I never drink to get drunk (1 Cor 6:9-10) and I rarely drink. Well, coffee and water.

Lately I have one beer in the evening. If my neighbors or wife have a drink I may have one or two more.

I have lost brother, cousin, grandfather and aunt to alcoholism. After an episode of indiscretion at age 20, I received the grace to walk away from it. Zip. Zero. Nada.

Fast forward 41 years. The foundation established by my hematologist held a wine tasting fundraiser. Being slightly more mature, I had a glass of wine which took me probably two hours to consume. After all, he saved my life at least three times.

Since then, I have had 1-2 glasses per year: in Anchorage Alaska last year, it was to commemorate10 years together as doctor and patient - on a 1.5 year survival prognostic.

It is now eleven years and counting, so I may just have a glass of bubbly in Anchorage this weekend.

I occasionally drink a bit while on the forums. It’s never more than one drink. Granted, I did recently try a couple very-high-ABV beers (both Russian stouts I believe). Both tasted OK, but I don’t intend to try another one. I can see the appeal, though.
Sometimes I see posts and wonder if the poster is drinking based on a change of the ‘feeling’ of their post.
For me, that’s generally tiredness and/or being distracted by something funny my cat is doing.

And how much is too much? I usually end up in confession because of drinking to excess. Not sure sometimes if more than three drinks is too much or not, but I go because of a guideline a priest told me he follows.

No…no me gusta el sabor del alcohol…
No, I do not like how alcohol tastes…
It is a waste of money to give me wine, Adgloriam…

And how much is too much?
Different people have different tolerance levels. My brother can drink a surprising amount of alcohol and not get drunk. I, on the other hand, have to be very careful, to the point I’d be nervous about drinking two drinks too close together.

I go on a bender once every… 4 months or so.

It reminds me why I’m not a drinker.

Though I do have a glass with dinner, and maybe one after.
