Idk maybe I misunderstood. But he just kept saying non Catholics were going to hell and that athiests are going to hell. Which isnt fair cus I have seen many athiests who are just as kind.

There’s a whole world of Catholics out there and just because the ones in your area lean one way politically, doesn’t mean there aren’t others with different views in the Church.
In my part of the country you’d be more likely to hear sermons going the other direction.

Idk what you are going on about. You probably saw Republicans and now are going crazy. I never said I didnt agree with Republicans. I share some values within it. Such as pro life of course. But I also sharse some values with Democrats. And I feel that political people dont see what is wrong within their party only what is wrong with the other. Political people dont accept that both parties arent perfect and when you vote you should vote on what is the less imperfect one. The one that goes with Gods teachings more. But they dont. They go with what they were raised with and what their idols are saying. Which is not ok. You shouldnt be 100% one side. You should be 100% God. Dont argue about blah blah blah other parties do this and that. Argue that well, my party does this good thing that God said we should do. This is why I hate politics. So toxic and full of people fully passionate about it when you should be passionate about God. Use that energy for God and prayer. Not looking to argue 24/7. And when people are ignorant about a certain party. Political people become so hostile rude and mean. When all you can do is in the kindness teach another person about your beliefs. In a kind manner. Why do you guys have to argue all the freaking time. Cant you educate eachother and have an opened mind without hostility example: some lady got mad at me when I was donating to charity, to the poor, to dog shelters and environmental groups. Just cus it wasnt to a pro life charity she lashed out on me and said we shouldnt be worshiping the earth and animals. Which is an example of her taking politics over religion. Because although we should care for one another, we should be caring for Gods creations aswell. But because she is worshipping politics over God. She doesnt see how stupid it sounds to be mad for not donating to something her political party wants people to donate to

Agreed. Its just that I do not feel comfortable even attending any religious events cus I come across those people everyday and I cant enjoy my religion as I used to. I agree. It could be a test. But its frustrating to see so many pharisees everywhere. Im starting to become one. Iv been here for 3 years and finally started making excuses to not attend or make friends in the church.
Excuse me but what is purpose of being Christian? Is it to “enjoy our religion” in our comfort zone or is it going into world and bringing Christ’s peace, love and Christ first of all to all people ? In all circumstances, even when we don’t like everyone and what they do?
And I think that you are starting from wrong perspective. Nobody is perfect, neither you are.

I knew an Eastern Catholic priest from Texas that was raised Episcopalian, became Orthodox, and then converted to Catholicism. God Rest his soul, he was not judgmental, and preached the gospel the way a priest should. He was not only a priest, he was a husband and a father, (remember Eastern) And a grandfather. All of that stuff is irrelevant whether or not he was from Texas. Texas is a state, a huge state, bigger than some countries, there are all kinds of people in Texas. I think it’s geographical location is irrelevant

I’ve never heard a Catholic priest condemn a person or a group or people. We believe only God is the judge. However, I’ve heard over and again that just because a person is “kind” doesn’t mean they are exempt from hell either…

Most atheists are likely going to “hell,” but they most likely won’t burn in “Hell.”

There is a BIG issue with English. We translate “hades” (the underworld or land of the dead) as “hell” while we translate “Gehenna” as “Hell.”

They are TWO different places.

The place were the damned go to burn is Hell (Gehenna).

Hell (Gehenna) is just one part of hell (hades).

Limbo literally means “the outer edge of hell (hades)”

The Church’s theory about Limbo is that it is a place of natural happiness. But it’s NOT in Heaven. It is located in the outer edge of “hell” (hades), far from the eternal torment of “Hell” (Gehenna).

To enter Heaven, one must be baptized (unless God makes an exception) & keep God’s commandments.

So are most Atheists going to “hell” (hades), yes they most likely are.

However, are most Atheists going to burn in “Hell” (Gehenna), no.

I pray this helps

Just a suggestion…why not start a weekly Rosary group in your home? Perhaps two or three people would be willing to get together for a Scriptural Rosary, and a Litany, and a short quiet time together, and then coffee.

Ooops, you will have to wait for this virus thing to be over before you do that. I had to stop the group that started at my home over twenty years ago. When this is all over we will start again!

Meanwhile, you can do as the saints do and persist in thinking the best of your neighbors, forgiving their sins, and praying to them to our Father – He’s OUR Father, remember. Exercise a little charity.

Not certain what part of texas you are from, but there could be various reasons why you are seeing what you are.

I live in the middle of the texas bible belt. Many protestant feelings seem to have transfered to some Catholics. Because you dont believe X you are less than.

Additionally folks are very cliqueish.

All you can really control is yourself. If people cause you to change the way you act or feel about yourself, remove yourself from them.

Something I have learned is that sometime when a group really is judgy against another group, there is a reason.
The reason might be dumb, or no longer valid, but it helps to listen and understand.

I worked with an Christian immigrant who hated Moslems. She had lived in a country with severe bias against her own religion. I would try to reason with her that not all Moslems were like the ones who mistreated and discriminated against her, but her wounds were simply too deep.

I tend to agree with Farron. I think we always have to ask…am I the one with the issue? Am I incorrect?

I’ve also met some pretty judge mental people though too.

OP if you really feel they don’t represent the Catholic ethic I would try to find a parish you believe does. Try to be objective. A good group to grow with is really helpful.

I’m a Catholic. Born & raised in Texas. Lived in Texas for all but 4 years of my life, I’m 47. I’ve worshipped with many Catholic communities over my years & have never experienced what the OP is talking about.

OP, everybody knows Texas has a problem with arrogance. Why’d you go there anyway? “Don’t mess with Texas”. Etc.
I’ve always been afraid of the whole state.

Why must Catholics be so so judgmental and disgusting and disrespectful?
Well, to be fair you have experienced one small town congregation.

I lived in Texas for the first 38 years of my life and attended many absolutely wonderful parishes, large and small.
Why are Southern people this way?
Well, they aren’t any more or less like any other people. Don’t generalize. Because I moved north and found the people where I live now a lot less welcoming than the South I was used to.
Or this town?
Maybe.

I know. So I was confused to hear this too. I was raised catholic. I only have been in catholic schools. I never heard this as well.

Yes it does. Wow. Wish they taught me this in school… thank youm you know what, this might be what he ment and I misunderstood him. Thank you so much
