Why are Protestants so Anti-Catholic?

Why are Protestants who have bias against the Catholic Church so Anti-Catholic. There are numerous Non-Catholic Members here who are extremely Anti-Catholic. I won’t mention their names.
Look at it like a dysfunctional family. Protestants are the unruly children that want to do what ever they want, and the Catholics are the parents who tell them what’s really what. This upsets the children and they stomp off telling themselves there adopted. But like children, some grow out of this phase and some don’t.

Hmmmm… my Father (my Parent) is God… not the catholic church.

Glad you missed the anology. Either way I have my Father (God) and my Mother (The Church). Looks like your missing the other parental figure in your life.

I have Protestant family members and friends. I do not consider them to be unruly. They are not anti-Catholic. They are just continuing in the faith that they were brought up in. Even though they are Lutheran or Methodist, they consider me (Catholic) to be a Christian. They never try to convert me and never accuse me of following a false religion. They are my brothers and sisters in Christ (separated, but not by their fault; they are just continuing in the faith in which they were raised).

Wait, so the three of you are saying that the Catholic Church didn’t have the ultimate answers then, and they had to learn about their morality right along side the rest of society?
well again, it depends on which peroid of History,

again, the Catholic Church throughout history was always deeply concerned of the unity of christianity and salvation is what The Church took very seriously.

We have had one Pope who dealt with this by seperating the christians from the Jews, he had all the Jews move to a different residency and to protect unity so that salvation wouldn’t be lost among the christian community.

Pope Innocent the 3rd attempted to resolve the Cathar’s break away in a peaceful way, for instances, he send the Dominicans to speak with them.

We also have another peroid like France where a crime against the Church was a crime against the State, and it was actually the State officials that murdered.

you have to be specific on which peroid.

Maybe you missed what I was saying, and maybe you didn’t. I was citing a well known argument that the idea that morals ultimately come from religion (from God) is false.

Does the Church espouse this viewpoint? My guess is no, not necessarily, but I’d like to hear what people have to say on it. From what I have seen, no one has said that the Church has always been perfect. Instead, they state that the message the Church carries is perfect, and that the transmission has never been cut off to the point of not being recoverable, but that there have been sins committed by its high ranking members. What would have happened to those of the faithful, by these members’ influence, who were also led astray by their bad examples? How can we be sure that the Catholic Church today isn’t leading Catholics astray on certain moral issues, in this same manner?
We also have another peroid like France where a crime against the Church was a crime against the State, and it was actually the State officials that murdered.
Seems to me that you are just passing the blame here.

If I had authority over the protestants you are DARN-TOOTIN’ right that I would be doing something! But I don’t. So I can’t stop it. I do not stand next to the men and women killing catholics in the name of God. To me, they are not christian and not my brothers or sisters…

But it seems to me that if you have such a hierarchy in the CC then the leaders should be able to do something on their side… The bible says ‘Thou shalt NOT kill’… why aren’t people being removed from the church by disobeying such a blatent law?

I wouldn’t be surprised if God has some issues with letting those who are killing their brothers and sisters in Christ get through the Pearly Gates…
If we are talking about the more recent ‘‘Troubles’’ then I have no problem saying that some Catholics were acting against their faith (And some, like the drug dealers and gangsters are not acting in any Christian capacity, but a nationalistic one). However it was instigated by cruelty at the hands of the Protestant ruling groups and in order to ensure the survival of innocents (the people the British government mainly targeted), some Catholics chose to dirty their hands with violence . Though if we are talking about the rest of the time, that was a war of independence. Surely as an American you can appreciate that? I feel I have dragged this too far off topic. If you want to continue feel free to make another thread about the struggles in Ireland.

God is everything to me. I have no need for anything else but Him. He fills me up to the point where I am overflowing. To say that I am in need for anything else would be incorrect. I am part of the Body of Christ, the Bride. I lack for nothing.🙂

I think that there are many times that I forget that not only am I held accountable for what I do, I am held accountable for what I FAIL to do, this is why I love my priest. At Mass before the Confession he says "for the times that we have failed to love as God loves, for the times that we have failed to recognize our dependance on God, for the times we have neglected to share and cooperate in the Life of God let us ask God to forgive us. This just came to me this day and I thought I would share it. Please pray for me a sinner.

lets see …Thou shall not kill…mmmm…guess that means innocent folks like the developing baby in the temporary hosts body…or killing a homeowner who is defending his family from a burglar…now,in the original the reading is …'thous shalt not committ murder…now thats a bit difference…now back during the closing days of the civil war in the Lake Shetek settlement of Minnesota the brave fearless native americans killed (murdered) some 644 old men, women and children…you see the young mean europeon men were away fighting to end slavery in this promised land! On 9-11 thousands of innocent people working in the twin towers here in New York were fire bombed to death…8 were former students of mine…they were murdered!..Todays headlines read that some guy is being held for murdering his pregnant wife and (shocking) unborn baby…unborn baby…counting that lovely innocent creature as a human being…Dred Scott where are you…the supremes declared the developing baby is not a person and thus not worthy of the protection of the constitution…and so it goes…as the 4th approaches …the light of Liberty goes dimmer and dimmer…Nino

Sure are a lot of "I"s in that statement. Hopefully your fallowing what God wants and not what you want. Or in your words; “What I want.” Also hope your fallowing the true God and not the one you built off of a foundation of "I"s.

That is a pretty strong accusation. One that I COULD take great offense to but I won’t. Tho your words were a thin vail for the disdain you had for what I said, you have your opinions and your judgements and God will deal with them in His perfect time. I have no need to retalliate. I can really hear, behind the ‘hope’ you have for me, that you resent something in what I have said above. I apologize if this offended you. It was not intentional. God has really been teaching me lately that through Him ALL things are possible. And through ONLY Him.

But you should ask yourself, after that accusitory question and tone:

Do you need more than God? Is He not enough for you?

Glory be to God that I do not rely on myself to handle my life. Glory be to Him to have changed my life and be the reason I am alive today. Glory be to Him that no matter what mere humans have done to me I can still love my fellow man and see God through them.

I will stand by my statement that you have quoted. He is enough for me. I am not worthy of His perfect love nor am I worthy of the sacrifice Christ made for us but He offered it anyway. For this I owe Him everything I have… and that isn’t enough for one drop of what He deserves.

Actually there is a thread or two on this very board that actually has catholics DEFENDING these heinous acts. Rationalizing it because that was what the times were like…
I participated in more then one of those threads. While a couple of Catholics did outright defend it, most, myself included, were dicussing the circumstances. And the majority agreed that the only deaths we could agree with were the ones of people who actually committed violent crimes or serious treason. However we had no source that went case by case through the 3000-6000 people who were executed as heritcs. So the best we could say is that some we don’t know about most of the cases.
I make no excuse for what other protestants have done when it comes to slaughtering catholics. It’s wrong. .
I agree, and visa versa.
What about Ireland? Protestants and catholics alike are killing eachother there and neither side is doing anything about it. It’s really sad. Why does the CC condone this? Wouldn’t that be something that the CC would be actively trying to stop? Apparently not since there actually has to be a dividing line with a wall built between North and South.
Do you really think that the CC has absolute control over all its members? Are you saying that the CC condoned the violence, actively encouraged it and maybe even helped?

I’ll turn the question around… why didn’t the prodestant church stop it?

Well actually you couldn’t take offence to it because I didn’t accuse you of it. Oh and I agree. Glory and thanks be to God for everything. Including the Church He founded for us. You know…that church you disregard as if it was trash on the side of the street. Furthermore God is also the reason for why I’m alive, and for why I’m no longer a person who uses drugs, and alcohol. There are many other things also, and all my Thanks goes to God. But If you actually opend those peepers of yours, you would realize that, that same church you say you do not need is also the Church were Christ is present everyday in the Eucharist. If you only knew what the Eucharist does for you and what the Eucharist is, you would never say you could live without it.

Either way I’m glad you turned your life around, and I’m glad you know who was respocible for your strength (God). Hopefully you will look a little bit harder, and ask why would Christ build a Church if it was not needed. Also maybe you will realize that Church is a prayer and one of the greatest ways of giving thanks to God. I used to think like you did. I used to never regard the Church as something needed. How wrong I was. I guess I can’t stand to see someone eles make the same mistake. Think about it, or be pissed off.

Oh honey, I do disagree… Let’s see, what was your quote? Oh yes:
You know…that church you disregard as if it was trash on the side of the street
When did I EVER say it was trash? There is anger inside of you and it has been directed towards me. That is ok. I can ‘take’ it. Your whole quote before accused me of turning my faith on myself rather than God. But you buttered it up nicely with a few sarcastic I hope’s. Again, I COULD take offense but I won’t.
Oh and I agree. Glory and thanks be to God for everything.
Well I am happy we can agree on something… 🙂
Including the Church He founded for us. You know…that church you disregard as if it was trash on the side of the street.
While I have already addressed this above I did want to include this on it’s own little quote to point out that if I had said this about you… You would have tried to have me banned. A little charity goes a LONG way…
Furthermore God is also the reason for why I’m alive, and for why I’m no longer a person who uses drugs, and alcohol. There are many other things also, and all my Thanks goes to God.
I am so happy for you! That is awesome… It is AMAZING what God can do in our lives when we open up and give Him the controls. Praise GOD!
But If you actually opend those peepers of yours, you would realize that, that same church you say you do not need is also the Church were Christ is present everyday in the Eucharist.
As you believe. I do not and there may come a time when I will face the reality of this and be proven wrong but that is really between me and God don’t you think? My ‘peepers’ as you call them are open and I am open to the catholic church should that be the path that God has chosen for me. I don’t feel called there but then again, I am here aren’t I?
If you only knew what the Eucharist does for you and what the Eucharist is, you would never say you could live without it.
Perhaps, but then again… That is between me and my Lord, not you…
Either way I’m glad you turned your life around, and I’m glad you know who was respocible for your strength (God). Hopefully you will look a little bit harder, and ask why would Christ build a Church if it was not needed.
Oh He did build a wonderful church! The Body of Christ, His Church, His Bride… and you and I are members of that now! Hurray! God is awesome!
Also maybe you will realize that Church is a prayer and one of the greatest ways of giving thanks to God. I used to think like you did. I used to never regard the Church as something needed.
When did I say that church wasn’t needed? I was responding to a quote that someone said the church and God were the parents. God is my one and ONLY parent. He is all I need for that. The church is a way to learn about Him and worship Him. But it is not my parent anymore than you are. I go to church. I haven’t been good at it in the past but I am doing better at going every Sunday now. It is WAY important. Just not nearly as important as God.
How wrong I was. I guess I can’t stand to see someone eles make the same mistake. Think about it, or be pissed off.
Well, while I think you are the one ‘pissed off’ about something, because I am clearly not, I will take your suggestion into consideration. I am ALWAYS open to where God will lead me next… God has chosen me, why I do not know… And I will follow Him until the end, wherever that may lead.

May I make a suggestion? Find someone who you can really talk to about the anger that seems to be coming through your posts. It can’t be helping your relationship with God. No offense intended. Just an observation from your sister in Christ who loves you. 😊

No offense taken. While this conversation hasnt been a nice one, it has however shown me a serious issue wich I need to fix: my anger. I’m sorry for the comments and thank you for your charity/patience with me. :blessyou:

Not a problem! 👍 And if you need someone to talk to, even though I AM protestant, I am here… Just let me know! 😃

well, because catholics entrust their prayers to mary and not solely to God, because the catholic church plays politics in God’s name when Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world and His servants don’t fight for him. Because the catholic church turned a blind eye to murder of heretics, and schismatics. because the teaching has changed according to the amount of political power the church wields being harsh towards jews, pagans, and protestants in earlier times and more conciliatory now. because the church prevented the commoner from reading or hearing the scripture’s in their own language, because the church does not crack down on pediphile priests, because the church in the catechism gives bad advice on mixed marriage with an unbeliever conflicting the tradition of the apostle paul. because the catholic church has done much to offend against christ by its racism and intolerance, because we have personally been offended by catholics we know, because the catholics we meet do not live holy lifestyles except a religious devotion to rituals, because catholics worship a corruptable piece of bread and wine in a container made with hands as though it were God Himself. that is how the catholic church looks to a protestant from the outside. I know it sounds bad, but you asked.
