He has a whole history (and lifetime) behind him as the Hitokiri Battōsai" (人斬り抜刀斎), so I think this is one instance where it is fine to have the main character in an action anime, the strongest from the start (episode 1). I’m sure there are other main characters besides Kenshin as well.
My thoughts exactly. The first time I heard it, it was from a friend who tends to frequent the 4chan side of the internet. By far, this has got to be the most off-base thing I’ve heard from the anti-mainstream crowd. His exact words were: “Can do no wrong.”

I haven’t seen swordart online yet but I agree, a character doesn’t have to be so hopelessly flawed or weak for him to be deep. Kenshin is a great example of this and so are many American superheroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America and may I say Spiderman. Pre-One More Day, he has flaws and moments of weakness but he always ends up saving the day in the end, is always upbeat and all the kids and populace love him no matter what JJ puts him out as. I said pre-One More Day (grabs a copy of said book and throws it off a bridge).That’s exactly what I like about him. He’s not perfect but he’s no hopeless wuss either. But it was very obvious since the first three episodes. This shows lacks love triangles, and similar conflicts. But anyway, I reported the post.
This series is quite simple. Is a romantic comedy but without harem or love triangles. In the first three episodes you already could know who are the characters forming the main couple. Now, couple B is really unexpected.Just my 2 cents.
I’m not sure what kind of a series Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai is, but if it’s like a romantic drama or something, it’s a big time spoiler when you give away the episode number in which 1 or both characters “confess” their love, lol. The suspense is what makes that particular genre gripping and on the edge of one’s seat. It’s not quite the same when you already know when to expect the big moment of a “love confession” to happen. I just recently watched Kimi ni Todoke - From Me to You, a romantic comedy/drama, and believe me, it was one of the most suspenseful ones I’ve seen in a while, but the suspense is generally what makes the romantic comedy/drama/etc. genre pretty awesome in my humble opinion.

Seeing as how he was in the same anime era as Goku, Ash Ketchum, and other shounen heroes, I actually think he was AHEAD of his time. XD
To be honest, unlike Dragonball and Pokemon, the latter which is jsut a fad and the former which is still considered good and classic, Kenshin actually aged very well into the modern era. A lot of the tropes and morals found in it have had a lot of impact on other anime. I don’t think FullMetal Alchemist would even be half as deep as it is without Rurouni Kenshin as it’s influence with it’s heroic characters definitely is there. How many anime are there todays that take place in the period of the Samurai like Sword of the Stranger?

I’m avoiding it then! Sorry but I can and do immensely enjoy the sometimes over the top displays of martial arts like those found in Kenshin and Kenichi (manga!) but really, tennis? There’s suspension of disbelief but I don’t think I can stand seeing such a series then seeing as its way too unrealistic. I respect your opinion though.
Honestly, when analyzed the plot of Evangelion doesn’t really make much sense and yeah, it can be pretentious. It’s still great and influential though.
