Why are Catholics so in love with their guns here on CAF?

Take guns out of America. Make it illegal like UK. 2nd Amendment, 1791. Old Law!! Do you really need guns? Self defence? Buy a rottweiler!! 😃
First, get a gun (illegely), two, break into house; three, kill dog; four, rape, rob, and kill humans in house.

Sounds about right. :D: šŸ˜›

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest rates of gun homicides in the world. There were 0.07 recorded intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010, compared to the 3.0 in the United States (over 40 times higher) and 0.21 in Germany (3 times higher).[4]

What about crimes committed with other weapons? Do you have those stats as well, along with the historical trend so we can have a better idea on that?

Criminal gets attacked by giant spider after killing dog and then falls into a pit with snakes in it :D:D

This thread is about guns.

Nowhere in the bible does it say you cannot defend yourself or your family. While I don’t own a gun, I am a full supporter of the second amendment.
I am also a supporter of the 2nd amendment and also a gun owner. However, the 2nd amendment does not say that there should not be limits on gun ownership. In fact it specifically references gun ownership in the context of a ā€œwell regulated militiaā€.

I am not in favor of getting rid of guns, I am however, in favor of tighter controls on guns and mandatory background checks for all gun purchases. I am also in favor of increased funding for mental health diagnosis and treatment. I believe that these things go hand in hand. Futhermore, I believe that if you do not properly secure your firearm and it is used to commit a crime and/or someone is playing with it and accidentally shoots someone, you should be at least partly responsible. Remember all rights come with responsibilities!

Ask Chicago how their strict gun control laws are working.
The problem with that argument is that it is very easy to get guns in neighboring states/areas that have much weaker gun laws and bring them to Chicago.

Anybody else noting a lot of anger in the pro-gun responses?
One should expect some anger or at least frustration when most of these threads result in ā€œI don’t like firearmsā€ posters-
-not bothering to learn the basics of US firearms laws- apparently they think you can walk into the local Wal-Mart and buy an automatic weapon
-not bothering to learn the difference between an automatic weapon and a semi-automatic weapon- apparently any firearm that looks like a Vietnam era M16 is somehow automatic
-basing their entire argument on how a firearms looks- If I spray painted an apple orange I would have to assume these individuals would want to make orange juice out of it
-presenting ā€œsolutionsā€ that ignore the actual issue (violence) and instead focus on firearms- apparently these people would also blame the hammer for their sore thumb instead of themselves for smashing said thumb
-presenting comparisons with other countries as proof outlawing firearms works- yeah, I guess little things like violence increasing in said country after firearms are banned, said countries already having a lower rate of violence than the US before they banned firearms, and other major cultural and social differences and variables can be ignored

and my personal favorite- ā€œI personally don’t see a need for firearms so of course firearms are evil and anyone who wants one must be badā€ type comments

So when a large man whose weight is the equivalent of two of me breaks into my house in the middle of the night while my husband is at work…

I’m supposed to drop to my knees and pray to God that he will go away…and NOTHING ELSE?

Or do I include making a phone call to the cops who are, at best, 10 mins away from call time to them coming to my door?

Or do I grab my gun, pray and call the cops…completely neutralizing the problem entirely?

I’m serious! I’d like to know how my using a weapon to defend myself in my home with my one year old is seen as not trusting in God.

I suppose my being robbed, raped and killed while my daughter is left until the morning when dad comes home or when someone else calls the cops because she is screaming for hours from the commotion.

Yeah…it’s just God’s will for all of this to happen.
I think that the faith/gun argument is silly. That being said, there is a gun problem in this country and it needs to be addressed. Banning guns is not the answer, but neither is doing nothing.

But guns kill innocent people.
Guns kill guilty people, too. Give me a break. I believe in the Constitution. We have the right to bear arms to protect us from a tyrannical government. I don’t understand why people don’t learn from history. If you take away all guns, you’re not going to take them from the bad people. They’re probably getting more right now while the good people can’t buy one or bullets.

What if, the catholic church said that God has said that all firearms should be destroyed immediately. Would you quote the 2nd amendment or go along with the church / God?

Would you stay obedient to the church / God?

Sure, because we know that criminals always get their guns registered and allow background checks!

I am pro-gun, and yes, I’m angry. I’m tired of the anti-gun proponents assuming I’m a psycho due to my gun ownership, or I will go psycho. I own 3 guns: a 20 gauge shotgun, a 22 rifle, and a 9 mm Lady Smith.

I’ve only used my guns once in my own defense. I pumped my shotgun, when I heard someone slit my locked screen, and attempt to jimmy open my locked patio door. A female living alone, so yeah, I was concerned. Whoever it was, upon hearing the very solid kerchunk from my shotgun ran away. Next morning, the maintenance guy came to repair the damage. He told me, whoever it was, was very close to gaining access to my apartment. The door jamb and screen door had to be replaced.

I have no interest in assault weapons, don’t care if a magazine holds more than 10 rounds. I’m a normal everyday person who doesn’t want to be a victim, especially, a dead victim.

Of course. But I’d not hold your breath on that one. Just War theory has a long and well documented history in catholic moral theology. Expecting it to be discarded tomorrow is as loony as expecting women priests.
