Why are atheists so unhappy?

Of course I’m inferior to God, but I am not held back by him either. I can do anything I put my mind to (within moral bounds) and I have the strenght to do too because of his infinite and unconditional love for me (which is greater than any human love). But we none of us can claim to be “infinite” it is not theoretically and practically impossible.
But it would sure come in handy at family picnics…

You’re avoiding the subject.

close-minded
  • 1 dictionary result
    close-mind·ed (klōs’mīn’dĭd, klōz’-)
adj. Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.
I think we have a match!!
I don’t doubt God because I know he loves me, so how can I be close-minded about this, that is, I can’t deny something that is real.

P.S. You still haven’t realized that it is I who sees beyond the material and it is you who limits himself to only what he can see.

We are not unhappy at all. We, are, I’d say on a whole happier than Christians, since we don’t have to follow all the rules! :dancing::dancing::dancing: Lol! Nah, I kid.
It’s much more a product of your environment and circumstances than your religious orientation, or lack thereof.

Today I’m like Super-Happy….Yup, even capitalized…circumstance is everything. 👍

P.S. You still haven’t realized that it is I who sees beyond the material and it is you who limits himself to only what he can see.
Do you believe in unicorns, leprachans, fairies, ghosts, ufo’s and big foot?

If not, why not? Your only limiting yourself to what you can see and to what you’ve been indoctrinated into believing.

Interesting that vast numbers of people do worship such a God and openly reject any notion that Christianity is the truth.

In any event, I worship no God. I find no difference in their invisibleness.

You do realize that had you been born in India, you would most likely be a Hindu and you would be defending the truth of Hinduism on a Hindu forum. 😃
And you do realize that had you been born in India you would have most likely been a Hindu too. 🤷 What’s your point that we only believe what we believe because of our culture? I rather think most people (who have the time to do such things) question or go through periods of doubt or searching at some point in their life. As for myself I have already stated why I believe what I believe (and I have no problems believing it).

Because I said I believe in FAITH and REASON.

I’m not asking you to deny anything. I’m not questioning your faith or asking you to stop believing. I’m only asking if you could say that there might be even the smallest possibility that you are wrong. You don’t even need to answer that though because I already know. I except my beliefs as reality, I also except yours as a possible reality. All I ask of you is the same. If you can’t, that’s fine to. It will not effect me and I’ll think none the less of you.

I believe what I believe
As did I, until such time that I allowed myself the freedom to challenge my beliefs.

Once the fear of confronting my faith was overcome, I realized that it had been built upon a house of cards.

For the record, I am a much happier and healthier unbeliever.

Let us be intellectually honest.

Believing that, on a weekly and even daily basis, you consume the flesh of the son of the creator of the universe, is not what one would consider a reasonable proposition.

It is a belief of faith and most certainly, not one of reason.

I don’t have anything to free myself from, and why should I confront my faith when I completely agree with it?

For the record, I’m happy and healthy too (by the grace of God).

You are only happy, because your God has decided that you be happy?

What of the the abused, beaten and forgotten children of this world. What of the 25,000 children who die of poverty related causes, every single day of the year?

A genuine shame, that the grace of God would not allow them to be happy as well. 😦

However “irrational” it is it’s true. Have you heard of the “Lanciano” miracle (and/or other eucharistic miracles)?

Of course and all of them, I am not a believer.

It is true to you, likely not to every Catholic and certainly not to the other 5.3 billion non-Catholics of the world.

You must remember, there are people who believe it true that they have been abducted by aliens. Believing something true, does not make it so.

No, I am happy because I am loved infinitely and unconditionally by God (this is why people who are so in love with God can suffer pretty much anything and still hold onto their humanity), and I’m healthy because when I almost died last year He saved my life. I don’t know why some people are born poor while others are born rich, what I do know is if we all lived according to Jesus’s teachings we would not have beaten, abused, forgotten (aborted) or starving children. I can well imagine how beautiful this world would be like if nations and people truly loved God and their neighbors.

Yes, but you would only have the testimony of those abducted, the eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, however, has been tested a multitude of times in a multitude of ways by the World Health Organization. The results are quite amazing.

I am happy despite not being loved or not feeling the need to be loved by an invisible God.

My wife and I are both cancer survivors. Had I been living at virtually any other time in history, regardless if we worshiped the Christian God, we both would surely have died.

It is science, medical technology and doctors who saved our lives.

Very true. I could write a book that, if everyone followed my advice, the world would be a better place. Yet, that would not make me God.

This can be accomplished without having to worship any God, let alone the Christian God.

Without knowing details of how you “almost died”, I’m going to have to side with arcio on this one. Miracles require no intervention by man. So, unless you almost died alone and god reached down and saved you, you need to credit the doctors with that one.

That’s nice.

Actually, I was at the point of dying as they were rushing me to the hospital (so our situations are “slightly” different), and there was nothing the doctors could have done except pump me full with antibiotics that did nothing to help (as the stage of infection was extremely critical).
Very true. I could write a book that, if everyone followed my advice, the world would be a better place. Yet, that would not make me God.
No, you couldn’t make this world a better place because you are not Jesus and you cannot therefore affect people as He did. Furthermore, you would have to believe in a universal moral standard for such thing to happen, and you are a moral relativist are you not?
This can be accomplished without having to worship any God, let alone the Christian God.
The most amazing and loving people that ever existed were saints, and that says a lot about the Christian God.

Since you don’t know the details don’t you think it rather rash to make a statement.
