Why are Protestants confused by Gays?

As far as I know, the Bible has never been considered a science text book - not in Galileo’s time, and not in ours.

Everything in the Bible is true, of course, but it doesn’t contain sufficient information on scientific subjects to arrive at any specific conclusions regarding astronomy, or any other subject of science.

I also have no idea why you’re bringing this up. What does it have to do with gays? 🤷

No argument here. But at the very least, the bible is quoted today in reference to the earth being round, again to emphasize its accuracy. So at the very least, didn’t scripture coincide with Galileo’s findings? So even when the church was comfronting Galileo, for whatever reason, wasn’t scripture silently supporting his findings the whole time?

I don’t know, since I don’t really know what Galileo’s theory actually was. I am under the impression that he believed the planets orbit in circles around the Sun, which of course is not true - they orbit in parabolas; not circles, so if you want to get technical, his theory wasn’t even correct, in the first place.

I don’t know of anything in the Bible that would either prove or disprove anything about planetary orbits.

Well just as you said earlier, the bible is not a science book. But at the very least, what Galileo and scripture were saying was true, right? – Cause the earth is round and it does hang upon nothing.

What Scripture says is true; according to my brother, who is a theoretical physicist working for the American government, Galileo made quite a few mistakes, though.

He also says that if there had been such a thing as the Academy of Sciences, and Galileo had done to them what he did to the Church, he would have been bounced out the back door and down the servants’ stairs on his head, instructed never to return, and been forbidden to publish; nobody today would have ever so much as heard of him.

My brother thinks he got off pretty easy, all things considered.

I’m not a scientist, so I don’t really know. 🤷

I would say that generalizing Catholics into a category of people that associate you with satan isn’t very nice.

I don’t think I ever said that all catholics say this, if I did please quote me and show me because that was never what I meant. As for saying it isn’t nice, well, it wasn’t nice for them to say that Satan and I were associated. But it happens, just because it isn’t “nice” of me to point out this ignorance doesn’t keep it from the fact that it actually happened. 🤷

I am referring to the idea that because you do not read the word sodomy in some particular translation does not prove homosexual acts are favored by God. That argument makes no sense.

Also, this private interpretation makes no sense as it is at best hit or miss and it leaves out all of Tradition and His Church He founded for the salvation of souls.

I think it’s the perfect example of what’s wrong with liberal Protestantism today. If anything, they are even more hyper-literalistic with the Bible than their Fundamentalist counterparts.

Maybe you missed this fact, but I actually quoted from Tradion, all 4000+ years of it!
 
i call myself a presbyterian. and yeah, your right, the bible is pretty black and white on the issue of gays. i know for sure in my church, and im pretty sure just about any other genuine pressy church, its not on. now i know there has been a lot of publicity of gay ministers in protestant churches, particularly the uniting church (not meaning to point the finger). i have a uniting church friend and this is what he told me. almost noone in his church approves of gays. the genuine church participants are more focused on the main point of church-that is learning, meeting and growing with other Xns, evangelism, etc. this allows those who are corrupted to pursue careers as priests while the others are busy doing whats right. the corrupt (im not saying they are all gays) filter through the system to achieve high paying jobs as high ranking ministers with high pay and who also are in the spotlight of the media.
 
there are many black and white issues in the bible. The bible doesn’t get everything right by a plain reading of the text.
 
Deuteronomy 22 & Leviticus 20:13 . Are both clear on this subject. Now anyone can put their kind of spin on those two passages. But when all is said and done, at the end of the day, when the fat chick sings. those two passages state very clearly that homosexuality is wrong.
 
And on the whole Galileo and the pope thing. What a lot of so called open minded rational scientist won’t comment on. Is the fact that while Galileo was putting forward his argument. Just about every Scientist was telling the pope that he (Galileo) was wrong.

It’s interesting that you mentioned Duet. chapter 22. I’m curios as to how the translation you use reads.
And speaking of the bible being “clear” on subjects, Ephesians 6:5-8, is pretty “clear” that the institution of slavery is approved by God himself right?
