Whoopi Goldberg Pulls Off Her Own Sister Act with Big Donation to Nuns

With all the disagreeing in our society, it makes me happy to see somebody do something good, especially something good related to our Church. May God bless Woopi in abundance! We as Catholics should lay aside our gripes against secular society for a few minutes and give thanks to God!
 
Not to rain on a good deed but Whoopi doesn’t seem to have done that out of her own pocket. The money and the van were donated. She may have been the means through which they received it.

Having heard some of her dialogue about pro-life I’m impressed that she had the grace to do this, I’m not sure many of the others in her little TV chat group would have. She deserves our thanks.

Most celebrities and politicians that present donations are not presenting their own donations. Sometimes they are just the guest used to bring more attention to the issue or recipient, sometimes they are more heavily involved in the organization.

By the way, time can be just as important as money. By giving her time and name recognition to this presentation, Whoopi Goldberg may cause other people to get involved with the nuns. This may actually cause some to come home to the Church, which is kind of ironic since she says she is Jewish.

One of our goals is to eventually found (others doing the founding, not us) a religious institute of vowed religious dedicated to St. Genesius and working with celebs.

I had nothing but utter joy when I saw what Whoopi did. I kept remembering when she was talking about “wh” – “Whoopeee” on Sesame Street, and wanted to post it on my blog, but I couldn’t find the clip.

I think Sister Act made an impression on her. What she did here was living the covenant, which is what our prayer for our Jewish confreres is to be. If they live the covenant, then perhaps they will come to the Lord. Their constant prayer for the coming of the Messiah is nostalgia, not true memory, as Fr. Dan Berrigan, SJ, taught us in Senior Requirement.
