Religious Reasons:
- Animal sacrifices are imperfect, so much that they are now an abomination. They are no longer desired, a greater, perfect sacrifice was needed.
“To what purpose do you offer me the multitude of your victims, saith the Lord? I am full, I desire not holocausts of rams, and fat of fatlings, and blood of calves, and lambs, and buck goats” - Isaias 1:11
- The Son is the perfect sacrifice to the Father, which complements the point made above. That is why we call Christ the Lamb of God. The perfect sacrifice to the Father.
“And beholding Jesus walking, he saith: Behold the Lamb of God.” - John 1:36
- The Temple is merely an earthly figure of this world. Christ came and told us that his kingdom was not of this world, but of the next. Building a Temple is not necessary for the Kingdom.
“Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence.” - John 18:36
- The new “temple” is the members of the Body of Christ. The people of God are the Temple, not a building.
“Know you not, that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” - 1 Corinthians 3:16
Plus there’s also a really good practical reason. Two of the most important mosques stand on the Temple foundation. Knocking them down would probably cause World War III. However the Spiritual reasons should suffice.
