I moved your question here.
May I ask this question which is concerning me. Why are we going back to a latin Mass. When I was a child growing up we had Latin Mass. Now I am older and the church is returning to it.

1.I do not go to a French mass because I feel I cannot participate in the mass because of the language. I do not understand after it feels like I did not even go to church. Music will be beautiful but?
  1. The veil I wore when young, the church stop it. That does not concern me though.
3 Now that the masss will be in Latin will the Church now change Bibles back into latin? Also when we ask a question will he hear oh it does not mean this or that, because your reading a English Bible, but it means this now in Latin and we now go by that??

Talk about more and more confusion coming up in future years.

Oh the human mind. God is the same today as yesterday.
The tabernacle is no longer on the altar, but off to the side?

I first felt we turned our backs on God when the priest turned to say mass facing us, now we have taken God off the altar --what next?

Are we not there to praise and glorify him, not us?

Thanks-- God Bless

The masses are not all returning to Latin. The Latin mass (the Extraordinary Form) will exist side by side the the Vernacular Mass (Ordinary Form)
The Bibles will continue to be in the vernacular.

And I don’t quite understand the last part of your question.

I am so sick of all of this. I grew up with the EF as the norm. It wasn’t the TLM or the EF, it was MASS. There are far too many of us who are alive today who remember our childhood. The
EF is not EF…it is the Mass of our childhood. Blessed art thou O Lord of all creation…

In our diocese the parishes rotate. There are latin masses and vernacular masses available. Personally, i think the whole variety has enriched the whole experience

-revelation

The experience of having both forms of the Mass available is incredible. 👍

Because Latin is the official language, always has been, always will be, of the Latin Rite Church.
Just to be clear I’m not for Latin only. But I do believe that Roman Rite Catholics should learn certain responses and prayers in Latin the official language of their Rite. We should have available Vernacular, Latin/Vernacular, and Latin Mass available.

…a most heartfelt amen to your beliefs…

There are plenty who have grown up with the NO as the MASS just like you grew up with TLM.

Missals change. The Popes caved and turned the church into a democracy.

If it was about the language used there was no need for the first indult.

This is basically my POV, except I’m not sure how people like me would learn the Latin responses and prayers if we did not practice them on a regular basis, which would mean attending Latin or L/V Mass. I’m telling ya, I forget something by the time I walk out the door unless I repeat it constantly, and even then, I have to check the cheat sheet to remember!

Many Protestant denominations offer at least two styles of worship services: Traditional and Contemporary. Some add a third style: Alternative (which can mean many different things–in some churches, it means no music and contemplative, while in other churches, it means rock music and a video).

My point is, people are all different, and having different forms of Mass available to Christians is a great way to be “One” without all being the same.

I’m all for a few phrases of Latin in the mass, but the rest in English. What is also needed is more information ABOUT the mass. Explanations of each part of the mass. Many people don’t even realize that all of the mass is from scripture. Some don’t even know why they should attend!!!

We need teaching along with preaching!!

*Remember the reason for the season.

Planter,
  1. our participation should be first interior, then exterior. if we feal like we cant participate at a Mass just because we cant understand the words we must ask ourselves if we are really going beyond the mere words and focusing on the actual sacrafice that is taking place. having said that, almost everyone who attends a TLM uses a bi lingual hand missal so they can read the prayers said by the priest in their own language. personally, i find it much easier to participate in the TLM because i can read the prayers and meditate on their meaning without being distracted by all the needless dialogue the takes place in the Novus Ordo. i’m convinced that the reason that we switched to an all vernacular Mass was because at some point we forgot this and started to believe that “active participation” meant “external participation.”
  2. again this ia another tradition that was dropped due to a mis-understanding. there are many beautiful reasons why women wore chapel veils, but again at some point they were ignored and instead people claimed that they were degrading to women.
  3. no the church will likely never supress vernacular translations of scripture like it once did. you do bring up an often ignored argument for not translating things into the vernacular and that is that when one translates somthing one must always interpret it, and human interpritations can be wrong. also vernacular languages tend to change constantly so that a word (gay for instance) will mean one thing to one generation, but its meaning can rapidly change and mean somthing totally different. by using a single dead language we can insure that the meaning of a text will be preserved for thousands of years.
finally, you make an excellent point, about turning our backs to God and focusing on ourselves. this is one of the most criticized problems with the Novus Ordo, and im convinced that before too long we will see its celebration on traditional high altars allowed/encouraged.

one last point, we should be clear that the Extrordinary form is not the “latin Mass” and the ordinary form is not the “vernacular Mass.” the OF is the Novus Ordo in latin. all its official books are in latin and it was orrigionally intended to be celebrated primaraly in latin. it was only after the group of people who mis-understood #1 got a hold of it that it turned into the “vernacular Mass” in the minds of most people.

The normative missal does not have us turning our backs on God and focusing on ourselves.

Thank you God Bless…a very litttle child of God

Yes it is and we are singing adeste fidelis again, it is so pretty.
wouldn’t it be nice to put in a little greek and hebrew too.
I’m not being cynical i like it too. 👍

A little too early to be singing Adeste Fidelis but I’ll join you in singing Veni, Veni, Emmanuel.

We are not. We are, however, going forward to many Masses, some of which may be Latin.

Read the thread entitled Heretic Hour at the Local Church. That should give you a clue.

The Holy Father desperately hopes, I would assume, that the Pauline Rite Mass, which has suffered horrendous abuses in the past forty years will benefit from the laity being once again exposed to the Traditional Mass.

It pretty obvious that the perpetrators of the abuses will not stop until either the Bishops stop them, that is when they are not directly involved in them or when the laity stops going to these abominations.

So lets hope for the best.👍 👍

If there are abuses it is because the pastor allows it.

If the pastor commits the abuse(s) then it is because the bishop allows it.

“Exposing the laity” to TLM does not change that.
