Why can't (not all but some) Protestants leave us (Catholics) alone with our devotion?

Manny… you have outdone yourself this time for sure. Man, you’ve got to lighten up.

O+
The only positive I wish to see more in this forum is what belief we have in common. Believe me I did post a thread “What do we all have in common (as Christians).” That thread only lasted a week.

It is a shame. No one wants to talk about what is right, only what is wrong. Anyway, from what I have seen, once you get off of the internet, there are way more protestants telling Catholics they are wrong than the other way.

I’m sure some Protestants here have started to pray some of our prayers. I don’t know who but I bet some of them do pray the rosary or even the Divine Chaplet Prayer since that prayer itself is Jesus Centered.
I do pray the rosary, just not in the same way as Catholics, and i do pray allot of “Catholic” prayers :o

Figment of some of my imagination. Tell me AllSaint, are the web master of these website a figment of my imagination:

Unless you can prove these people are a figment of my imagination. You have proven your case. However, these people are out there, and perhaps there are thousands of others who have their belief as well. They aren’t my imagination.
Yeah they are some wacky protestants out there:p
For example the site you quoted also bashes lutherans
jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Religions/Lutherans/lutheranism_exposed.htm

Here are some quotes
Lutheranism is straight out of the pits of hell!
Mary Worship
Though not to the idolatrous extent that the Catholics idolize Mary, the Lutherans follow in the same adulterous steps of the Great Whore, Roman Catholicism.
The Lutheran religion is a child of the parent Catholic monstrosity (the “MOTHER OF HARLOTS”–Revelation 17:5).
The bottom line is that the Lutherans are still very much Catholic in their beliefs and practices. Don’t be deceived
Lutherans are basically unofficial Catholics. They read out of the Apocrypha like the Catholics. They recognize Catholic saints, holidays and festivals. They baptize infants like the Catholics.
Lutherans and Catholics Moving to Unite in Apostasy
The Lutheran religion is nothing less than diet Catholicism, i.e., you get the same poison of Catholicism, just less of it. The Lutheran religion is straight from Satan himself.
:hypno: :whacky:

Filthy, divisive heretics. I don’t even consider them Protestants, if they’re tearing down Protestant groups like that, as well as the Holy Church. Blapshemous heretics.

Nope. They seek to preach the Word of God to us and tell us our doctrines are false. They claim they are right, and we got it wrong. They should be treated with respect. The only I don’t respect is their insistence that our religion is pagan, or worst Apostacy.
Manny, even here - don’t you see that they are motivated out of love when they tell you this? They believe that we are doomed to hell - and while I certainly disagree with them, and while I certainly get very annoyed when I am attacked by protestants and others who don’t share the faith with me, that doesn’t excuse any sulking or attacks coming from me.
Most of the time when we explain our faith to them. They will say, you are taking the Scripture out of context, or the ECF out of context. Or say the ECF are un-Biblical. If they want to understand, they should say. Oh, I see. I get out now. Even if we correct them, they still say we are wrong.
How many times should we forgive someone? Seventy times seventy. Do they need to ask us for us to forgive them? No. They don’t even need to know that we are forgiving them.

Yes it is very annoying when people ask you to explain something and then refute your explanations… but perhaps you can also see there that many people are still honestly trying to learn. If they don’t understand your explanation, or they have an objection, you want them to say “Oh I see, I get it now”?

It would be a lie for them to do so, because they don’t get it! Maybe they do want to learn, but they need us to help them get past the misconceptions they’ve been raised with!
Should we accept people who tell lies about our Church?
Yes!!! Accepting the people does not mean that we accept the lies! Certainly, confront them in their dishonesty. But don’t… don’t attack them, don’t run away and sulk, don’t ignore them.

Maybe they don’t know that they are telling lies; maybe they’ve been told the same lies, and maybe they believe them. Correct them - gently!

Maybe they do know that they are telling lies; still, correct them gently. If for no other reason than that we don’t know who is aware of their misconception and who is not… yet also because even those who purposefully spread lies about the Church might be struck by our loving behavior and realize the shame of what they are doing - and be converted!
What hatred? I said I was sadden. Sadden and hatred are two different emotions.
I don’t mean to say that you’ve purposely acted with hate, but honestly - if I read over this thread (the entire thing), and I were protestant, I would be convinced by now that you as well as a few other people who’ve been posting here hated me.

I would feel, if anything, pushed away from the Church because I couldn’t get a loving answer to my many questions (when I was converting, I was lucky to have the singly most patient person in the universe answering my questions and objections - I would never have gotten to the Easter Vigil without his loving explanations and gentle guidance).

I would feel discouraged from asking people questions, I would decide to continue hating Marian devotion in my heart (if I had disliked it to start with) but never seek the reason why people practice it, and I would be in a worse place than where I started. I would be too uncomfortable to ask why people do things or to let them know what I had been (mis)taught.

I would be one of those who really would “leave [you] alone with [your] private devotions”, and I would never again ask a question concerning that devotion because I would be too afraid to do so.

Pax Christi,
Esther Rose

I don’t get it. Since Catholic devotion prayers is a private matter that the Church does not require its faithful to pray but recommends it for spiritual, why don’t Protestants just leave us alone with we pray the rosary or the the Divine Mercy Chaplet? It’s our devotion, it’s not theirs. Nor it is none of their business.
Because they think these are mandated by the Church. they don’t understand what a private devotion is, much less care.

I’m just using you for an example, peary, so please don’t take offense.

There is a way to reword this.

“Because they think these are mandated by the Church. they don’t understand what a private devotion it.”

Period. End of sentence.

Don’t just assume negative intentions, even if they appear to be obviously present they may not actually be there. It may be a innocent ignorance, a nescience of sorts.

My advice: inform them. lovingly.

Then you’ve done your bit. leave it alone. if someone else approaches you, do it over.

You have a good heart, Rose. You’re a peacemaker. I wish I had your…hmm…loving patience? Whatever it is, it’s people like you who keep people like me in check.

ps - I don’t mean to be hard on you in particular, Manny. It’s not just you, it’s the whole tone of this thread, which it (the thread) has taken on through the ventilating frustration that is clearly palpable in many posts, posted by many posters.

I am sorry for singling you out like that, I shouldn’t have done so. I didn’t mean to imply that it’s just you doing this, or that you’re doing it frequently even. That was just me jumping on one statement to make an example.

Again, I’m sorry. Please accept my apology?

Because they feel they have to save your soul and convert you to their way of thinking and believing and doing which is according to them the path to salvation, and if you don’t convert and change you will be damned to hell forever and ever. Come to think of it, it kinda reminds me of catholics 😉

Well then, is it my imagination that you make thread after thread of pointed questions not intended to gain answers, but to insult and demean Protestants and their way of thinking and worshipping? What is your sole purpose for this behavior? Many of my relatives are Protestants and they are some of the most Godly people I have ever known in their faith and in their works.

I have fellow co-workers in the US Army here and by far, they are better than some Protestants that I know in here who would spread lies and attack the Catholic Church.

I don’t what it is. To me Protestants in the Military seem to tolerate Catholic beliefs than those not in the military. The behavior of some Protestants in this forum mainly (former Catholics) are rather hostile to us.

…I don’t understand…

…is this a hey, lets bash protestants so that any who are here will be afraid to dialogue with Catholics in the future?

…how should we as Catholics respond when our fellow Christians do not understand the purpose of a Hail Mary or other such prayer?

…can’t we just explain it to them nicely, and be secure enough in our faith to not be significantly bothered by it?

…if they still don’t get it after our explanation, oh well. at least we tried, in a friendly manner, and maybe one day they will understand.

until then, all we can do is pray :crossrc: for them 😉
you can ask them why dont they do it too?

what do you expect from those who left for ignorance of the faith? obviously they been deceived and misinformed. God bless.

I expect them to learn our faith and understand them and not insist that we got it wrong. That is what I expect from Protestants.

i believe all started in the Garden when the serpent appeared to Eve and of course the serpent came as nice as could be and deceived Eve by saying that God had lied to them. puting doubts in the mind of Eve. that is how the devil works putting doubts in our minds. stand fast to the traditions given to us by the Apostles written and orally.

It’s not just Protestants,
I knew a druid (he calls himself a druid) on a discovery forum and he was a real jerk I’ll tell you. It turns out his sister divorced and the Catholic Church deemed it wrong, because it should have been annulled. His sister is depressed and sad so now he takes his anger out on the church picking up poor info from anti Catholic sources and spreading it. I do the best I can to stand up to lies and poor info but I kept forgetting It’s 14 year me against a 40 year old man who will stop at nothing to hate the church. So I did the next best thing. I told the mods that the “Lost Tomb of Jesus”(where this took place) forum was of no use and people just come on there to attack other faiths and that some other people and I were tired of it. So now they made it a “read only” forum. Yes he still hates the church but now I’m glad he won’t be spreading any lies and junk on that forum. Disagreeing is fine but attacking is wrong.

Manny, I believe that if anyone disagrees with Catholic doctrine or simply does not share your same opinion, you immediately take the position and assumption that they are attacking you or are spreading lies about the church.

But why? You are very vehimate about not wanting anything to do with theirs and are constantly pointing out what is wrong with Protestantism. Why should they care about yours?
