I find that In Jesus had some posts that needed some answer. It seems necessary to find the root of all our beliefs. Who knows, one may just be fake!

Unless you can point to studies from Media critics and scholars that provide clear empirical evidence that the media is more left than right rather than speculation I’ll believe you.

You also have to understand that the media is multifaceted, Its not just TV, newspapers and magazines you also have to think of Movies, the internet and books as well. Some conservatives make it seem as if the left has a hegemony over the media and that all other voices are silient.

I have to be honest though I have not been paying attention to the news in the last few months because of school so things might have changed.
Here’s my suggestion, do a Google search for “media bias study” and look at just a few of the hits. They will all tell you the same thing. Believe me, I don’t make accusations without evidence.

Conservative voices are anything but silent, much to the annoyance of liberals. I understand how school can supersede just about everything else in your life. Been there, done that. So perhaps you’re not aware of the recent efforts by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other far-left politicians to reinstate something called the Fairness Doctrine. Google that one too, and you’ll find that it’s nothing more than an attempt to shut down the conservative influence on talk radio, one of the last forms of media that conservatives still have a strong foothold on. And liberals aren’t even trying to pretend that it’s not.

But this is starting to show signs of drifting off topic, so let’s return to the subject at hand.

I think you should look at the TEACHINGS of Islam. That’s really the only thing that matters to me.
Sure. Like these teachings for example:

9:29 “Fight against those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

47:4 “When ye meet the unbelievers, smite at their necks”

4:74 “To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah soon shall we give him a reward of great value.”

And from the Hadith:
Allah 's Apostle said, " I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,’ and whoever says, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,’ his life and property will be saved by me except for Islamic law, and his accounts will be with Allah, (either to punish him or to forgive him.)"

Islam is a religion of violence NOT peace.

Let us see how Muhammad’s immediate successors understood these verse.

Why are muslims so violent? it could be due to commands like this from islam’s own texts:

violent jihad at least once a year
…one must go on jihad (i.e., warlike razzias or raids) at least once a year…one may use a catapult against them [non-Muslims] when they are in a fortress, even if among them are women and children. One may set fire to them and/or drown them…If a person of the Ahl al-Kitab [People of The Book – Jews and Christians, typically] is enslaved, his marriage is [automatically] revoked…One may cut down their trees…One must destroy their useless books. Jihadists may take as booty whatever they decide…they may steal as much food as they need…
…the dhimmi is obliged not to mention Allah or His Apostle…Jews, Christians, and Majians must pay the jizya [poll tax on non-Muslims]…on offering up the jizya, the dhimmi must hang his head while the official takes hold of his beard and hits [the dhimmi] on the protruberant bone beneath his ear *… They are not permitted to ostentatiously display their wine or church bells…their houses may not be higher than the Muslim’s, no matter how low that is. The dhimmi may not ride an elegant horse or mule; he may ride a donkey only if the saddle-work] is of wood. He may not walk on the good part of the road. They [the dhimmis] have to wear [an identifying] patch [on their clothing], even women, and even in the [public] baths…[dhimmis] must hold their tongue…. (Al-Ghazali (d. 1111). Kitab al-Wagiz fi fiqh madhab al-imam al-Safi’i, Beirut, 1979, pp. 186, 190-91; 199-200; 202-203. [English translation by Dr. Michael Schub.])
*
Here we have an insight into the only peace that islam recognizes - besides death is the call to islam, or da’wa, and if one does not accept that then they are obliged to wage war - or accept subjugation (dhimmi status). Only three options for peace with muslims.
At its core, Islam is a religious mission to all humanity. Muslims are religiously obliged to disseminate the Islamic faith throughout the world. “We have sent you forth to all mankind” (Q. 34:28). If non-Muslims submit to conversion or subjugation, this call (da’wa) can be pursued peacefully. If they do not, Muslims are obliged to wage war against them. In Islam, peace requires that non-Muslims submit to the call of Islam, either by converting or by accepting the status of a religious minority (dhimmi) and paying the imposed poll tax, jizya. World peace, the final stage of the da’wa, is reached only with the conversion or submission of all mankind to Islam…Muslims believe that expansion through war is not aggression but a fulfillment of the Qur’anic command to spread Islam as a way to peace. The resort to force to disseminate Islam is not war (harb), a word that is used only to describe the use of force by non-Muslims. Islamic wars are not hurub (the plural of harb) but rather futuhat, acts of “opening” the world to Islam and expressing Islamic jihad. Relations between dar al-Islam, the home of peace, and dar al-harb, the world of unbelievers, nevertheless take place in a state of war, according to the Qur’an and to the authoritative commentaries of Islamic jurists. Unbelievers who stand in the way, creating obstacles for the da’wa, are blamed for this state of war, for the da’wa can be pursued peacefully if others submit to it. In other words, those who resist Islam cause wars and are responsible for them. Only when Muslim power is weak is “temporary truce” (hudna) allowed (Islamic jurists differ on the definition of “temporary”)
(Tibi, Bassam. “War and Peace in Islam,” in The Ethics of War and Peace: Religious and Secular Perspectives, edited by Terry Nardin, 1996, Princeton, N.J., pp. 129-131)
There is also more about the violence against their own women in the article that I won’t discuss in this post.

non fo teh facts you quoted are any were near facts. The number of victims of violence of Sep 11 , the madrid biombing, the london bombing and the latest indian tragedy is a fraction of the children who died in iraq after american embargo in th 90s .
You are making an unsound link here. The victims of Sep 11, Madrid, London and Mumbai were killed by evil zealots in the name of their religion. The tragedy of children dying due to embargo’s was caused by their own government and the corruption of the Ba’ath Party and the U.N.
The wars Catholics and protestants massacred each other for 30 years in europran wars . nazism grew in the heartland of Christian europe. 60 Million human biengs died in world wars created by christians.
You are confusing the religion of people starting a war with people starting a war due to religion. WWI was started by old imperial rivalries and the desire for more acquisition of land and materiel.
WWII was allowed to start by the nearsightedness of the winners of WWI (or more precisely by the early losers who were saved) which caused an environment that could not help but lead to a second war.
as we speak now settlers in israel are continuing their attack on palestinians in wehich the israeli prime minister himself described as pogroms! and hindu mobs mass raped and burnt alive whole muslim villiage in gugarat.
While these are tragic they were also done from anger as reprisals to what those had been done to the Israelis and Indians.
Yet muslims never generalised like you generalise, in fact it gives me great pride to see you write what you write because it is confirmed now that islam has the moral high ground as more sensible non judging faith that is able to direct its criticism to the peiople who deserve it.
I’m glad to hear it. What was all the calling the US the “Great Satan” and the targeted killings of innocent civilians because of nationality either American or just innocents when a Dane drew pictures of a man dead over 1300 years? In America we do not like people denigrating the image of Christ, who is God, but we do not riot over it or kill people like many Muslims do over pictures of a mere man, Mohamed.

I think you should look at the TEACHINGS of Islam. That’s really the only thing that matters to me.
Then if the TEACHINGS of Islam are peaceful then I would fully expect you to be charging for the destruction of the Wahabbis and others who are doing all the violence,

Hi

Sorry, you are giving a wrong piece of advice to a peaceful Muslims, in my opinion. A peaceful man would always adopt peaceful methods. The politicians are being looked after by the politicians of the West.

Thanks

Yeah, I think people really should learn what these verses mean.

Are you interested in learning what they mean? Or do you prefer your own whimsical interpretaion to that of centuries of scholarship?

The gravest mistake that human kind has committed against human kind is misinterpretation of any holy book.

It is not only muslims that have been violent, do some research and you will find that Catholics and Protestants use to fight against each other as well for the same reason of Islam. They were both saying that their religion was the only true religion.

If you examine scripture will you learn discernment in Galatians 5:22 The fruits of the spirit. 22 But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, humility and self control. Anyone who acts differently than the fruits of the spirit, is truly not from GOD. How can they be, their behavior is not pleasing to GOD at all.

Not all Muslims are violent, just as all Catholics or Protestants are not violent,it’s only the unbalanced extremists.

The answer to your question “will they ever change”, would be “only if they return to GOD”.

Thank GOD for all bad things that happen in your life, for its because of the bad things that we learn to endure and become humble.

No ai m perfectly making a similar comparison . The people who did the sep 11 and madrid bombing did it out of anger and revenge against what they saw as attack , support of despotic regimes and ravaging of a muslim countries like in Palestine, and Iraq. Weather they derived their energy from religion or not doesnt change that their motive is political message . When a soldier kisses a cross before going to battle in WW2 doesnt mean he is fighting now a religious war!! But he derives the energy and the will to dfefend a what he percieves as a just cause from his faith. The Iraqi government dwith all its faults , never created an embargo on their people , it was america that called for the embargo and sustained it untill nearly half a million child died out of lack of medecine! Dont blame it on the UN because me and you know that the US RUN the UN !! The baath party ruled Iraq since rthe 70s , never there was mass death of people from the lack of medecine !!! Why sdhould we go far away!! The US encourages and supports a Crime against humanity which is the embargo against the people of Gaza. ALL people of Gaza including all the children elderly , sick and you name it!!!

‘’’‘You are confusing the religion of people starting a war with people starting a war due to religion. WWI was started by old imperial rivalries and the desire for more acquisition of land and materiel.

You seem to never get that normal people that can have a different faith than you can wage a war for other reasons than religion!!! You link every problem to Islam . and then when people fall back ona their faith because that is the only hope that is left to them , youy call it a war mandated by their faith!!! a very convenient way of hiding away the real crimes and the real injustices that powerful empires can inflict on people. iots a very old method, dehumanize and make them look irrational and then we will not have to feel bad about bombing them! and how should we do that , just lets blame all the reasons of the conflict on their fanatical religion !!

‘’‘While these are tragic they were also done from anger as reprisals to what those had been done to the Israelis and Indians.’’

Nothing has been done to teh isralis and indians that they havent started it . The palestinians lived in peace until the ''western holocaust ‘’ drove all ‘‘european jews’’ down to palestine . What does that have to do with religion ? and who took whose land?!!!

as for Kashmir, the people of kashmir vioted democraticly to be indipendant oif India and join pakistan . India undemocraticly and under a ruler that is allied with her at teh time ‘’ forced’’ the people of kashmir to be part of india .

who forced who? Tell me ! who started the injustice!!!

The calling of america the great satan was done by few men in the irani giovernment ,muslims dont call america the great satan !! and guess what !! even iran didnt get away from american C.R.A.P . Every Iranian know the story when the amerricans and the vbritish overthrew the ‘’‘democratically elected government ‘’’’ tio install their own dictator in the 50s . The man tiortured and killed and it was no surprise that he ioranians made a revoloution .

its very concvenient of you o mention the ‘‘riot’’ of muslims because if it was orther people than muslioms it would becalled demonstrations!!! ofcourse there were both of them demonstrations in the majority and some times riots . But for muslims we always call them riots!! all of them . makes us sleep better!!!

silence is acceptance

and when you hear of muslims rioting, celebrating their suicide bombers, jihadists, etc that have just killed infidel women and children and days such as 9/11, parading their stuff as in NYC muslim day parade, protesting cartoons - just remember that there is no such thing coming from the so called ‘peaceful’ or ‘moderate’ ones. Why? Because their silence is acceptance of what those jihadists are doing.

while time and again we hear from people who are unable to figure out that such things as the Crusades, Inquistion, etc have happened centuries ago and do not happen to this day. And our laws do not accept the killing, rape, torture of a people just because they are not Christians - as sharia laws allow muslims to do to non-muslims and even their own females.

All I ask of people like you before you post such things is to READ READ READ and do some research on what you assert.

this is a subject we have heard so many denials from muslims on these threads that it is not a part of islam, but they are instead tribal practices. Well, that is just a downright… well, deception. And keep in mind that the stated goals of muslims is to establish sharia laws in our lands - not necessarily to convert us but to subjugate us.

‘honor killings’ is indeed in their islamic texts.

Honor killing in Pakistan: Girl clubbed to death by uncle
A manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).
In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.“Girl clubbed to death by uncle,” by Khadijah Shah of the Rays of Development Organisation, at STOP! Honour Killings, December 9 (thanks to Religion of Peace):

Bahawalpur, Pakistan: One young girl was clubbed to death by her uncle for her alleged illicit relations with a man in TM Pannah Police jurisdiction here on Thursday. Accused Fida Hussain, uncle of Shehnaz Bibi, found her niece sitting with her alleged paramour Amir Khan. He took her to her house and later clubbed her to death.Police have registered a murder case against Fida Hussain on the complain of the girl’s father Nazir Ahmad.

If one does a search of this you will read about honor killings in all of the Middle East, AFrica, southeast Asia - wherever there is sharia law enforced you will find that honor killings are ok.

I’m seeing lots of exclamation points from our fellow Meedo, but not a lot of thinking going on as to what goes in between them. Calm down, friend. You’ll live longer.

First, a few points on which I personally agree with Meedo:
  • What is going on in the occupied territories of Palestine is a terrible injustice that deprives all of the Palestinians of the basic necessities needed to live on their land, which is their right. It is not primarily religious, as it affects both Christians and Muslims alike, and both faiths are indigenous to the land. Every Palestinian I have ever met is Christian, and trust me when I say that they are united with their Muslim compatriots in their belief that their land should be free from occupiers, as they’d like to return to it some day but don’t see that happening while it is still occupied. Their methods of achieving that might be different, though…not that Israel really cares all that much. Read here what happened after tax resistors in Bayt Sahour (80% Christian, 20% Muslim) tried to use economic leverage during the first intifada instead of the suicide bombing so popular among the Muslim majority. Israel cut off food shipments, barred reporters and consulates from other countries from coming in to investigate Israel’s treatment of the townspeople, cut telephone lines, etc. There is no justice in this. I know I am very much in the minority among American Christians, but I see no reason we should support such a flagrant violator of human rights as Israel…and I know several Israelis and American Jews who share similar concerns, so I don’t think it’s “anti-Jewish” or otherwise reactionary to feel that way. Caring about social justice, and I do very deeply, means caring about the welfare of everyone, including Palestinians of all religions. [/rant]
  • Overthrowing Mossadeq…it’s easy to “armchair quarterback” it, to use an American saying, but really, there is little dispute that he was democratically elected, even if not everybody loved him (I can’t imagine the clerics being thrilled about his secular policies, but then again they never seem to be happy about anything anyway), so overthrowing him was depriving Iran of choosing its own path, which is not very well in keeping with the democratic ideal that Britain and the USA claim to strive towards. Perhaps the Iranians will also choose to rid themselves of their current government, as demographic shifts in that country (and recent experiments with liberalization under the Khatami) could pave the way for a new generation of leadership that can see beyond extreme theocracy as a anecdote to Western meddling, when the average Iranian on the street might not appreciate either.
With these points out of the way…Meedo, please quit the hysterics. “Christian riots”? If you want to know why they are not presented as such, it’s because they are not happening! Christians do get involved in violent conflict with members of other religions in places where there is such strife (Nigeria, for instance), but generally they are dragged into it. The instances when they are not, such as in Northern Ireland, are inter-communal, and hence more akin to what some people say is going on in Iraq between the Sunnis and the Shia. In fact, when I searched for “Christian Riots” just now on Google, the first page that came up after several pages on recent anti-Christian violence in India was this one. I invite you to read it and ponder its message before asking such questions in the future.

On that note, can you give ONE example of when christians started a riot that caused fatalities over a newspaper cartoon?
meedo forgets all the muslims caught on video around this world - and even in our own lands - dancing and celebrating the deaths of 9/11.

I didn’t bother to read the rest of his post - his spin was more than I could stomach.

silence is acceptance

“The time is coming when those who kill you will think they are offering service to God.”-Christ Jesus

Israel violates no human rights. They are defending themselves. They get bombs lobbed into their lands on a daily basis and of course - that is never in the news. Our medias and our left are islam’s useful Idiots.

In fact, Israel has muslims within its borders. The ones that chose to stay even when the Saudis told the Palestinians (Pals) to leave before the 6 Day war. The Arabs promised to take care of those Pals, and instead walked away from them after they left israel. But, the saudis have been brewing hatred in the pals via the mosques and groups such as hamas. they are using the pals as their human bombs.

In fact, Israel is getting it from Lebanon - that same country the muslims have systematically made into a violent pig sty of islamic violence. hezbollah lob bombs into Israel daily and have been building up its ammo since the Israeli/lebanon war. And because the victims of islam fight back the usual claims of victimhood come from the muslims. they whine so loudly - they would lob bombs where children were living and then after the Israelis struck back - the muslims had run like little girls and then came back to get the dead bodies for our media.

They do this so very well. You see, no non-muslim is supposed to fight back because the arrogance in islam says that kufir are to just accept death, conversion or subjugation. and the Israelis are not accepting subjugation.

And some of it goes into the definition of words. No muslim is an aggressor - only kufir are aggressors. muslims are only victims no matter how much violence they have started.

Myths, Facts of the 6 Day War

what I don’t understand from ones such as us who have the truth - is why no one puts one and one together and wonder why the muslims have continually broken any peace treaties they have made.
Or that when Israel left the Gaza strip that the muslims didn’t stop and instead broke another peace treaty.

Or that Egypt has a wall between them and the Pals too.

or that Jordan has kicked out the pals too and they migrated to Lebanon and helped to make that country into a pig sty.

or looked up why muslims break peace treaties - it is called hudna.

(according to mohammed a peace treaty is to last no longer than 10 years and is to be broken sooner when they are able to do so if they have not accepted islam or subjugation)

R_not, it is not my intention to turn this thread into a debate on Israel/Palestine. I only brought this up since Meedo had raised an objection concerning it, and seems to be under the erroneous belief that Americans are precluded from forming their own opinions by baised media coverage on Middle Eastern issues, which makes us out to be idiots for the sake of being able to complain more about us. Obviously, I disagree with that.

As to whether or not Israel violates human rights, I will invite you to do your own research into Israeli water rationing in Palestine, and then determine for yourself if the inequity you will find constitutes a violation of human rights. I think it does, but you may feel differently. That’s up to you. I harbor no ill-will against you, but this is the only post you’ll see from me directly addressing you or your claims about Israel. I prefer to calmly disagree than to get drawn into protracted arguments, especially since I think we both mean well, just have different motivations and ideas (I think I said this last time we got into an argument, too? Well, at any rate, I still believe it.)

Peace.

I actually wondered why the Israelis didn’t stop the flow of water sooner. Let me see - they lob bombs at schools, and blow up buses, and other places where children go and they are supported by israeli’s flow of water?

I won’t post anymore about Israel but I do ask that you look more into the problem over there. The pals have wasted so much time and money on bombs - training their kids to be jihadists from kindergarten on up and celebrate when they die (they know they will get a paycheck for giving their kids to that cause) that it is rather sick overall.

the israelis only stopped the flow of water AFTER the pals continued to bomb them AFTER I don’t know how many peace treaties and AFTER turning the land over to them. They even left their agricultural buildings that the pals didn’t have a clue to use and instead of getting trained on that - they chose the route of jihad and killing while wailing and whining they are the victims.

They are in a fight for their very existence and their lives. And they have the world against them due to the muslim’s propaganda being much better and the usual anti-semitism from Europe, our left and the muslims here.
