I don’t want to speculate, but also do not have reason to doubt Archbishop Vigano either. I think it’s important to remember that the truthfulness of AV’s statements is also quite problematic for the Archbishop himself, because we now know based on his testimony that he knew about McCarrick, and though he remained silent when his public testimony could have helped protect seminarians and vulnerable young men, he waited until after Pope Francis had done something about McCarrick to come forward.
He does not offer any apologies or even a hint of repentance for his silence. Even if everything about Pope Francis is true, I don’t think AV or his associates should be celebrated.
