As a tool with which to manifest Himself into the material world?

Why would a God who knows all things in all ages create a being so troubled as man? Our violence against one another, our greed and our history of inhumanity to man are enough that we can be repulsive even to ourselves so how much more repulsive to God must our fallen civilization be? Why would an all knowing God create such a beast as man?

Isaiah 43:7 tells is that we were made for God’s own glory. We know however, from the history of our species that even by our lower human standards, we have failed miserably to glorify our Creator. We also know from Isaiah 55:11 however, that God’s word shall go out from Him and shall not returned unfulfilled. So when God says we were created to glorify him, we can count on it happening as it is written. God’s word is alive with truth and power beyond our small ability to comprehend. If God says He created us to glorify him, then so shall we do, regardless of how impossible it may seem from our small human perspective.

Sometimes I think it’s so that he can laugh at us while we’re in hell or something.

Like another answer said, God created us to be His children. We were not meant to be on earth but things had to be changed after Adam and Eve disobeyed God. This life is only a journey we are on until we return to our eternal home with God.

This was Question #3 in the good old “Baltimore” Catechism I learned as a boy:

Q. Why did God make us?
A. God made us to show forth His goodness and to share with us His everlasting happiness in heaven.

I still think that pretty much sums things up…

God created us out of love, i order to love and be loved.

When I was a kid this is what I learned nearly 50 years ago (from the Westminster Catechism):

From memory -

*Why did God make you?

God made me to know him, love him, and serve him in this world and be happy with him forever in the next.*

God did not create us for utilitarian motives to simply be “tools”. He created us out of his infinite love to be his children.
Well I didn’t mean it be as cold as it might sound. Maybe a poor choice of words on my part.

It don’t think creating us for the purpose manifesting himself into the material world necessarily precludes love. I worded it badly. God can create us for that purpose (or another purpose) and still love us.

Okay. 🙂

I would say that love is the primary purpose. Manifesting Him is the added bonus. 🙂

Another possible reason for our creation is that G-d wanted to share His love with us. However, the argument is made that too many people suffer during this lifetime although perhaps in the afterlife they eventually attain heaven where they spend eternity with G-d. Still, the question arises why the journey of suffering to begin with? A purification process perhaps? Yet another reason, given by some in Judaism, is that G-d depends on us to make the world a better place, which He created somewhat imperfect. It is through our good deeds toward one another that we achieve not only our own betterment but the betterment of the world. Each act of loving-kindness we emit helps form a more perfect universe.

The history of man shows us that we are great failures when we go our own way, separate from God’s.

God made us to flourish when we are in communion with Him. As Chesterton said:

G.K. Chesterton — ‘The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.’

I think it presumptuous of man to think that he can understand God’s reason for doing anything. I’m not sure that we would understand it if we knew it. We might not even recognize it as a reason.
It may be something as off the wall as comic relief. I figure he needs a laugh now and then and we can certainly provide that.

I think God created us as a part of his own presence in the material world. God manifests Himself into the material world through us. We don’t do a very good job of carrying out that mission but I do believe we’re slowly getting better at it. Our ineptness at it is the reason for the suffering, but still we are very slowly making the world a better place in a two steps forward, one step backward kind of way.

And using us to manifest himself could easily be called an act of sharing his love with us.

I think it’s okay to think on these kinds of things. I didn’t mean to present God’s reasons for creating man as my personal proven knowledge.

Isaiah pretty much tells us anyway. It’s mostly about how the verse in Isaiah is being accomplished.

Actually; pretty much the opposite:) man was created in order to share their love for God.🙂

Isaiah 43: 7 & 21
“And every one that calleth upon my name, I have created him for my glory, I have formed him, and made him.” & " This people have I formed for myself, they shall shew forth my praise"

WHY? Because on all of Creation, man alone is gifted with the ability to know, to love, to serve and to fully OBEY God. That then because the reason for man’s existence and the right use of our intellect, minds and freewill’s.👍

God Bless you,
Patrick
