No, I watched it in Japanese/english subtitles on this website: nwanime.com/3/Naruto-Shippuden/. Its a pity there aren’t many anime out there I can watch in english but I really don’t mind, the website was a lifesaver!

I’ve been watching the modern retelling Space Battleship Yamato 2199. They’ve been releasing i think 2 episodes every month and 6 episodes have been released currently.Has anyone heard of “Space Battleship Yamato”?
I might try to find the original series and watch it if i get impatient enough waiting for the newer version episodes to be released.
If you’re american, they were showing it on syfy a year ago. It’s also funimation licensed if you’re particular about how you want to view it.

Actually, some anime I think is better in the original Japanese with only subtitles. (Action is not a genre where this works very well – too much going on to focus on reading text. I preferred NGE when it was dubbed.)

. ANyway, I prefer Evangleion dubbed and I wish I could have seen FMAB dubbed but alas, I couldn’t find it dubbed in high quality, only subbed. Oh well. If I can view a show with an english dub that is excellent or at least passable, I view it. I tried watching Higurashi dubbed but man, was the dub atrocious, especially Satoshi’s voice. I liked the Rurouni Kenshin dub although it was a bit dodgy at first like that of Evangelion but ti was OK. Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note, Evangelion, Elfen Lied, FMAB and Cowboy Bebop all have excellent dubs.Currently am going to watch Another and Bakemonogatari

My review of NGE and EoE
Going into this series I was a bit daunted thinking that this series would be as complicated with it’s philosophy like Ergo Proxy.I started watching it and it definitely wasn’t as complicated as I thought it would be.One thing I picked up in the first 5 episodes is the theme of child soldiers which I didn’t think would b such a big thing as it ultimately turned out 2b.I thought that the focus would b on the whole “ancient and powerful aliens seeding life across planets” like in* Prometheus* but it turned out 2b about something much more in tune with human nature.
All the distresses of these characters and what they’ve been and go thru are really despondent.I really feel for these guys
.They all basically have big issues with how receptible they are to being loved,getting close to ppl and reciprocating love all for various personal reasons.I mean snikeys man!.Shinji doesn’t even seem to have a problem with non-heterosexual overtones of being loved by Kowaru (who wasn’t even human for goodness sake!) b/c it was one of the nicest displays of affection anyone’s ever had for him!.Dang!,there something going there if he’s like that desperate for affection and doesn’t mind going beyond his current orientation for it!.No offense to any non-heterosexual ppl reading this out there though.
I watched episodes 2-5 after having watched the 1st Rebuild movie (I’m just interested in the original NGE and EoE now though) and thought it was going somewhere.Left me coming back for more.The thematic air of things simmered down with Asuka’s appearance and things didn’t seem so bad for everyone.Until like episode 15 when Shinji is like absorbed into the inter-dimension of that one Angel and is deemed expendable by Gendo or the flashback episodes before then.That’s when things got suspenseful enuff 2 start making me marathon thru the rest of the show.
I was quesingly weirded out with episode 21 though. I find out how the oldster Kozo knew about the under the table stuff Gendo (Shinji’s dad) was doing and how Ritsuko’s (the blond scientist lady) mom,Naoka was happy that Yui (Shinji’s mom) got killed in the “accident” and started hitting on Gendo soon after. Then they switch over to Rei as a little girl which makes me think at first if "*Naoka+Gendo=Rei then Rei=Shinji’s half-sister? *D: " which just makes that accidental groping way before all the more uncomfortable very early one in the show.Then I think “wait,that doesn’t make sense since Rei’s also Shinji’s age…unless Gendo was having an affair with Naoko like way before”.Compelled for answers in this disturbing reveal I looked up how Rei was made from the “salvaged remains” of Shinji’s mom and is a clone of Yui…
DX ಠ_ಠ …My point being the incesstous undertones in both what I thought was going on and what the truth is messed up and it unfortunately it would’nt b the last. To add Gendo’s insidiuousness the next episode I find out that he was sleeping with Ritsuko’s mom.
The incestuous stuff with the Oedipius and Elektra complex’es is just a bit to predictable though:ehh:.You know there are certain tropes that are used b/c they seem thought-provoking like can AI develop human like minds,do clones have souls,how human can animals get to be equal,what is our mind really,will technology be the end of us,are corporations taking over etc that are starting to feel old hat for me and this is one of them.
Freudian motifs is one of them.In modern psychology it’s the equivalent to what 1980’s BASIC programming is to todays computers.It’s practically obsolete,ignores a lot of the biological reasons for stuff but makes for more interesting stories then the apparently complicated let-downs of something tangible and technical like the brain’s biochemistry and how with ppl with issues it’s sort of jumpy.
Maybe one day I’ll find something interesting that uses modern psychology instead of the predictable yet very dated Fruedian stuff esp.with the Oedipius and Elektra complexes which makes things so pretentiously weirded out though.

With the last two episodes and episode 15 the flashback episodes I watched with one version of the latino dub where there’s a narrator translating the Japanese writing (which mostly are like questions being asked to the characters and comments made to them like “you killed him” in response to a part where Shinji’s feeling guilty).It helps take away the crypticness that’s already there.
In the end as far as the actual show flows it’s not very complicated although I’m sure it gets more complicated with layers if you look into the backgrounds of the inspirations though.But doing that only makes it more complex out of my own desire to make it more complex (similar to how I felt about the first FMA anime years ago),which I clearly dont have to choose to do so.It is a bit cheap how the last two episodes are mostly flashbacks and the last one actually uses like production drawings (which actually works and isn’t so bad).Personally I liked seeing a “goofy sounding” Rei who’s actually happy.I thought though that the last few episodes would be more confusing but it’s not really complicated but just psychological vignettes with commentary and questions interspersed by a narrator in btw.
The last episode though has solipist like undertones that I kind of saw coming from Shinji but the alternate realities presented does seem pretty contrived in the face of what went on in the past few episodes.Hence the need for having EoE made I guess.The last few moments are so morally didactic that it was was like (I don’t mean to be flippant to anyone who is endeared with the franchise) Shinji was in the psychological equivalent of an Alcoholics anonymous circle esp.with that clapping and Pen-pen’s congrats .No offense (again) to anyone who’s been in such a thing.I meant I like the happy ending despite it being forced but it’s just so hilarious as well!.
When I was planning to watch “The end of evangelion” .a.k.a. “How episodes 25 & 26 were meant to legitamatelly be” I was wondering if it’s honestly as trippy as they say it is.I was guessing that the focus will be on the angels and not the distresses of the characters.I mean I get enough of the whole “agents of ancient astronauts seeding life across planets” from Prometheus which is more one-sided b/c it focuses on the aliens and not personal issues of ppl.
Now when I finished watched EoE I felt sorry 4 how a lot of Nerv staff got killed.Shinji could should:doh2: have gotten out of his stupor easier seeing how he was used to piloting the EVA by then and he could go do his thing knowing it would prob.be his last battle for whatever reason (definately could have spared Asuka’s EVA it’s macrabe fate).The sexual stuff with Shinji happening here is pretty screwed up here as well.While watching I was thinking “(
However I didn’t really intend to intrepret the ending to much.Maybe one day when I feel more up to it I will.All the Rei faced angels,orange ppl goop and the big glowing Rei I think are just flashy ways to show the turning point before humans apparently go trancendent.I kept on thinking about the “star babies”,Monoliths and the energy being aliens in Arthur C.Clarke’s “Space oddessy” series and how the aliens (“first ancestral race”) in this show are prob./hopefully (given all the wacko stuff here) not as hostile as the Engineers in the *Prometheus *series.Good grief it would b even more terrifying if they were :bigyikes:.
The stuff with the live action footage around the ends reminds me of (not to be flippant and as much as I detest Seth MacFarlane’s stuff) the *Family guy *moment when Peter says how things got too real when he did drugs and they showed the Peter costume on a park bench and early 90’s Animal-man Morrison style metafictional 4th wall breaking.
However MY CONDOLENCES to what end up happening to all the main characters in EoE notably Misato who was for the most part consistently the cheerful lively one.By the end of the movie I was just like “:imsorry:…tragic”.

Thus I feel that if anyone feels like getting into the advanced aliens involved with human origins thing this will fill the niche for that in an psychological ppl related anime way.I’ve read on this thread somewhere that when someone here watched it’s ago it contributed to their depression.That actually happened to me with the 2k3 FMA anime but I can that if I had watched this in my younger and more impressionable days that could have happened to me as well.So I guess try not to take that aspect to seriously if you think you are in a mentally a/o spiritually precarious state.
I wonder though…

Hs anybody seen Kore wa zombie desu ka? Does it stay as violent as the first episode? The idea of a story centering on a zombie seems interesting, but the stuff from the first episode goes beyond slapstick. It’s too bad, and it reminds me of my general confusion over what constitutes gratuitous violence. I hope you’ll pardon me for sounding like a broken record; I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread.
