This is a question which I must answer for a friend of mine. He comes from a predominately protestant family, and I believe that they are very inactive. My question is, what reasons should I give him to become Catholic and why Catholicism has more validity then Protestantism? He’s not stubborn and I know he’s very open and I’m sure if I give him the proper reasoning he’ll be willing to take RCIA. I appreciate any help anyone can give me, or if there’s already a thread with a list of reason or something, could I be directed to that as well?
Thanks,

Discerning the Church which Christ founded.
There are a few things we know about this true church:
- It was built by Jesus Christ himself (Matt 16:18) which means that the “true church” must be about 2000 years old.
- Jesus only built ONE church (Matt 16:18).
- This church is the God -ordained upholder, protector and defender of the truth (1 Tim 3:15).
- This church is the fullness of Christ (Eph 1:22-23) which means that it is also the fullness of truth (John 14:6).
- The unity of this church will be proof to the world that Jesus was sent by God (John 17:21,23). In order for this unity to be seen by the world this church must be a visible church. The unity of this church must be a unity like that which exists between Jesus and the Father (John 17:21-23), therefore there can be no contradictions in doctrine. The Father and the Son do not disagree on doctrine therefore neither can the “true church”.
- This church can never change what it proclaims to be true. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8) therefore truth is the same yesterday, today and forever (John 14:6).
- The Church which Jesus Christ founded is the one through which He chose to declare which are the books contained in His New and Eternal Covenant.

How to recognize the Church founded by Jesus Christ.
Use this guideline as a measure…
*Jesus Christ Himself said that He would found His Church in Mt 16:18 when He walked the Earth in the flesh 2000 years ago, so it must be 2000 years old.
*It would be built on Simon Peter, Mt 16:18.
*It would be defended by GOD Himself, Mt 16:18-19.
*It would have authority given by Jesus Christ, Mt 16:19,18:17-18.
*It would be guided by the Holy Spirit who will dwell within it, Jn 14:15-17, Act 15:28,16:6.
*It would be one and undivided, Mk 3:24-25.
*It would have one fold and one shepherd, Jn 10:16.
*It would have Priests, Bishops, and Deacons, 1Tim 3:1-13.
*It must have the Holy Eucharist celebration, Jn 6:42-70, Act 2:42.
*It must be found in all nations, Mt 28:19.
*It must be found in all centuries, Mt 28:20.
*Jesus Christ said He would be with His Church every day, in every year, until the end of the world, Mt 28:20. This means no gaps in time.
Examine your Church to see if it meets ALL of these requirements.
It must NOT have a human person founder.
It must have a continuous history going back over 2000 years.
