Who wants the subject of evolution to NOT dominate CA Forums in 2006 they way it did in 2005?

Well, part of me says that since there really isn’t a “debate” we don’t need more threads

But then I look at the misunderstandings that some people have as to what evolution actually is and I just can’t keep my big mouth shut or rather, my stubby fingers still

So put me down for a definite maybe
😃

No way!

How about a sub-forum for science issues…?
That’s not a bad idea!

no sub forum. It isn’t the theory itself but the misapplication of the theory! These topics invariably wind around the secular culture and we need to discover a Catholic response to these issues.

Oh yes! I was going to add geocentricism to the list of no-no topics, but a sub-forum would be welcome–where the evolutionists, creationists, geo-centrists and solar centrists, etc., etc. can go at it and leave the rest of us in blessed peace! 👍

👍 This board is being dominated by such discussions. I don’t think it is what most people have in mind when they are looking for Catholic answers in the apologetics forum. I would bet that it turns a lot of seekers off. I left this board for a good year and put Catholicism on the shelf in large part due to what seemed, rightly or wrongly, to be an obsession for some Catholics to seperate themselves from the rest of conservative Christendom on this and to justifiy themselves intellectually to a community that will never accept them as legitimate or enlightened because of your belief in God.

To the Protestant seeker coming to this board it just appears that Catholics, again, rightly or wrongly, have a weak view of scripture and don’t take God’s word very seriously. Of course there are exceptions where it is the reverse for some, but I doubt the vast majority. I am not debating these points one way or the other. I am only talking about perception. If certain folks want to ensure certain seeking Protestants stay away from the church then people should continue to have 5 new evolution threads cluttering up the Apologetics forum every week.

Just my 2 cents. The last paragraph was not directed at you, Della, it was just a general statement.

Looks like all the Creationists are Christmas shopping today, while the Evolutionsist are hanging out here. Hmmmm. 😉

The Church allows us to believe either way (more or less) on this topic. In theory, this makes it good for discussion (although not that important) - when the Church has a strict teaching on something, all that happens is that someone posts the answer and that’s it. Well, that’s all that should happen but actually it often doesn’t. The problem is that evolution is not something being casually discussed over a cup of tea and no one will agree to disagree. People think they’re ‘right’ in their views about evolution as if that view was Church teaching and hence they have to convince all the others of their opinion… and the threads turn into some ridiculous ‘I am better than you, n00b!’ bash. After all, we are mostly not scientists here, so why are we so interested in a scientific topic and think we have the knowledge to debate it rather intelligently? ENOUGH evolution topics in Apologetics already I say! If you want to put it into a seperate sub forum, that’s fine, I just won’t look in there.

Yeah but if they don’t buy gifts they can expect not to get any to re-gift or to exchange. 😃 But they will be too busy raiding Whoville anyway. :rotfl:

Quite right. No Grinches for us! :bounce:
That (the “Nevermind”) was just my dishonest way of bumping this thread back up. I repent. :rotfl:

sigh
I voted No. It seems that there were a bunch of threads, but it didn’t seem like the vast majority were evolution based. What’s wrong with having a market based system? If you don’t want to encourage or endorse a thread, then don’t participate in it. I usually just jump in when I see something worth commenting on. Nobody put a gun to my head and said I had to weigh in on any given topic. Several of the topics lead to useful resources for my own understanding.

But then, I’m not a mod. Maybe there are some issues there I’m not aware of. Mods?

I agree with Zian. Nobody has to open and read through a tedious thread on evolution. Use your discretion and its no skin off anyones nose. Personally I ignore most threads that exceed about 30 or 40 posts because they tend to get a bit more than I want to read through on most subjects. Maybe I am a dilletant (sp)rather than a serious student. 🙂
