Zab, I thought we had a good discussion. I didn’t mean it as an attack by any means and I apologize if I came across that way. I have always maintained that one can be an orthodox Catholic without being a traditionalist. The point of this thread is for us to provide what we believe qualifies one as a “traditionalist”. Obviously, debate and disagreement are all part of the forum experience and can be constructive for both sides. But all of that falls to the wayside when people begin to sling negative stereotypes and sweeping generalizations.
My last point here is
The choice to use the label invites the very thing you are decrying here. It’s the nature of delineation by labels, that people want to know, generally and specifically, how you set yourself apart from “the others”.
Your use of the label tells everyone else that you are different. People want to know:
“Different? How?”
Because we are Catholic and Catholicism is unique, people have a sense that we should be united, not finding qualifications for certain groupings.
So, call me confused when you start bemoaning stereotypes and generalizations. (not that it’s right, but…)

Well, thank you, I appreciate that. But I am not so sure that the point of this thread is to provide what we believe qualifies one as a “traditionalist”. The OP “Peter26” has not participated in this discussion making any clarification of what he actually meant. I just assumed that he was asking about this board Traditional Catholicism, and who would qualify to post here. Under the title of this board on the forum page is a description: Discussion of Catholic Traditions and Customs. So you don’t have to be a Traditionalist to contribute to this discussion. Perhaps I misunderstood the tone of at least a couple of posters here. To me it sounded a little condescending. Sorry about that.

There is a difference between having a sincere discussion about the different expressions of the Catholic Faith and making unfair blanket statements. Forums are a place to discuss these kinds of issues among people who willing wish to discuss them.

I’m late to this thread, and I voted no, since my parish seems to have something unusual in Catholic parishes. There are contemporary Masses (OF), more traditional seeming Masses that are OF - where some women even veil, and we also have EF Masses on Sunday evenings.

“more traditional seeming Masses” :hmmm:
