“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”
Your contention is wrong.
There can be only
one real true God because if there were more than one God, then there would be chaos since they would not be in perfect union/unity as to “purpose.” For examples of this, think of the supposed pagan “gods” and all the chaos they supposedly caused by cross purposes and their supposed jealousy towards each other. (This is a characteristic of demons and evil men and is not “godly” at all.) Good existed first. (Genesis 1:31) Evil men and evil spirits corrupt good for their own evil purposes.
God must exist or we would not. We did not create ourselves, nor the world/earth, nor the heavens. Someone did, whether by direct “creation” out of “nothing” by divine decree and power, in just seven 24 hour days’ time, as some are wont to believe; or by creating the laws of science which will govern “creation” after its initial “substance,” “energy,” and “design” (which will all culminate in the "time allotted) are wrought by divine decree and power.
It really makes no difference since God is the initiator, regardless of the type of form taken (direct or indirect cause) or the amount of time expended (seven 24 hour days or millions of years) in order to accomplish what we all can see today with our own miraculous eyes.
Personally, if “eternity” were my realm, I’d want my “creation” to happen slowly over millions of years in order to further/prolong my enjoyment of my handiwork.
