Why are atheists so unhappy?

The problem with atheism is that it also implies self-deception. If you’re an atheist, you believe that you’re just the result of randomness and natural laws. Therefore, you lack any kind of meaningful autonomy - your actions are either deterministic or random or both, but never the product of free-will. Therefore, when you make a “decision” you have to deceive yourself into believing you’re actually deciding something by yourself.
The problem a lot of people (including yourself) have, is they dont understand the meaning of the word atheist.

Oh and i dont know any atheist that believes that their just the result of randomness and natural laws.

But thanks for telling us what you think i believe, you are however drastically incorrect.

Most Christians I know seem pretty miserable - maybe they are living in self-deception 😃

I think it depends on what kind of person one is: some Christians are revolting, some are very kind. Ditto for atheists. Or for any other group. It’s crazy to generalise from the sort of people that people are to the triuth or truthlessness of their world-view. Whether a Christian or atheist is a decent human being has nothing to do with their religion or irreligion, AFAICS. Religion is what one makes of it, IMO; God is as credible as one allows him or her or it or them to be.
I wish I could rename the title of this thread. As you point out, there are happy atheists and unhappy Christians. Happiness or unhappiness wasn’t really the point of my OP. It’s just that many atheists-not the indifferentists or “happy hedonists” but those who really make atheism their creed- go beyond a denial of God into a downright hatred of God or any religious expression.
At the beginning of this thread, a forum member named Arcio (subsequently banned) relegated God in to the same category as leprechauns and fairies. But if this is true, why do atheists spend so much time attacking a phantasm? Why don’t famous atheists write books like The Leprechaun Delusion or *Fairies Are Not Great *?

I am what most of you would call a ‘Militant Atheist’. I’m also a fairly happy person. I love my children, 3 boys and, I’m proud to say all Atheist. I’m more or less happily married, my wife is Catholic and we agreed to not push our beliefs on them other than to express our views and answer their questions. I guess they liked my answers better. I also have a lot of Atheist friends ‘all very happy’ This “atheists are unhappy” stuff is just another religious lie trying to keep the sheep from wandering to far from the flock. After all, who would want to be unhappy?
There are Atheist that are happy with their life but there is something that is lacking to their heart. For me, that’s because the vacum is not yet filled and they are not experiencing so much joy in their heart unlike what we are expeirencing today, however, let us still respect one another though we have different religion or personality. God bless!

Then please enlighten us: What do you believe you are the product of?

Well firstly my beliefs regarding my origins have NOTHING to do with my lack of believe in a god.

I accept Evolution due to the overwhelming evidence. I also accept Abiogenesis, though the details are no where near as detailed as the likes of evolution. Abiogenesis and Evolution have very little to do with randomness, and only a person ignorant of the those theories could suggest as much. IMO it stands to reason that someone who shows that level of ignorace has no right to comment on a theory as they clearly know nothing about the subject.

Im sorry but if someone is going to tell me what a believe, then totally misrepresent to a lack of knowledge, established universally accepted scienctific theories then i am going to point out they are ignorant. That is not ment as an inslut, its a fact.

Ignorant –adjective
  1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
  2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
  3. uninformed; unaware.
  4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

Hitler may have been baptized in the faith, but no way could he be considered a practicing Christian. If anything, he was a neo-pagan, and the official religion of Nazi Germany was Nazism.
Hitler was neither a practising Christian nor a Neo-pagan. He laughed at any neo-pagan attempt esp. by Himmler. Quote: “Now we have mysticism behind, and he [Himmler] is starting all over again.” (transl. from Albert Speer, “Erinnerungen”)
There has been no offical religion in Germany since 1806, 96% of all Germans were a member of some church during the 3rd Reich (about half Catholic/half protestant), “Gott mit uns” (God with us) stood on the buckle of a German soldier, the '33 concordate between Germany and the Vatican is the only 3rd Reich contract with a foreign power still in place, and Hitler personally ordered Bormann and Goebbels back into the Catholic church.
I really don’t know where this “Nazi-Germany was an atheist-neo-pagan-satanic state” nonsense comes from.

What causes evolution to occur? 🙂

Do i really have to? Can you not open a book for yourself. I’m getting a bit tired of the biology 101 stuff… Here, start at the begining…

If you can take the time to watch all 14 it will probably increase your understanding of science and the cosmos exponentially. There only 10 mins long.

I really don’t know where this “Nazi-Germany was an atheist-neo-pagan-satanic state” nonsense comes from.
Yes, it was an atheist-neo-pagan-satanic state.

Exhibit A:

"Dietrich Eckart was another leading member of the Thule Society. He was an occultist and publisher of a virulently anti-Semitic volkisch periodical Deutsch (In plain German). His articles flowed from the theories of Chamberlain, Lanz, and List. He predicted the imminent coming of a German messiah who would free Germany from the chains of Christianity and inaugurate a new era. Eckart was made editor in chief of the Volkischer Beobachter, the official Nazi newspaper, and would become very influential in Nazi Germany.

Exhibit B:

"As the official spiritual leader of the Nazi movement, Rosenberg was explicit about the rejection of Christianity in favour of Nazism’s own new Germanic, nationalist papan religion. In his 1930 book Myth of the Twentieth Century he wrote:

We now realize that the central supreme values of the Roman and the Protestant Churches, being a negative Christianity, do not respond to our soul, that they hinder the organic powers of the peoples determined by their the organic powers of the peoples determined by their Nordic race, that they must give way to them, that they will have a to remodeled to conform to a Germanic Christendom. Therein lies the meaning of the present religious search. Today, a new faith is awakening - the Myth of the Blood, the belief that the divine being of mankind generally is to be defended with a blood. The faith embodied by the fullest realization, that the Nordic blood constitutes that mystery which has supplanted and overwhelmed the old sacraments."

Exhibit C:

"Rosenberg drew up the program for the “National Reich Church”, which included:
  • The National Church will clear away from its altars all crucifixes, Bibles and pictures of saints.
  • On the altars there must be nothing but Mein Kampf and to the left of the altar a sword.
  • On the day of its foundation, the Christian Cross must be removed from all churches, cathedrals, and chapels . . . and must be superceded by the only unconquerable symbol, the swastika.
A hymn written for the new faith included the stanza:

The time of the Cross has gone now, The Sun-wheel shall arise, And so, with God, we shall be free at last And give our people their honor back.

The “sun wheel” is the swastika. Once again the direct opposition of the Nazis to Christianity and to all things Christian is evident."

Exhibit D:

"Martin Bormann, Hitler’s Deputy Fuhrer, worked closely with Rosenberg in his effort to establish the new Nazi religion. In various letters to him, Bormann mentioned the need for Rosenberg’s department to abolish religious services in the schools, confiscate religious property, circulate anti-religious material to the soldiers, and close down Christian periodicals and theological faculties. For it was clear to him that the Christian churches stood in the way of Nazism and had to be “conquered”; and as he wrote to Rosenberg: “The churches cannot be conquered by a compromise between National Socialism and Christian teachings, but only through a new ideology whose coming you yourself have announced in your writings.”

Exhibit E:

“No treatment of occultism in the Third Reich would be complete without discussing Himmler’s occultism, his occult mentor Karl Maria Wiligut, the occult underpinnings of the SS, and the special SS branch formed to deal with occult matters, the Ahnenerbe. Himmler’s SS was intrinsically a neo-religious order, incorporating the new mythology of the Third Reich. To qualify, candidates not only had to have proven pure Aryan blood going back three generations, but had to fit the physical Aryan model in height, coloring, and overall looks. Representing the bloodline for reconstructing the Aryan race, they were to reproduce as freely as possible, not only with their own wives but also with additional women. To provide these additional women, Himmler set up the lebensborn program, in which young women who exhibited the desired Aryan racial characteristics were recruited for specially set up “hostels” established on confiscated Jewish properties, where they would breed with SS men. It was considered an honor to be selected - 60% of the applicants were turned down - and official figures show that the program resulted in about 6000 illegitimate births.”

Exhibit F:

"The most blatant example of the Nazi’s perverse cooption of Christian of Christianity is the assigning of the role of the Messiah to Hitler. In this blasphemy Hitler takes the place of Christ; the thousand year reign of the Third Reich is the Messianic Era on earth; the Aryan race takes the place of the Jews as the Chosen People; and blood purity takes the place of holiness as the essence of salvation. Hitler alluded to this messianic role when he said: “Humanity accomplishes a step up every 700 years and the ultimate aim is the coming of the son of God. All created forces will be concentrated in a new species. It will be infinitely superior to modern man.”

to be continued. . .

Excellent post, Josie! I recall watching a documentary that showed German schoolkids doing a sort of ‘pledge of allegiance’ singing “Adolph Hitler is our Savior.”

"and again when he (Hitler) said: “Those who see in National Socialism, nothing more than a political movement know scarcely anything of it . . . . . It is more even than a religion. It is the will to create mankind anew.” He explicitly asserted the underlying paganism when he said: “The old beliefs will be brought back to honour again. The whole secret knowledge of nature, of the divine, the demonic. We will wash off the Christian veneer and bring out a religion peculiar to our race.”

Exhibit G:

"The 1935 German Farmer’s Almanac provides an example of this replacement of Christianity. In it every single Christian feast day was replaced with a pagan celebration, earning the following protest from the Catholic Bishop of Trier:

I am surprised and deeply shocked that the Reich Agricultural Corporation, to which every German farmer, man and woman, must belong, should have offered this Almanac . . . it is a deep insult to every Christian and Catholic feeling. The Saints’ Days, the mention of every Christian Feast Day, even Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost, have disappeared. January 6th (the Three Kings) is “The Three Asir Day.” February 22 (The Feast of St. Peter’s Chair) is the “Feast of Thor’s Chair.” Ash wednesday is “Ash Woden’s Day.” On Maundy Thursday, the feast of the institution of the Blessed Sacrament, there takes place the “consecration of the night-light oil.” Easter, the resurrection of Our Lord, is the “Feast of Ostara” (a German Spring goddess). Ascension Day is “Rescue of Thor’s Hammer.” . . . Christmas Eve is “The Birthday of Baldur, god of Light, and the Visit of the Infant Yule.”

Exhibit H:

"The Nazis made no secret of what the future held for Christianity should they have their way. At a meeting of the German Faith Movement in Hanover in 1937, the provincial leader, when asked, "What is to become of the numerous churches when the present generation which still clings to Christianity has died out? replied:

Churches of artistic and historic value will, of course, be preserved; they will be used for the solemn festivals of the German People, but naturally only after removing all Christian symbols . . . econd and third rate churches, however, will be demolished."

p.s. I think that’s enough for now.

Yes, it was an atheist-neo-pagan-satanic state.

Oops, couple of serious typos and omissions (typing too fast). Part of exhibit B should read like this:

Therein lies the meaning of the present religious search. Today, a new faith is awakening - the Myth of the Blood, the belief that the divine being of mankind generally is to be defended with a blood sacrifice. The faith embodied by the fullest realization, that the Nordic blood constitutes that mystery which has supplanted and overwhelmed the old sacraments."

The second important typo from exhibit F (Hitler’s own words):

“Humanity accomplishes a step up every 700 years and the ultimate aim is the coming of the sons of God. All created forces will be concentrated in a new species. It will be infinitely superior to modern man.”

Why look at dictatorships, when this is clearly not a relevant comparison? Why not look at modern democratic atheist countries like Sweden, or Japan? I think i know that answer to that 😉
They are not atheistic but secular. Not the same thing at all. 😉

OPEN A BOOK!!! Man oh man! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: Ignorance IS NOT a good argument.

Oh “Great” “Enlightened” “One”, tell me then what I’m ignorant of? 😉
LOL do you even need me to tell you what to read? Why don’t you pray to your “god” to educate you in basic science, see if that works! :D:D
