Why are many protestants opposed to honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary?

James I would address your comments, but I am overwhelmed by the questions I’ve been receiving since becoming a member… It seems the more I answer, the more come the questions…

Remember Jesus said, that John had come in the Spirit of Elijah… One has to look at in what Spirit they are coming from… Even today, believers are to test the Spirits. And those that have the Holy Spirit are enabled to * Discern* the spirit, as 1 Cor. 12 explains.

Sincerely In Christ Jesus our Healer.
Barelohim.

I have noticed some scripture noting the reasons why protestants don’t honor Mary, and since it is Jesus speaking, whose words are to be most trusted? And lean on our own understanding…

Matthew 11:11… Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Since Mary was also born of a woman, then, according to jesus John was considered greater.
JL: Jesus was born of a woman was John greater than Jesus? That’s a poor reason not to honor Mary. Especially since other scripture tell us ALL generations will call her blessed, Lk1:48. I thank God I came out of a non-denomination that called her dead, but now am among one of the generations that call her blessed. God has done great things for her, Lk1:49. Have you ever ask yourself what great thingS God has done for her? Mary’s being magnifies the Lord, Lk1:46
Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the breasts which thou didst suck.
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Since it is obvious this woman was speaking of Jesus’ mother Mary, Jesus’ comment was clearly saying those that hear the Word, and do it are more blessed!
JL: Yes those who HEAR and DO the Word are blessed because they will have eternal life with God. Being the mother of God did not save Mary it was her HEARING and DOING God’s Word that saves.

[Lk1:41 And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; 42 and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, **Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me? 44 For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 And blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a fulfilment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord. 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaid: For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great thingS; And holy is his name.]

Amen brother…I believe I added to that on another thread just a few minutes ago. 😃
This place can keep you hopping…👍

Yes we are to test the spirits…and such discernment must come within the community - within the church (ekklesia)…not on our own…This is Jesus instruction to us in creating a community and then instructing us to “tell it to the church” and to “listen to the church” which has the authority to “bind and Loose”, “whatever”…
Therefore, we must be wary of those who would cause dissension and division among the disciples while claiming to be in the spirit…

Peace
James

The more Protestants understand Catholic understanding of Christ in the Eucharist and the Mass, the more they can understand Mary.
