The first temple was built by Salomon under the guidance of God. When the Jews turned away from God, the temple was destroyed during the Babylonian conqueror. The Jews went back to God, and the temple was rebuilt under Ezra and Nehemia. That temple was destroyed again in 70AD by the Roman. Even after 1939 years and the Jewish has become a nuclear weapon owner, they can’t rebuild their temple. Does it mean they have not turn back toward God?

They can’t build the temple, because as the psalms say, unless the Lord builds up, in vain do the builders build. The new and everlasting temple is Jesus. He is the presence of God among us, therefore the Jews will not succeed in building a temple.

Is it that they “can’t”? Or won’t as they’d tick off the nearby Muslims? What with their lovely holy place being conveniently located?

I have heard there are moves to do so. I also believe some fundamentalist Christians see a temple rebuilding program as one of the signs of the “end times”, although I’m not sure what they base that on. Sometimes I get the impression that some of them want a third temple built to hasten Christ’s return.

It reminds me of an Australian atheist’s comment, when oddly enough he was asked to address a meeting of fundamentalist pastors, that they were the only ones looking forward to Armageddon.

To build a third temple, they’d have to level significant Moslem structures. I could hardly think of a better way to inflame the entire Middle East.

From Wikipedia -

"Building a Third Temple

Ever since the Second Temple’s destruction, a prayer for the construction of a new Third Temple has been a formal part of the thrice-daily Jewish prayer services. However, the question of whether and when to construct the Third Temple is disputed both within the Jewish community and without; groups within Judaism argue both for and against construction of a new Temple, while the expansion of Abrahamic religion since the 1st century CE has made the issue contentious within Christian and Islamic thought as well.

Furthermore, the complicated political status of Jerusalem makes initiation of reconstruction presently difficult, while the traditional physical location of the historic Temple is presently occupied by the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock."

Something that many people forget:

The Temple was basically a glorified slaughterhouse.

Some people, especially pop-evangelicals, seem to think think that it was a site for revivals and cantatas.

The Third Temple will be the Temple of Antichrist.

Do you REALLY want to live to see that built? I don’t.

I’m almost afraid to ask t why do you feel that “The Third Temple will be the Temple of Antichrist”?

This is the Christian understanding of the situation before Christ returns, based on passages in Revelation and elsewhere.

One need not be a dispensationalist to believe this.

That’s a fine way to talk of it, eh? I mean, what are we doing on our altars but joining into that most perfect of sacrifices and terrible of slaughters?

Besides, one of the reasons God demanded we burn up things was so that we might send “A pleasing scent unto the Lord.” Perhaps God was the original BBQ fan? I myself don’t see why, fully aknowledging the fullness of Christ’s sacrifice, we need not send Our Lord some pleasing smells.

There are several possibilities:

a) the economy, too expensive right now
b) not enough slaves to lift the giant bricks
c) Hezbollah would blow it up anyway
d) Solomon isn’t here to tax the pants off every Jew to build it like he did last time
e) it was in the Jewish economic stimulus plan but they chose to build walls to keep Palestinians out instead
f) shortage of chisels, mortar, gigantic bricks, and cranes
g) as another poster alluded to, the whole Satanic angle and anti-christ thing is a turn off:p:D

Well, I don’t know whether I can response to your posting. But :

a) They are rich and many rich Jewish all over the world will help, will they not?
b) They can import cheap Indonesian/Bangladesh or other poor third world labors, can’t they? They can provide the jobless Indonesian for jobs so they can forget blowing up the westerners and our/my own country.
c) Their army especially backed up by Uncle Sam can turn the Hezbollah away, can’t they?
d) Their current government can tax the modern Jewish, am I correct?
e) Their people can turn away their current leader and Parlements by electing any Jewish who support the rebuilding of the temple rather than building a new Berlin wall, can’t they?
f) They can trade away their weapons or other assets for required building materials, can’t they?
g) They can close their ears and hardened their heart, since they have done so for so many years since the day when Jesus was with them in the first century.

Who knows that given the modern technology they can rebuild their temple in 2 days (beating Jesus’ claim by 1 full day).

There is actually a growing movement among the Jewish people (not Protestants) working toward rebuilding the Temple. The Temple Mount Institute is one such movement. They are making a case, based on underground sewer systems that the original Temple would have been located right next to the Dome of the Rock rather than in the exact spot as the mosque. For the Jewish people, it is vital that the Holy of Holies be situated exactly where it used to be. Building on the “new” location would allow for the rebuilding of the entire Temple, with the exception of the Court of the Gentiles - Revelation alludes to this.

They have gone so far as to to build all the items that would be required for inside the Temple - the lavers, the Ark of the Covenant, the lampstands, etc.

I believe it is the Temple Mount Institute web site that has audio you can listen to of rabbis debating for the “new” location. Some also make their case that, rather than Messiah building the Temple, the Temple must be built before Messiah will return.

It is fascinating, if you have the time to look into it. 🙂

**And you think God’s senses things the way humans do?

Anyway, what do you think incense is all about?**

It is interesting for me to think that where from the Thorah that Moses got the idea of having burning sacrifice to God?

It is the building of the temple that isn’t the problem Any one can build something. And if they built the temple without the outer court( which is what scripture indicates is directed) there is room on the temple mount.

The problem comes in that there are so many other items that must be done exactly as the instructions given, by God, and so many items , such as dyes, and herb are (or thought0 to be extinct. Even having a Levite was a problem , since the records of who was of what tribes was lost.

Ah, but God has a way where there is no way. The 'cohen" gene was discovered, letting them identify the levites. (strangly the largest number is amongst the ethiopians of all places and finding them is a whole other amazing story). The the recipe (oils containing certain herbs) was lost. But then they discovered a completely sealed undamaged marked flask with the stuff. So now they got the recipe. Then , of course, some of the herbs no longer exist. But, then they find jars with seeds of the herbs, centuries old, yet they germinated them and they now grow.

Then the tools to work with had to be fashioned. exactly fashioned. The gold sacred items made. The exact linen grown. the looms to weave the cloth and make the garments exactly right. The young boys raised from infants who feet( i believe) never touch the dirt.

Some of this stuff was found when they found the dead sea scrolls, in the 1950’s, which lead them to a 'copper scroll" which gave them directions and instructions.

And there is much talk about a “room” deep below the temple mount where it is said the ark of the covenant was hidden. The room exists.

As christians, as catholics, we must learn to appreciate all this. What is Written will happen. Nothing has changed. Prophecy must be fullfillied and need not be feared.it will in no way diminsh Christ as we know Him. In fact, it points to His kingship, king of kings and Lord of lords. and He will sit upon David’s Throne.

We, Christians, are the Bride of Christ. But, God will have a wife, and He has chosen the jews to be His. Scripture says that. It does not make us less important. All it means is that, while the plan for our salvation is completed, the completion for the jews is yet to be.

To appreciate the jews, and what is in store, makes me a better catholic.

Oddly enough, the prophecy of the third temple comes not from Revelation but from the second chapter of Thessalonians. Here it is:
1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,

2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
The man of lawlessness (antiChrist) must come before the return of Christ. For him to take his seat in the temple of God, there must first be a temple. That is why there is so much interest in the building of a third temple. It must happen before Christ returns.

Some of us think that the exact location of the original temple is beneath the dome of rock, controlled by the muslims. Does it mean that we owe to the muslims about the incoming of the antiChrist?

The Dome of the Rock is on the location of Solomon’s temple. When it was destroyed, the second temple was rebuilt on the same location, *i.e., *Mount Moriah where Abraham brought Isaac to sacrifice him to God. It is a holy place and it would be difficult to conceive of the third temple being built anywhere else. Unfortunately, and this is where it gets messy, the Dome of the Rock has to go before the new temple can be built. This will of course mean all out war by all the Moslem countries against Israel.
