My husband cannot have alcohol for health reasons, so, what used to be our evening ritual of a glass of wine in the evenings before supper is over. I will maybe have some wine when we (rarely) go out to dinner, and I do not go on the internet while at dinner 🙂

I am an involuntary tee toatler

I like a good glass of wine. I like the occasional cosmo. I’m a two drink per week type of gal and one of hubby and my favorite things to do is to go to local vineyards and do a tasting. That said, I don’t think I’ve ever drank and forumed. That’s not to say that I’ve never felt like I needed a drink after reading something here ☺️.

Pope Benedict used to have one beer with his supper. I have done the same for the last 20 years. I drink for the flavor that compliments the meal.

Happy Birthday, mrsdizzyd! 🍰🥳🍻

Just took a swig of a leftover warm beer sitting by the couch in your honor. I had my monthly drink a night or so back, fell asleep before I got through the can
Haha! Thank you, I think. 😂

I’ll probably have my monthly G&T tonight to celebrate.

No…no me gusta el sabor del alcohol…
No, I do not like how alcohol tastes…
It is a waste of money to give me wine, Adgloriam…
This.

When people tell me it is an acquired taste, I have to wonder why someone to acquire the taste.

I do have some cheap vodka in the house, for the purpose of making vanilla extract.

Ironic, I think, as Franklin wrote this in his autobiography:
[London, age 19-20?]

At my first admission into this printing house I took to working at press, imagining I felt a want of the bodily exercise I had been used to in America, where presswork is mixed with composing. I drank only water; the other workmen, near fifty in number, were great guzzlers of beer. On occasion, I carried up and down stairs a large form of types in each hand, when others carried but one in both hands. They wondered to see, from this and several instances, that the Water-American, as they called me, was stronger than themselves, who drank strong beer!

We had an ale-house boy who attended always in the house to supply the workmen. My companion at the press drank every day a pint before breakfast, a pint at breakfast with his bread and cheese, a pint between breakfast and dinner, a pint at dinner, a pint in the afternoon about six o’clock, and another when he had done his day’s work. I thought it a detestable custom; but it was necessary, he supposed, to drink strong beer that he might be strong to labor.

I endeavored to convince him that the bodily strength afforded by beer could only be in proportion to the grain or flour of the barley dissolved in the water of which it was made; that there was more flour in a pennyworth of bread; and, therefore, if he would eat that with a pint of water, it would give him more strength than a quart of beer. He drank on, however, and had four or five shillings to pay out of his wages every Saturday night for that muddling liquor, an expense I was free from. And thus these poor devils kept themselves always under.

Do you like coffee? Because you could swap coffee for all the sugared beverages. Mountain Dew is pretty high in caffeine, but coffee at least has antioxidants and some health benefits.
I hate coffee. I don’t even like the smell of it.

All the other people in my family are coffee addicts. My older daughter drinks an entire pot before she even takes her morning shower. She has the coffee pot timed to start brewing a few minutes before her alarm clock wakes her up. My husband and younger daughter are Starbucks devotees. My brother drinks coffee all day long. When my parents were alive they drank coffee all day long.

I will rarely drink hot tea when it is very cold outside and I’m in a homestyle-type restaurant shivering because they seated me near the door.

Diet Coke has no sugar, and I’m not buying that the artificial sugars are just as bad for us. Drinking 6-8 sugar sodas would be a lot worse for me than drinking 6-8 drinks with aspartame. (I can’t use sucralose, the artifical sweetener used in many gums and in Diet Pepsi-very bad side effects, including severe headache and stomachache and despairing moods–very scary and I’m glad I discovered the cause.)

Again, mine is not a personality that should use alcohol! I would be living at the Rescue Mission within a year!

BTW, Mt. Dew has 45 mg caffeine per 12 oz. Coke and Diet Coke have around 39 mg. Coffee has 125 mg per 8 oz cup. So I would say that when it comes to caffeine, sodas, even Dew, have a lot less than coffee.

I’ll sip a beer while reading CAF sometimes. Only after 5:00 and I limit myself to two beers max.

It never occurred to me to drink while posting here. No offense, but I guess I drink socially with the people in my life with whom I have a less virtual relationship?

That’s true. Casual discussion would be a good place for this topic.

Bad things happen when I mix alcohol with social media. 😳 😁

I don’t understand the survey–is it asking about this particular moment?

I like coffee. I gave it up for lent one year and felt awful. The only tea that seemed to be able to give me a caffeine jolt was English Breakfast tea.

I also won’t give it up because it apparently has some benefit in keeping the brain healthy.

My mother has Alzheimer’s. In just 3 years she’s gone from being able to live alone and handle basic tasks ( with frequent checks from my sister and me) to now she’s losing the ability to feed herself, she needs assistance.

She knows I’m someone to her. Lately my name has been Tutti Tutti. It’s a devastating illness.

I primarily drink whiskey. I start my day with a glass before work, have either another whiskey or a beer upon returning from work, and another whiskey just before bed.

On the weekends I’ll also drink a beer or two each day.

Good suggestion…

It is in Casual Discussion now.
