crass about it. I should mention that I don’t like pornographic interpretations of the relationships between the Doctor from Doctor Who and his companions either, heterosexual or otherwise.

I don’t like the liberal bias and perverted environment of a big part of TvTropes either, but you don’t need to wish such things for these folks, better pray for them, I think!

I still think 20th Century Boys is far superior to FMA.

The religion in FMA obviusly is different, since is a parallel world of sorts. The cult of Cornellio, is like a what if exercise about Roman Empire era mysteric cults in a more modern settings. And the Isballans, they have a very Middle Eastern look & feel. Beyond that, the manga hints at some deatils, like the Tetragrammaton in ancient walls, being part of alchemic circles, and in Armstrong gauntlets, if I remember well.

Well, is not only that they are crass about it, the mere nature of their shippings is problematic.

For Maria1993:

Try Nichijou, Kill me Baby, and Uchuu Kyoudai.

Try Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. To call it awesome is an understatement. Also try Elfen Lied. It does contain nuitty although it is enver used for pornographic purposes and yes, it has some rude jokes although they are pretty mild. Also try Rurouni Kenshin. DEFINITELY try FMAB and Higurashi no naku koro ni. As for manga, I really recommend you read 20th Century Boys and the Hayate no Gotoku manga although the only fault I see with Hayate no Gotoku is the excessive amount of fanservice. However, Hayate is still very good DESPITE the fanservice. Did I mention you should really try FMAB? No really, watch it as it truly si the greatest anime ever made.

Also CesarAugustus, I disagree with 20th Century Boys being superior to FMAB. Both are flawless and whatever flaws they have are so small that you jsut overlook them. I mean, how could a handful of guys in 20CB storm a castlen which somehow has the worst security system in the world in order to confront the guy who killed the fiancee of Kenji’s sister? How could Fuhrer Bradlet chase a tank and destroy its missles with nothing but a sword? Both are awesome moments but they come off as the most unbelievable parts of both works respectively. And unlike 20CB which I greatly, greatly enjoyed, FMAB actually made me cry and distubed me intensely.

In the end though, I think neither 20th Century Boys or FullMetal Alchemist brotherhood are superior or inferior to one another (although both are the greatest manga and anime ever made respectively) because both did their own thing and together with Don Quixote, Song of Ice and Fire, Watchmen, etc… are amongst the greatest works of fiction ever made. On the subject of greatest works of fiction, are there any video game enthusiasts here? I myself don’t play video games and I don’t even own any game console except for a PS1 I got as a kid but I like watching playthroughs for the story and I was wondering, what in your opinions are the video games with the greatest story? In my opinion, the Elder Scrolls, Silent Hill and Alan Wake games are amongst the best. I also rather admire the Assassins Creed games for their uniqueness and originality.
 
I don’t see tehm as equals, yes FMA is a great work. But well, maybe is matter of tastes.

If I can watch FMA and then switch it to FMAB at the point where things start to really diverge I’d be happy.

Some proponents of the belief that the first series was superior claim that it nails certain dramatic moments better than the second. After watching this video:

I can’t argue against that sentiment. But I prefer the Brotherhood ending.
 
Does anyone know if Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka is any good? It sounds kind of funny, but it might turn out to be a little too fanservice-y.

Also, Darker than Black seems all right, but I’ve only watched a few episodes. It’s rated TV-MA, though, and it doesn’t shy away from violence. However, it’s not as violent as what I’ve seen from Elfen Lied, which I decided I probably wasn’t going to like after the first seven or so minutes.

I can’t really say much about Fullmetal Alchemist or Fate/Stay Night, though.

Kore wa Zombie has fanservice, but it’s not overbearing in that area. Decent plot and fun characters.

Rinne no Lagrange Season 1 and 2 are good. There is little fanservice unless an anime girl in a bathing suit is fanservice. It’s a good show featuring the typical clumsy yet determined concerned girl trying to unite two waring factions each represented by a girl with her own temperament. There are also giant robots but that really is stupid. Who watches these shows for robots anyway. It’s a very sweet show with no erotic elements.

Oh and yes - Dantalian no Shoka - if you like tsundere princesses like Victorique de Blois (Gosick), Shinku (Rozen Maiden), Hazuki (Moon Phase), Louise (Zero no Tsukaima), Taiga (Toradora), Shana (Shakugan no Shana) and Nagi (Hayate the Combat Butler). Dalian is the Black Biblioprincess in the story and the interaction between her and the lead male character - an idealised English gentleman (as only the Japanese manga artists can imagine) is hilarious. No porn here unless one has a fetish for goth loli outfits.

In one episode the guy (not worthwhile to remember his name) crosses himself and says a prayer when two people die. Dalian replies with an “amen”.

First of all, that review SPOILS TOO MUCH. Don’t see it if you haven’t finished FMAB. I disagree with everyone who says that FMAB felt rushed in its early episodes. I knew everything about the ditzy character who dies in episode 10 of FMAB yet when he died, I was utterly shocked and sad as he recieved tons of character even in ten episodes. Fans of the original series may be dissapointed that other characters like Shou Tucker don’t get character development; in the 2003 anime, he becoems something like an atoner whilst in the manga, he is a complete utter monster who recieves a karmic death. Personally, I recommend you see Brotherhood first rather than the 2003 anime as in it, you will achieve all of the Full Metal Alchemsit experience, the true one. The only scenes in the manga that it left out were the train hijacking which I felt was nothing but filler to be honest so it didn’t cut from the experiencem, and the HILARIOUS mining town incident. Its true that it is recalled later on but still, an episode like that would have been great. I don’t count this as a flaw because FMAB just on its own is more than enough to experience a great story. The early episodes were rather episodic so Cowboy Bebop, take note.

Man I love this anime. The more I think about it, the better I love it. Oh my gosh, is it recommended. Unlike the 2003 anime which I ehar does rant agaisnt religion a lot, FMAB actually shows respect to religion even if said religion isn’t an expy of the Catholic religion. Gosh, do I love this anime. Warning though: it is very, very violent, even more than Elfen Lied.

FullMetal Alchemist has virtually no fanservice except for one or two instances involving Riza Hawkeye and Winry (don’t worry, the Riza one is made for art, not fanservice). Lust doesn’t count ebcasue, well, she’s Lust. She’s supposed to be the Vamp.

Fanservice or not, FMA fails because it has no tsundere characters. 😉

I mean you won’t find a line such as this one, ne:

"Just because I’m turning red at your sight doesn’t mean I have any feelings for you. You’re a vile, useless, perverted dog and you should listen to your master. "

Ah yes, that’s the type of thing which gets an anime going.

No tsudnerer characers? Hlelo, Winry Rockbell? Edward Elric himself? Not only that but tsundere characters are what keep anime going? Thats so false because anime need good stories not tsunderes to keep you watching.

Speaking about tsunderes, my dad when he was yougner and a bit of a flirt used to be a waiter. I once talked to him about tsudnere cafes, a type of cafe where the waitresses are at first rude to the customer but gradually warm up to them and become sweeter. He said thats how he treated female customers and guess what? It actually worked:D.
