Hologram transmission of jim morrisson as a a chamelion, more beautiful than anything in art, didn’t say who he was, bad light refraction unprepared for transmission, not warm not cold, still technically want to be his friend! (Ideas for science fiction story I mean)
Referred to this as “taking off his bandages”
(then I became convinced I was meant to eat him, which was probably just wont)
downloaded a zillion terrabytes in 3 seconds. The picture file of “another” had all the same qualities as jesus, just the head and shoulders, and without a sunshine filter. I started the decades long process of converting to blu-ray. My computer can only maintain a 10th of a second at maximum ram use. Needs to be connected to a computer with 5 or 6 times rapid access memory, and sunshine filter to make printable image of Jesus.
(I tagged together some quick google image search results on my fb album facebook.com/jerry.namesertag )

morrison really taunts him here rock.genius.com/The-doors-the-end-lyrics#note-91698

Some posts state the devil made the choice to be “evil”
It was like an airplane crash, the transition seemed logical and serene.

To me the quote comes off sounding dumb, humans cant go around popping things into existence the very notion violates the conservation of mass, matter can neither be created nor destroyed. The devil created by God I cant see saying something so silly, hence if it was stated as a challenge to humans to follow gods teachings, it would make sense as an instrument of god? Its in the Angel DNA to act with God’s will Id imagine? Perhaps these phrases are misinterpreted?
It indeed is silly. We are not God. There is no way we can be transformed into God. It was a Lie, and our first parents believed it. They wanted to be like God so badly, that they believed whatever Satan said! Instead of trusting and loving God we wanted to challenge him. That was the first Sin, and every time we think we know better than God, we sin in the same way.

The idea of ‘being like God’ isn’t just “popping things into existence” as you said. Instead, think of ‘being like God’ to mean ‘Being able to decide what is good and evil for myself, and answering to no one’. That was what we as a humans have been tempted with from the beginning.

The phrases are not misinterpreted. It is in our roll as Catholic Laity to trust in the sole authority of the Church to interpret scripture, just as it was Adam and Eve’s duty to trust in God. Where our first parents failed, I hope we can succeed.

Peace

Thanks for replying, the thought of “free will” was exactly what was on my mind when ending the last post. Some posts state the devil made the choice to be “evil” in an instant knowing everything that would happen is how the devil arrived at that conclusion. If that were true that everything was set in stone, then the angels would have had no free will to make a decision, nor would God have free will, or humans for that matter I was thinking? Based upon my thoughts about the devils choice based upon posts Ive read and parts of the catechism I understand so far, it seems like the angels may have seen the world as it would be with no intervention possibly, the devil seeing this was displeased so struck out to enforce Gods will as the instrument of god they were created to be? not being in Gods light is their sacrifice to push mankind towards the path of salvation possibly in order to grow closer to God?
God is love.
**Love creates **by nature.
**God creates **angels and humans.
In order for God’s creation to love him in return, his creation must have free will. If God did not create angels and humans with free will, then we are not free to love.
So, the simple summary is…
If God is love, we must have free will. If you deny that humans and angels have free will, you also indirectly deny that God is love (and that is not a possibility).
Love without free will is analogous to rape.
God cannot force himself on anyone, by his nature.

Satan could not know “everything that would happen” because he is not God. 🤷
He simply chooses to walk away from God. To choose against God separates us from him.
But God can bring good out of evil, according to his will.
Too much to learn in a blog session, but I am unsure there is any place in the real world I could broach such questions. I could head over to a church one near me has a monk, he is so friendly, but I dont want to eat up their time when I know they have lots of stuff to do. Maybe I should walk over there and bug someone about it see if they can point me in the right direction?
Go to your local parish and get involved. There will hopefully be many educational opportunities there. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Thanks for the replies, these thoughtful responses help move my thoughts along on the subject of the devil being evil or an instrument of God. I find it hard to imagine that God could create something that would go “evil”, that would mean God is imperfect? From an engineering standpoint if someone made a toaster that had a chance of exploding 40% of the time that would be a bad engineer in other words.

Lucifer we understand was kicked out by Archangel Michael, what if it was more he was sent down by Archangel Michael to fulfill certain duties and responsibilities? Can there be other interpretations of the events I guess is my question. What we teach about him being cast down I get and always understood, but thinking about ti more I wonder if maybe the devil was acting under orders or something? or Perhaps this all took place within the angelic orders outside of Gods influence? As in the angelic orders had a clash of views of how to bring humans to God and the losing team was kicked out? Maybe we got a simpler explanation because its simple which would make sense since humans lack the mental faculties to understand what happened?

Hmmmm I know what we as Catholic’s believe about “original sin” from the garden and all that. But I feel the original sin should be free will, the choice to have faith or not? that of course just an opinion but it kinda feels right? Does our catechism change? Catholicism is very scholarly I would imagine it does as new evidence is presented say earlier translations or individuals who spend years contemplating many biblical mysteries present their findings on things? Def trust in the church in the interpretation of scripture, I get dizzy just reading it, I do enjoy discussing this idea, maybe others in the church are as well but I have no idea. Hmm did Adam and Eve fail, I dunno, we wouldnt be here without them so Id say its a success? The inherent free will is the failure perhaps?
Satan could not know “everything that would happen” because he is not God. 🤷
I thought from reading an earlier post that God gave them that power for that moment or at least the power to see where events would lead possibly without the interaction of angels/demons since they did not exist yet?
He simply chooses to walk away from God. To choose against God separates us from him.

I always thought God was kinda neutral neither good nor bad, though we say God is good I thought that was always more of a way of saying the path is righteous. The whole God is love thing I thought was more of an evangelical thing? I was unaware we attached emotional states to God is that wrong?
Go to your local parish and get involved. There will hopefully be many educational opportunities there. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
I almost did today, but will tomorrow, going to the BIG one near me. Someone should be around to lend an ear at least as to this idea of the devil being an instrument of god.

I don’t know if you are a parent, or a married person, but let me try an analogy.

When you marry a person, you make a covenant commitment with another person. A covenant is more than a contract. At the time you “create” that commitment, you have full knowledge that you will be rejected in some way. The language of marriage even reflects this idea: “for better or worse”. Why would anyone “create”, or enter into, a covenant relationship that is fore-known to be imperfect? It the marriage were just a contract it would be null and void with the first “no” that a spouse utters. A covenant endures and calls us to perfection of love.

Christianity proposes this seeming foolishness for us to believe:
The evidence of God’s perfection is his love of the imperfect.
He is omniscient and knows all our faults, yet his decision to love completely is evidence of his perfect love. He allows us free will, and risks being rejected (crucified). Why would someone who is perfect allow the imperfect to exist, and with the freedom to reject him? Because that’s what love does.
I always thought God was kinda neutral neither good nor bad, though we say God is good I thought that was always more of a way of saying the path is righteous. The whole God is love thing I thought was more of an evangelical thing? I was unaware we attached emotional states to God is that wrong?

We are not speaking of emotion when we say that God is love. God’s love is in the mystery of his will.
51 "It pleased God, in his goodness and wisdom, to reveal himself and to make known the mystery of his will. His will was that men should have access to the Father, through Christ, the Word made flesh, in the Holy Spirit, and thus become sharers in the divine nature."2
52 God, who “dwells in unapproachable light”, wants to communicate his own divine life to the men he freely created, in order to adopt them as his sons in his only-begotten Son.3 By revealing himself God wishes to make them capable of responding to him, and of knowing him and of loving him far beyond their own natural capacity.
In the mystery of his will, he pours himself out (reveals himself) to us. God’s love is not a feeling, it is a freely created and freely chosen relationship.

Thanks for the previous response I am still contemplating so will reply later, their very thought provoking posts which is helpful.

One thought I was pondering about today was returning to my question of how the devil is evil.
  1. From our understanding the devil was kicked out before genesis and cast into darkness. This is odd to me and makes no sense, because later in the book of Job its recorded the devil working with God, who knows how many other times un recorded but it is recorded so he couldnt have been in that much darkness?
(I try to reconstruct this in my head like a timeline in a court case, where things arent matching up or it appears I am missing information so seeking to fill in those gaps, thanks for anyone who can lend a hand.)
  2. I cant seem to find evidence of the devil being “evil”, I mean to me evil is really really bad. So if he was evil why tell eve to eat an apple? Why not tell her to get a stick and hit Adam in the head? This to me returns to the point of Adam and Eve kinda being lazy in the garden, not being human which was their intended purpose. The devil being a servant of God forced them to take part in the experience they were created for by God thus acting as an instrument of God working to help fulfill Gods will?

Just an observation…
The Christian Gospel calls us to faith, hope, and love. Don’t be searching to hard for the devil’s world, cause it surely will find you if you look hard enough.
Set your search on Christ and these questions will begin to make sense, or rather will cease to be questions worth pursuing.

Because he is the deceiver.
Exhorting someone to do the obvious wrong is not as effective as deceiving them. Instead of exhorting them to do an obvious evil action, he turns them away from the relationship with God. He contradicts what God says, and by doing so he calls into question God’s love and provision for them. In effect, Satan calls God a liar.

The Church characterizes Lucifer’s response to God as “non-serviam, I will not serve you”.
Since God is an outpouring of love, refusing to serve God is to live without love.
Refusing to live without love is death. Satan is not a servant of God.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen…

^^This.

I understand your curiosity about these things. I’d urge you to be very careful, though.

The basics have been covered: Lucifer was an angel, a created being, created to serve God as all of creation is. He and other angels rejected God’s love and goodness, had pride, and were sent/left from God’s presence. They chose to do things their own way rather than God’s - an act that is sin, for us and them. They are now called devils or demons, and Lucifer is called Satan, the Devil, or the Evil One. They despise God and all of God’s ways, and they want humans to do the same (ever heard the saying, “Misery loves company”?). So they actively work to deceive, lie, and encourage people to forsake God’s ways. They have been doing this since the beginning, with Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve’s sin was that they disobeyed God; God had said “Don’t eat this fruit,” and they did. Satan tempted them to do it, but they DID it, which means they were wrong, too. So sin came to the humans. Satan continues to try to convince us to do things the opposite of God’s way; the Church says he “seeks the ruin of souls.” But he, like all of creation, is subject to God and isn’t equal with God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. At the end of time, he and the demons will be judged (as will humans), and the demons and Devil will be sent to hell for eternity with humans who rejected God; hell is the absence of God’s presence. The big difference is that we humans can repent, seek forgiveness through Confession, and be cleansed of our sin because of what Jesus did on the Cross.

The rest of it - whether Satan has access to heaven (Job seems to say yes, but Satan is evil and evil cannot be in God’s holy presence), what exactly he did before he left heaven, how much if anything he knew of the future and God’s plan, how and when the angels were given a choice to obey and love God or not, etc…outside of what Scripture tells us and what the Catechism explains, a lot of this we just don’t know for sure. And it’s not given to us to know…it’s not really our business, KWIM? 🙂 I understand your curiosity, and you’re not the first nor the last to wonder about these things. But it’s better to spend your energy on understanding who God is and what He expects of us than trying to understand who the Devil is. Too much trying to understand the Evil One can lead to an unhealthy fascination with his world - and you certainly don’t want that. Besides, the wonder and goodness of God; the saving, history-changing death of Jesus on the Cross; the power, majesty, and beauty of the Eucharist and the Mass; the rich history of the Church and her Saints; Mary’s Fiat and her role in the Church; the hope of heaven - all of these things are much better to study, meditate on, and delve into than the Devil and his world. If you’re interested in learning about the angels - and that is a good thing to study - you might check out this book by Scott Hahn.

  1. This to me returns to the point of Adam and Eve kinda being lazy in the garden, not being human which was their intended purpose.
You keep returning to this point of Adam and Eve being Lazy. Why is it that you think this? The bible doesn’t really go into what their day to day activities were, so how do you know that they were ‘not being human’?

Thanks for all the replies, been thinking about the theory of the devil being an Instrument of God and wanted to provide insightful feedback so have read each post and considered them greatly the last few days, or week, whatever its been until I felt ready to respond.
The Christian Gospel calls us to faith, hope, and love. Don’t be searching to hard for the devil’s world, cause it surely will find you if you look hard enough.
Not really searching for the devil, no worries. Dont own a Ouija board so safe there. Since Im not considering him being good or evil its more about the role and purpose of the entity itself in reference to biblical literature.
Exhorting someone to do the obvious wrong is not as effective as deceiving them. Instead of exhorting them to do an obvious evil action, he turns them away from the relationship with God. He contradicts what God says, and by doing so he calls into question God’s love and provision for them. In effect, Satan calls God a liar.
this meshes with my theory if you are referring to when the devil challenged Jesus to be the messiah in such that he is acting as a system of checks and balances as his angelic genetics so to speak require him to do, insuring it is not a false messiah. God never said dont go test Jesus and then the devil did it anyway, not in those terms. In that case the devil didnt choose to ignore or not listen to God, moreso it seems as a tool the essence of his role was to fulfill that task which overrides his ability to understand any reason being that the devil is an entity created by God for some specific, elevated purpose like all Angels who were created by God and those above them.
He and other angels rejected God’s love and goodness, had pride, and were sent/left from God’s presence. They chose to do things their own way rather than God’s - an act that is sin, for us and them.
I think due to the lack of subject matter from what I am researching, please feel free to point me in the right direction, I think this point that the devil flat out rejected God, is something that is in the realm of stuff we cant understand as humans, because that isnt flat out written anywhere to cite that the devil said he rejected God or that God acknowledges the resignation or rejection of the devil…
Adam and Eve’s sin was that they disobeyed God; God had said “Don’t eat this fruit,” and they did. Satan tempted them to do it, but they DID it, which means they were wrong, too.
This might go the point for me of is the devil is an instrument of God. Adam and Eve would still be in that place if they didnt eat that apple content to stay there doing nothing, this I resign myself to thinking that maybe we dont know what all completely happened. Maybe those humans just got the message wrong about not eating the fruit or didnt understand it all being that their human. That leads into a whole diff discussion on the nature of original sin, which I feel either way fits into the dogmatic teachings that humans have free will which could be construed as that original sin to choose to live in Gods light or the dark, like in the garden sit there and do nothing but be lazy, or go out and be human.
This seems to be the direction I am leaning now, that its unknowable in many aspects, which leaves it open to discussion but without supporting material one way or the other its just unknowable.
You keep returning to this point of Adam and Eve being Lazy. Why is it that you think this? The bible doesn’t really go into what their day to day activities were, so how do you know that they were ‘not being human’?
Mostly because they werent doing what humans do, creating poetry, building cars, having sex. Calculating their contribution to society while in the garden isnt possible because there is nothing they did to contribute since there also wasnt a society, which is why I feel the devil lit the fire under them as people say to go be human and not just be lazy, that is where my idea for them misinterpreting the whole dont eat fruit thing or our understanding of it.

Recently while thinking on this issue I hit a brick wall with our Catholic teachings is we do have exorcists. I spent some time looking into people who were “possessed”, just a little bit of research but the symptoms are the same no matter if its today or a thousand years ago it seems. I didnt go into detail but it seems the same. None of that seems good, so that throws the whole instrument of God idea out the window unless I could think of a way to explain it as not being bad. Which of course possession is bad, it surely would inhibit someones care of their family, or a job, or any other aspect of being human and seems to offer no benefit to the individual that I can find. While the people dont run around being evil, the lack of any benefit is what I find hard to match with the devil being an instrument of God. Unless these people are possessed by some other form of entity that isnt the devil, maybe I could blame it on those Nephilim people, its something Im still trying to square if I am to keep that working theory going.

I could denounce the act of “demonic” possession possibly as a genetic flaw in humans. this would get into some very deep genetic work as well as human behavioral patterns. It’s a pretty valid way to explain it away since the act of possession due to its length in history and similar symptoms all throughout time are similar not requiring the existence of any one entity for them to occur, simply the manifestation of them based upon the cultural mythos of the period seems to be how it works, for example if it was “demonic” I feel why not blurt out who would win the super bowl, or cure cancer or any diease if demons can know the future and progression of events in God’s plan, I feel these entities possessing people may be from some other realm due to this, which would still seem to be in line with Catholic teachings that these are some form of evil spirit or demonic being, currently researching this further to find any biblical citations directly linking them to hell or the devil. Trying to see if it says anywhere that say Jesus said “You are possessed by the devil who is evil and an evil spirit”. That would easily kill my idea of the devil being an instrument of God if I can find such a reference.

I dont get the biblical reference casting out 7 devils of Mary Magdelane. The devil 7 times or 7 things that were evil, other times it says demons, it would help for me to do more research on the roots of these words and weather its a matter of translation resulting in these usages of those words.

Seems that the way the words were translated that the usages of the words demons and devils could have been used in some circumstances to mean illnesses or some form of sinfulness. For example with Mary Magdelane there doesnt seem to be any corresponding symptoms mentioned traditionally connected to demonic possession such as speaking in tongues, or the other stuff, nor are the names of these devils given meaning it may simply be a physical matter upon closer examination.
