Asking how something will happen is not doubting that it can, or will, happen.
except when you give a reason that makes it unlikely:
because I know not man?*

another translation:

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

reaction of disbelief. understandable.

If that is what you chose to believe, that’s fine, but the Gospel disagrees with you.

Luke 1:45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.

discrimination and favoritism is rampant in the bible. so i’m not surprised why one is punished and the other is not, for their momentary understandable disbelief.

Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost

Do you have no respect for God? If the Holy Spirit says that Zachary did not believe and that Mary did, who are you to say He is wrong?

I no longer believe that you’re here to learn and dialogue, but simply here to stir the pot. I am adding you to my ignore list, and I would encourage as many people as possible to do the same, There’s talking with those who are confused or sincerely seeking answers, even if they don’t believe, and then there’s just wasting one’s time.

I have respect for the real God out there.

however the god character in the bible is an obvious fraud for me. sorry. 🙂

Agreed. This discussion is over.

I read the first two pages and saw that no one on those pages answered the question asked by the OP in the way which he asked it.

Possibly someone else answered it already but I’ll just answer it now.

The reason God does not speak to us directly; that is, through visions or actually appearing before us and walking on earth as He did with Adam and Eve; is because it would interfere with His promise of giving us free will.

Free will is a gift He has given us to decide between good and evil, to choose God or to choose our own self-love.

If he appeared as a shining deity up in the sky every day, it would be, quite literally, impossible for anyone not to believe.

But, since he has given us free will, God does not make Himself so obvious and leaves us to search Him out; to choose Him.

I hope this answers your question.

That has been brought up 2 or 3 times. But nobody knows what to make with the new problem it creates:

Does this mean the prophets, apostles and mama mary all had their Free Will violated?
🤷

@ sophion

you say you believe in God…

now has he spoke to you,or sent you any thing to say he exists?

if he hasn’t,could you tell me why you believe in him…

if he has then could you tell me what kind of communication was it he used with “YOU”?

and by the way God has spoke to me,through many, many forms of communication…

just look at all the languages in the the world… if you spoke to you in chinese would you know its God,would you know what he is saying?

so what form of language or communication did God use for you to know he exists?

you see intelligence but you say that he can’t speak to people, really?

do you believe in LOVE/FAITH/HOPE?

its pretty loaded, but can you look for him/see him(God) in any of the given above?

if you can tell me what you see…

what did God have to say to me…lololol…

the three above with the warts and all… 👍

now if you don’t understand that, then his message was only for me and people who can understand it/feel it, not you…

all the very best … 👍

so far it looks like someone made things up and left it running on its own.

Not really, if you read about Job, he really did not want the job, in fact he made off in the opposite direction he was told to go.

…but eventually he agreed by an act of his own free will, otherwise he would have obeyed robotically.

I think the ‘shining god in the sky’ or whatever it was analogy would undermine freewill by inspiring obedience through fear, whereas as I think I said before, all He wants of you really is just to be good to people, not to wait to obey voices in your head robotically, or through fear.

Why cant God just communicate with us directly?
He can-easily-but rarely does. Instead He “hides” Himself according to Isaiah 45:15. And this is so, presumably, so that man can be as free from any and all constraints as he desires to be from any conscious acknowledgement of any being necessarily superior to himself. This desire to be separate/autonomous/apart from God is an aspect of the doctrine of the Fall of man and Original Sin. As with the Prodigal, this life involves a separation from the Father whom we should begin to develop a hunger and thirst for as we come to tire of humankind’s ways, which includes our own, and begin to recognize our need for Him and the perfection of His ways. Our faith/grace/revelation play their part in informing us of His existence and helping us make our way back home. Anyway, via our faith God helps us without forcing us to obey Him, as He helps us come to know and thus love Him.

I like this quote from an anonymous thinker:
"Integrity is to do the right thing even when no one’s looking." That’s how God wants us to be.

Jonah was the one who ran away, not Job, but interesting point. Even those who unequivocally recognize the Lord’s voice don’t automatically have their faith - in as far as faith can be measured by acceptance and obedience - increased by it.

Sarah heard the angels and didn’t believe. Samuel was called a few times without realizing it was the Lord - at first he thought it was Eli the high priest.

So no, not everyone even initially recognizes the Lord’s voice, and it is a whole extra step from hearing to accepting and believing. One which some won’t take.

So I guess it books down to - will it necessarily be beneficial or useful for God to communicate directly with each of us? As I said earlier, Judas heard and saw but possibly did not understand, and definitely didn’t believe.

he should do it again so that the modern world can hear him.
But it is written, “Blessed is he, who has NOT seen, YET BELIEVED.” Why should He do the talking directly to us once again (audibly and visibly) when He has already done that through the prophets and THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, as well as to some of the blessed men and women (the saints) of the Church? To say that God needs to talk to each and every billions of people around the world (just for each and everyone to believe for example) implies that God didn’t do enough and He has not revealed Himself enough. Are we in position to say “If you really are the One, True and Almighty God, you will talk to me and to my millions of brothers aroused the world so that we may come to know you more.”? Suppose that God talks to us individually (literally), then all will believe that He really is somewhere out there watching us. That would be an easy way and perhaps He would be happy because we all believe
But that’s not the case. God is always God whether or not there is a single person believes in Him. Secondly, God wants us to discover Him through our learnings and experiences while we are here on earth. He wants us to know Him, not to make Himself known to us by “visible means” everytime. We should do our homework! Jesus Himself said that he who will not carry his own cross cannot be His follower. That “cross” includes the “struggle” and the desire for us to know God through the Scriptures, the Church and Her teachings.🙂

So there you go. People who literaly spoke with God did not lose their free will.
