Try looking at things that aren’t mainstream, American aired seinen and shonen. Red Garden looks a lot different than Code Geass looks a lot different than Angel Sanctuary looks a lot different than Ceres.Sorry but I hate anime as well as manga. Actually I don’t really like any Japanese animation or cartoons. I just think they’re very ugly and bizarre even for cartoons. They just look freaky to me. I like a certain aesthetic quality to animation and anime is just very harsh looking. However, I like art and animation and try to keep an open mind so if you guys want to explain why you like it so much I am willing to listen.

Well I share the same views as you except it’s on western animation. I dislike the heavy lack of proportion of many western characters.Sorry but I hate anime as well as manga. Some pokemon,Yu Gi Oh, Fantastic Four: worlds greatest heroes and I’m not sure what the other stuff was. I guess it’s just the style I am not too fond of. The humongous eyes, tiny triangular noses and long,sharp unruly hair. I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade but I just haven’t grasped the appeal of that sort of thing. Care to try to explain it to me?
Hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Oh yeah I really don’t like those popular adult cartoons or even the kid ones for that matter. But there are a few shows I really liked the art style.Are you familiar with the Ultimate Avengers movies or The Batman tv show? The art and animation was very fluid and to me, appealing. As for plot, I rarely watch cartoons for the plot, but Batman the animated series and Wolverine and the X-men had some of the most interesting plot lines and stories I have seen. I am however, not very familiar with the entire Anime genre. If you want to suggest some good ones I might look into them.It’s just the art style that sort of bugs me, that’s all.
Some anime with interesting, unique art styles and animation are Kemonozume, Kaiba, and Dead Leaves. But the anime with the most fluid animation tend to be films, due to higher budgets. For shows it can vary widely even within a single show. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex had some very well animated action sequences, but when the scene was just dialogue there was nothing animated except for the characters’ mouths. And that could go on for so long that it felt a little creepy how static everyone was.
Litchi DE Hikari Club sounds fresh, but possibly too disturbing for my tastes. BTOOOM! is by Madhouse, so it could be good. Same with PSYCHO-PASS by Production I.G. The Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica movies and the Ashura movie are the only other ones that look interesting. The rest, I’ll wait and hear others’ opinions first.
In terms of story, superheroes are just a little bit better. Alas, they’re also rife with the same plot inconsistencies as their comic book counterparts. :\

As a girl, let me explain:I guess the biggest beef I have with this style of art is the depiction of the men. I have yet to see any guy who isn’t really feminine looking. They are all so skinny with long-ish hair and their noses are almost nonexistent. Sometimes I can’t tell whether I am looking at a male or female character. Why do they make them so wimpy looking? The girls I don’t have such a big problem with.

Fair enough I guess, but the majority of the fans I have seen seem to be guys. As for the masculine characters I think it’s just a matter of taste. I have seen way too much fangirl hype than I care to remember over Chris Hemsworth and his brother and they are both big tough looking dudes.To each his( or her )own.

I’m actually fond of the bishounen style but they are certainly NOT the only way guys in anime are drawn. And as Juney said, these are usually targeted towards girls. Like I said; it’s primarily a Japanese asthetic, considering they’re Japanese cartoons. But considering most of the fans I know are girls who read girls series, I can attest that there is some truth to this stateside
