Why can't women simply say "I'm not interested." to men?

I have never had this happen. Far more common is when you say you’re not interested the guy responds with “Oh, well what’s wrong with me?” or even “What, you think you’re too good for me?”
Those kinds of responses reveal more about the guy’s character and the way he views himself than it reveals about the woman, in this instance. It’s never rude or conceited to decline and anyone who thinks so has issues.

How do you know in advance what kind of guy you’re dealing with? Why not use kid gloves with everybody and play it safe?

With the second one, she could have changed her mind about dating co-workers
Most likely because the individual involved is what swayed her decision. It all goes back to the individual, which indicates it was never really about her rule but about the person involved.
between the time your friend asked and when she went out with the other coworker. It wasn’t like there was only a 15 minute gap between the two events.
True, but it looks dishonest (“scandal”). Usually people don’t change their minds on things like this either unless they’ve been given some kind of incentive that swayed their decision.
Also, maybe the full answer was, “I don’t go out with co-workers unless I think it has long term potential.”
This is giving a reason. No one has to give a reason and I don’t think the OP was about that. It was about being direct. One can be direct without giving any reasons for declining whatsoever.

Also, if she added the “unless I think it has long term potential” piece, how could she reasonably reject him for a first date if she has absolutely no idea if there is long term potential? The only way to find out is to try, right? This is where the waters become muddy and dishonesty and illogic take over and men who are direct and literal can become frustrated by being in such a situation as the one I’ve described.

If you want to sleep with lots of women, take the advice of these friends of yours (and online blogs on how to pick up women, etc.

If you want a wonderful marriage - a meaningful lifelong friendship and a fulfilling sexual relationship - take the advice of people here.

**If you choose the former, which I hope you do not, please stop posting your questions here. None of us wants to help you pick up women and use them for sex. ** If you want our help in finding a wife, we are more than happy to offer advice based on Catholic principles and personal experience.
👍

YES! ! ! !

Thank you.

CaliLobo, You have posted numerous times about wanting to find a wife. That time is running out. But then you post on threads like this.

I’ve come to the conclusion that you aren’t looking for a wife. You are looking for another notch on your belt.

And I don’t think anyone wants to help you with that.

If he makes her skin crawl, then there’s no long term potential.

If he reminds her of her baby brother or the guy who sexually assaulted her, there’s no long term potential.

Why overanalyze this stuff? If somebody isn’t interested, just move on.

I don’t see why a simple “Thanks for the offer, but no thanks” wouldn’t suffice in such a situation?

If you want to say “because there’s no long term potential” then you’ll have to logically follow that out. If you’ve never dated someone, how can you judge such a person and say they have no long term potential?

I agree btw, I personally would just move on but I can definitely see how people who have low tolerance for nonsense would become irritated.

Because in most cases if she doesn’t give a really good reason, he won’t take no for an answer.

Because if the guy reminds someone of their weird high school math teacher, chances are they know that there is no long term potential.

Nonsense is thinking that unless someone has a good reason, they have to say yes.

** “Thanks, but no thanks,” is actually pretty rude.

People aren’t good at thinking on their feet, and a lot of people automatically go for the white lie, believing it’s “nicer”.

I don’t care for the white lie myself (being a rather literal and hyper-truthful person myself), but I do believe in the all-purpose utility of “Oh, I’m busy that night.” That’s always true, even if what I mean is, “I’m going to be arguing with strangers on the internet that night.”

Do you ask a lot of 400-pound women out? You know, they might have great long-term potential.

That’s a win-win, then. They’ve just figured out that they’re not compatible, with no time or money spent on a date.

I do not think at all that dominance is the word you are looking for. That speaks to me of sinful nature.** It does NOT glorify God.** Jesus never expressed dominance- not even when they were nailing Him to a cross. Leadership, yes. Dominance, no way. Dominance is "lording it over " someone. Jesus did not mean for us to “lord it over” people

Leadership, on the other hand, is I think what Jesus wants. Lead people to Christ. Be solid. Be firm. Be unwavering… that is a man’s strength, besides being protective and providing for that of what needs and should be protected and provided for.
:yup:

Leadership is indeed the more technically correct term for it; I chose my words to match the terminology of the linked article.

This is judging a book by its cover. Superficial and shallow. And like Xantippe said earlier, “She could change her mind.” The thing is, once you start to give reasons and the guy starts to offer around them to make it work out, the lie becomes more and more exposed anyway. Logically speaking, looks are not a great indicator of long term potential. Judging a a person as not having potential without knowing them is kind of dumb.

But Im not a fan of giving any reason. A “no” should suffice and if the guy has a problem with that, then thats on him.

I agree, not sure if anyone made that claim in this thread.

Yep, it is judging a book by its cover. It happens every day and to pretty much everyone.

If I can’t stand to look at someone because they remind me of my 7th grade math teacher, then there isn’t anything anyone can do about. The guy was a perv. Nowadays, he would end up on charges. Back then, girls just stayed away from him.
But Im not a fan of giving any reason. A “no” should suffice and if the guy has a problem with that, then thats on him.

Yes, a “no” should suffice. But when I was dating, I found that “no” was meaningless. A woman basically had to come up with a “good” reason.

Yeah pretty much this. I don’t think anyone in this thread has suggested that someone has to say yes. But a few of us have reported men getting aggressive and demanding when not provided a reason.

Honestly I think our whole culture has romanticized “persistence” to the point where there’s no good way for a woman to say no.

Actually, here’s what I used to do if a guy expressed interest in me and I wasn’t interested in him. I would say, “How do you feel about Rush Limbaugh? I really, really like him!” 🙂

And then the guy would turn and run for the hills. 👍

So looking back, I guess the reason I didn’t get married was because for some reason I seemed to attract Liberals.

Anyways, all part of Divine Providence, eh?

Don’t want to derail the thread, but it does seem that since the advent of social media and the W. Bush presidency, the USA is much more divided and segregated along party lines, including in dating and friendships.

I think it has filtered down to the lower classes. I remember that in the 70’s there was some intellectual who quipped in the NY times “No one I knew voted for Nixon” which could be seen as that they didn’t hang with Conservatives or that they didn’t mix with more middle class folks who supported Nixon. I’m sure now most people are becoming the same way especially since Bush. I’m sure many progressive types would die before even talking to a conservative about anything other than to change them or vice versa.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but many women have a hard time telling men pursuing them, in black and white, that they are not interested.

Is it because women are so full of themselves that they think the man is going to be destroyed if she tells him this?

Why do women think it’s okay to string men along or drop hints about their lack of interest that men are just supposed to “get it” without her saying anything simple and clear?

No,sweetheart,it isn’t because women are so full of themselves, but I have had men be incredibly rude to me for not being interested and one even - in a nightclub years ago - asked if I was a lesbian, and also had a boyfriend threaten suicide if I left him.So it’s not about women always being full of themselves.

Yes, darling, this thread was very helpful in me learning about the womenfolk. So was that other thread about why women view you as dead if the love is gone.

It is so sad that most of your social experiences appear to be around bars full of drunken men. I would suggest you may find a less aggressive male population away from the drinking holes of England. Come to Australia where men are men and women are afraid. Only kidding, but your examples, whilst real, show only one sort of man. The real gentlemen, of which there are a large number in Australia, understand the nuances of women’s softer responses. It is up to the man to continue the repost until final rejection, which always puts a lady into discomfort. Thus discretion is often the better form of valour to a true gentleman, and this is why women often get left with the more aggressive male who sometimes do not make the best of husbands.
My advice to women is not to look for their spouse in a pub, and do not reject the vacillations of a gentleman, he may just need the gentle shove of a gentle women.
You can experience drunken men like this anywhere, not just in bars.I have had a similar experience on a bus.
