Why are the NABRE footnotes approved?

Probably both. The combination of high-dose steroids and Irish can get ugly.

I would still love to hear - from anyone - a solid, catechism and sacred tradition backed defense of the NAB/RE notes.

Look here, I did not start this. A completely legitimate question was asked…
I certainly did not start this. I answered the question that was asked, explaining why the NABRE notes are approved. You do not seem to like the answer for some reason. If you can answer the question why did the bishops approve the NABRE notes without mentioning the bishops, I would like to hear it.

I was satisfied with my original response, but you asked me to support what I had said. So I did. i do not know why you fault me for doing that.

This is a simple factual issue as far as I am concerned. The USCCB initiated the NAB, they oversee it, and have been involved in revisions. It is not something prepared by others and brought to them for a nihil obstat; bishops were involved from start to finish. It is their translation, including the notes.

If you want to disagree with them and their “progressive modernist” attitudes, you can go right ahead. I prefer to support the bishops, and I even think that is something Catholics are supposed to do. But if you think otherwise, do what you think is right. I won’t argue about anything but the facts of who authorized the NABRE.
