“There’s no such thing as the perfect president.”

Me and my family were disillusioned with the fact that given the fact the Congress, the Senate, The Supreme Court and the military, et al, is the REAL power behind The White House, why bother with a president? What’s the the point of having one? Just give whatever functions s/he does to another group of people and phase out the presidency altogether, and arrange it so that America is run by a lot of people (especially corrupt people at that) instead of one person. Wth the way the goverment is, the presidency is now looking like a Hirohito (Japan’s late emperor) factor, that is to say, using the prez only for a symbolic figurehead purpose, while the real forces at work run the nation. Also, with the likes of Nixon and Clinton, why bother trying to elect the perfect prez? S/he don’t exist @ all. Sooner or later, the American people will get tired of the hype and demand, “No more presidents!! We want groups of people to run America!!” Such a thought makes me shudder.

For one thing, the office of president is spelled out in the constitution. For another, when something needs to be done quickly (9/11 for example), somebody has to be around to make quick decisions. Ever see congress or the supreme court get in a hurry about anything?

Yes, but the gradual concentration of power in the president is something outside of the framer’s intentions, and should give rise to concern for both conservative and liberals. The executive branch has steadily become far less balanced with far fewer checks.

Really? I thought the judicial was the branch to be concerned about.

In ANY organization schools, an Army or a Gov’t there has to be one person who can give orders that are not conflicting so all will know what to do.

If you have 3 or 4 “bosses” how will you know who to obey - will cause confusion.

Does the Roman Catholic Church have one man who is resposible and can give orders? Yes. He is called the Holy Father or the Pope.

Think how much confusion in a family of children there is when the Mom and the Pop give conflicting orders. That is a terrible situation. We need ONE President. If you disagree then go somewhere where there are multiple Presidents and give me a call in several years.

It’s a misconception I’ve noted around this board 🙂

Why do you call it a misconception? The courts have usurped the power of congress to make laws by their grotesque interpretations and have made a mockery of the constitution. Please give specifics as to the concentration of power in the executive branch.

Yeah…I don’t see it as really becoming such…on the other hand, the judiciary is out of control with activist crusader judges totally ignoring the constitution…illegally legislating from the bench…and trying impose their personal beliefs on the public instead of following the constitution and the will of the people…I don’t see how a Judge can overturn something such as a state ban on same-sex marriage, when an overwhelming 70-75% of the citizens of that state voted to outlaw it. Also…look at the Terri Schiavo case…These guys and gals are a bunch of cowboys who have pretty much flushed the constitution down the toilet and do whatever they want, whenever they want…they need to be put in check, and I don’t mean tomorrow.

Wouldn’t hurt. Besides, given the facts that the courts have usurped the power of congress to make laws by their grotesque interpretations and have made a mockery of the constitution., along with another fact that the executive branch has steadily become far less balanced with far fewer checks, it’s no wonder the goverment’s so fouled up–and getting worse. Also, if you ask me, the constitution should’ve been rewritten eons ago, so the pundits say.
