Read Scott’s books I’ve read many of them and am reading one now .I like his books he is one of my favorite Catholic authors along with Stephen k Ray.
Sure, and it wouldn’t be the first time that “some priests and lay Catholics” have taught the wrong stuff. However, it is also clear that a large number of “priests and lay Catholics”, including those teaching in the Catholic schools and those handing out Bibles to married couples and suggesting they read them together, were teaching something totally different. But some priests and lay Catholics incorrectly taught that Catholics should not read the Bible at home.
That’s common sense. Catholic book stores have been openly selling bibles to civilians for many, many decades. They wouldn’t sell them if it was contraband. And she was NEVER taught that Catholics weren’t to read the Bible. So please don’t try to blame this particular falsehood on the teaching nuns.
My DH was taught Catholics are to be hated, shunned and never taken seriously. They are the devil. The Catholic Church is the anti-christ. He still believes a lot of that even after many years of marriage. It’s in his DNA so to speak. I can’t really understand how we can get along in this marriage (but for the grace of God!) What I’m saying is that people get wrong ideas from people around them while they are growing up. Unless God intervenes… and I pray daily… he’ll believe those lies until he dies…it could be that is what she thought was being taught. At that young of an age it could easily be misunderstood. However, if she was a continuing practicing Catholic she would have learned about the error. Is she still a practicing Catholic and if not when did she stop attending the Catholic Church?
