Right, the Republican Party is full of Republicans, the Libertarian Party is full of Libertarians, and the Democrat Party is full of Democrats. What is the problem?
Code:
The term has been used by Republicans since 1940 as a slur. The official name of the party is the Democratic Party. The fact that Democrats find that term insulting, should be enough that polite people would not use it.
"The partisan use as epithet has been traced by William Safire to the 1940 presidential campaign of Republican Wendell Willkie. Willkie’s campaign manager Harold Stassen explained to Safire his motivation for using the term. Stassen said that because the Democratic Party was at that time controlled by undemocratic bosses–“by Hague in New Jersey, Pendergast in Missouri and Kelly-Nash in Chicago, [it] should not be called a ‘Democratic Party.’ It should be called the ‘Democrat Party.’” (Safire, William (1988). You could look it up: more on language. Times Books.)

I’ll just call it the DNC and be done with it.

Did somebody delete the wiki article you linked to? It looks like its all covered in a red box?

I’ll just stick to ,as Cardinal Burke says, “The party of death” it is amazing that from slavery to segregation to abortion the Democrat party always seems to come down on the wrong side of History

Key words - polite people. 🤷

Just as the Republican Party always seems to come down on the side of the rich and of greed and of disregard for the poor.

Ought there not be an alternative to both parties?

Rich, it really isn’t fair to say that the GOP does not care for these people. They just want to work on it in a different way. Welfare is not the way. Helping them prepare themselves to support themselves it. And if you check out the Congress, you will find that there are as many rich and greedy Dems as there are Republicans. That old bromide is getting tiresome.

In you opinion-but it is a fact that the Democrat party supported slavery , segreagtion and today embraces abortion as a core policy of their party.

I have yet to see the Church condemn the GOP approach to helping the poor-yet the Church categorciall rejects core compenents of the Democrat party platform.

Let’s see how many CEOs line up on which party…

You guys have Buffet and Gates, Soros, Immelt…

I’d go on but I’m in DFW traffic atm.

But that is the only weapon in the Democrat Catholics arsenal when confronted with the Evil their party supports. They must try and draw a moral equivalence between political differences on how to best help the poor and allowing women to kill their children.

Mary, I’m certain that there are individual Republicans who want to help people and who are not greedy, and that there are even some who are not rich. But, who broadbrushes my party can expect the same in return.

Perhaps the best attitude is a pox on both parties, but not a pox on the individuals who support those two parties. 👍

I have yet to see the Catholic Church damn the Democratic Party and praise the GOP to the skies. When and only then will I consider switching sides.

Were slavery and segregation actually core policies of the entire Democratic party or just the Southern Dixiecrats who ended up switching over to the Republican Party in the 1980's?

And what's this "Democrat party" stuff? I thought you were going to refer to them as "The party of death". :D

What’s wrong with that? These kinds of things should be up to the state. If they were, there would probably be a lot of red states right now that would impose a ban on abortion. Roe v. Wade was the federal government overstepping it’s boundaries.

The major issue is how many are supporting Obama. I guess some people just want to have their religious freedoms further corroded.
👍

There are those who would have added, “the party of Muslim terrorists, illegal aliens, welfare parasites, Unholywood airheads, sexual perverts, pornographers, and criminals,” as we were described this morning on a conservative website. 🤷

Lovely, isn’t it? Do you think that such descriptions will move some of us to convert to the GOP?

I don’t think any of those descriptors apply to you, so…

That thinking is part of the problem. The Church condemns as immoral key parts of the Democrat platform such as the support for abortion rights, homosexual marriage, stem cell research, etc. but does not condemn the platform of the GOP. That alone should be a cause for any Catholic to think twice before pulling the lever for the Democrat party. You have set a standard - the Church damning the Democrat party and praising the GOP to the skies - suitable for you to use as an excuse for voting for the party which in many ways supports the culture of death.

You are not aware of the Church’s stern condemnation on the Democrat Party’s support of abortion? You are not aware of Cardinal Burkes warning that the Democrat Party is becoming the “Party of Death”
