Why did Jesus did not marry?

After 50 years of blindly obeying religious dogma I began to ask questions and to look at things with an open mind. <—You’re open minded…REALLY?!

I may not be saved because of my beliefs.

Here is what I believe:

Peace, Love and Humanity for ALL people is what the gospel of Jesus is about. <—Christians already know Christ is about Peace, Love and Humanity for ALL people. Did you really think anyone needs you to explain that to them? It’s actually safe to assume that it’s Christians who first taught this to you. A person who is sincerely devoted to this philosophy is a Christian and therefore incapable of rejecting Jesus. He does not have to belong to a particular church or any church at all. People accuse me of being deceptive.

Craving for power, status, materialism, sexual gratification causes suffering. <—Everyone knows that too…it’s old knowledge. Do you have anything new?

I do not believe the Crusades and the Inquisition were works of God but the works of people who thought they could understand God’s mind. Would Jesus have approved of people being tortured in some of the most depraved ways the human mind can conceive?

I don’t go to church regularly because they have become social clubs / popularity clubs where hypocrites pretend to be good Christians for an hour and then go back to worshiping the flesh of ego, selfish pride and indifference to others. It is these same hypocrites who act as if THEY wrote the Bible and have the power to decide my fate in the afterlife. <—Can we take that little scree as an example of your aforementioned open mindedness?

I believe there are two states of mind- God Consciousness and Worldly Suffering.

I believe Heaven is not for when we die and face God’s judgment. We are facing it now and this is why remaining in a state of constant God Consciousness is important. **Yes I know, it is not “Catholic” to think like this. ** <—REALLY…Catholics don’t believe in being conscious of God? Do you think I’ll be able to find lots of Catholics who agree with that?

At least the 10 Commandments were given to Moses directly by God in a timely manner. The Bible on the other hand was put into book form over 300 years after the resurrection. The gospels of the other seven apostles were omitted because according to the council of Nicaea they were “heresy and the work of the devil”. I am not making this up. You can research it for yourself. I can not help but feel that some things got lost in translation.
Christ is about Peace, Love and Humanity for ALL people AND much, much more.

You spend a lot of time on stuff that people already know, which is common for people who just recently figured that stuff out for themselves. Just because you just figured something out doesn’t mean other people need you to teach it to them. It’s sounds like you were the one who was late comer to stuff that most people already knew for most of their lives.

Regarding this scree…
I don’t go to church regularly because they have become social clubs / popularity clubs where hypocrites pretend to be good Christians for an hour and then go back to worshiping the flesh of ego, selfish pride and indifference to others. It is these same hypocrites who act as if THEY wrote the Bible and have the power to decide my fate in the afterlife.
You sound a lot like me…when I was about 14 years old blathering on about other people in all of my adolescent wisdom:rolleyes: First of all, it shows that you’re aforementioned open mindedness is nothing more than ridiculous joke. The reality is that you’re not even qualified to judge the quality of someone else’s Christianity. You don’t know if they’re “worshiping the flesh of ego, selfish pride and indifference to others” and I’ve yet to meet a Christian who acts like he wrote the Bible.

When I was on this scree as a child, it sounded good as an excuse for not going to Church. Friends of mine going through the same phase would later admit the same thing. If you’re over 50, you’re decades late in just growing up.

The fact that you don’t go to Church regularly is not the fault of all these other people whom you judge as hypocrites and you’re not qualified to say if they’re pretending or not. When these types of blanket accusations come up, it’s usually safe to presume that it’s just a case of projection, as in “I don’t want to be here so everyone else must not want to be here either so I’ll ignore my own unwillingness and accuse them of hypocrisy to cover up my own”

And even if you really believed that…so what?! Why does that have to keep you from going to Church more regularly…IF…that’s what you wanted to do in the first place? Blaming others for one’s own shortcomings is hardly the behavior one would expect from someone over 50 years old. And why are you so worried about all those other people in the first place? Are you going there merely to make yourself feel superior by looking down your nose at all those lesser-Christians?

If YOU were in Church for the right reasons maybe you’d be too busy with God to be looking around making all your judgments anyway.

I just want to know when WHEN he became a Rabbi. It is true he was called a Rabbi by his followers but did this happen long before he was 30? I know this sounds trivial.

I also want to know what happened to the missing years of Jesus from age 12 to 30. At age 12 he got separated from his parents for three days while in Galilee and he was found teaching in a temple.

When found he said to his parents that he needed to be about his father’s work. <—What verse is that? To me this means he was **now **starting his ministry. Maybe THIS is when he became a Rabbi. Then there is nothing else about Jesus until age 30 when he tells his parents again that he needs to be about his fathers work.

There is nothing mentioned about him teaching to people from age 12 to 30 or anything else for that matter for those 18 years. **Keep in mind that this was the most important person to walk the earth and there is an 18 year gap in his life.
**
Just curious.
What verse was that?

It is in Luke 2: 39-52.

Now I have something to say to YOU Babalon is Falling. The hatred, rage and disgust seething from you is unbelievable! You are so righteous in everything aren’t you?

Yes! Tear apart with a vengeance anyone who has a question or opinion which you may disagree with. You need to take a good look at yourself in the mirror. You are consumed with anger and love to insult.

It is people like you with your intense criticism and judgment that cause me to stay away.

God knows what is in my heart and mind better than you do.

Jesus chose to live as a virgin because He dedicated all His energy to His mission in this world, knowing it was to be short-lived. How could He have taken on the responsibility of a wife and children when He knew foxes have holes but the Son of Man would have nowhere to lay His head - and be put to death for preaching the Gospel of love?

Jesus Christ is of the Trinity. He is divine.

God in the flesh is a one time deal.

Well…that was certainly revealing:), thanks…
In your previous post we see this…
I don’t go to church regularly because they have become social clubs / popularity clubs where hypocrites pretend to be good Christians for an hour and then go back to worshiping the flesh of ego, selfish pride and indifference to others. It is these same hypocrites who act as if THEY wrote the Bible and have the power to decide my fate in the afterlife.
and right after making a scree like that we have YOU (of all people) raging on about OTHER people being judgmental/critical?! Are you REALLY unable to see what’s wrong with that picture? This is what happens when you’re so anxious to look down your nose at other people that you end up in Church thinking you’re qualified to judge everyone around you as “worshiping the flesh of ego, selfish pride and indifference to others” or “hypocrites who act as if THEY wrote the Bible and have the power to decide my fate in the afterlife”. You end up morphing into something very comparable to what you judge others to be.

Have you ever asked yourself WHY it’s so important for you to be denigrating others like that?

Regarding your ongoing need to excuse your low Church attendance by blaming other people, calling them hypocrites, claiming they act as if THEY wrote the Bible, that they worship the flesh, pretend to be good Christians, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseam, my former response still holds…

There is a bright side to your behavior though. By trying to blame others for your low Church attendance, you inadvertently show everyone that you yourself at least understand that it’s a negative thing, otherwise you wouldn’t be making excuses in the first place, much less excuses that conveniently:rolleyes: place responsibility for onto someone else. In other words you continue to show that you at least know you should be in Church more, so even you aren’t really buying into your excuses, the excuses aren’t working, even in your own mind.

That means you leave yourself no realistic alternative but to return to Church more often and once that happens maybe you’ll be able to focus on your own shortcomings rather than look down at others and try to make yourself feel superior buy making judgments that your aren’t really qualified to make in the first place. Looking down on others clearly isn’t working any more than the excuses are. I guess little by little, your eliminating the things that don’t work until you’re eventually left with the One that does work.

You’re over 50 years old now so try not to blame others for not going to Church. Your decisions are your own responsibility and besides, the excuse doesn’t work anyway, we all know your not so good that you can’t handle being around all those lesser Christians:rolleyes: Remember you’re not supposed to be going to Church to look down your nose at others in the first place.🙂

Take care…

He might have been - we have no idea what he did for almost 30 years. As far as I know, there is no dogma of the “never married Jesus”.

Gee, as far as I know, there is absolutely no dogma of a ‘married at some point Jesus’.

We can make sensible judgments…
We can presume He prayed a lot, didn’t practice offer incense to idols, didn’t drink excessively, etc etc etc. We don’t need the Bible to comment on these things in order to reasonably presume them.

We can also presume that as God, He cared nothing for the idea of marrying a human.

It doesn’t need to be provable to be reasonable.

I agree - no one knows anything about it and the church does not require us to believe either way. Proving a negative in history is pretty difficult. As John Meier states in A Marginal Jew, Rethinking the Historical Jesus, " the place and meaning of celibacy in his life before the beginning of the public ministry are questions that go beyond what our sources allow us to know. Any further speculation crosses the border from historical hypothesis into novel writing." (*nihil obstat *and impimatur).

Insulting and sarcastic tirades never produce a good result.
I don’t blame others for my falling away so to speak. I have become a little disillusioned with people who not sincere in their faith. We can not have salvation and still cling to the things of this world.

I grew up in the 1960’s and 70’s when this country was going through a lot of turmoil. My mother ingrained into me that only a Priest administering the sacraments can get you into heaven and the church authority must never be questioned only obeyed because “it just is.” That never fully answered the questions I had.

I stumbled across a book called Living Buddha, Living Christ by Tich Nhat Hanh in which he said being a good Buddhist helped him be a better Christian. I won’t give my opinion on this but I will say that it helped SEE the world and the human condition better. Things were no longer like a flat stone skipping on the surface of the water.

His philosophy helped me endure and survive stage 3B colon cancer. It was not a death sentence when I was told what I had and what I was going to go through. I see the world much differently now but I am not expecting others to follow me.

Insulting and sarcastic tirades never produce a good result.<—The problem is that you engage in those “insulting and sarcastic tirades” (copied below) in one post and then after accusing others of doing you yourself do, you complain about the same thing that you yourself have done…get it now? And you’re the one calling other people hypocrites?! ***
I don’t blame others for my falling away so to speak.
<—Of course you do, I’ll paste those quotes below too with hopes that you’ll stop denying something so easy to prove.*** I have become a little disillusioned with people who not sincere in their faith. ***<—Like someone who fell away from their faith? Or should we assume you fell away from your faith whilst having a “sincere faith” *** We can not have salvation and still cling to the things of this world. That’s sounds very pious and good but the kind of stuff that been getting taught in Churches for centuries. So if you believe what you preach, why aren’t you back in Church where it’s taught so redundantly?

My mother ingrained into me that only a Priest administering the sacraments can get you into heaven and the church authority must never be questioned only obeyed because “it just is.” <—I went through that stuff too. It’s NOT some big traumatic experience that scars you for life, nor does it serve as a good excuse for not going to Church. That never fully answered the questions I had. <—Big deal…nobody has all their questions fully answered.

I stumbled across a book called Living Buddha, Living Christ by Tich Nhat Hanh in which he said being a good Buddhist helped him be a better Christian. <—buddhists might have better meditative techniques that could be applied to Christian life. That has nothing to do with falling away from one’s faith or not going to Church. I won’t give my opinion on this but I will say that it helped SEE the world and the human condition better. **Things were no longer like a flat stone skipping on the surface of the water. *****<—I’ve never heard things were like a flat stone skipping on water anyway. ***
Here’s the insulting and sarcastic tirade YOU posted just before accusing others of doing the same thing…
How can you call other people hypocrites or accuse them of being insulting or sarcastic after making a post like that, a post which demonstrates the exacting same behavior that you accuse them of? This is what I was talking about when I mentioned projection and becoming the same thing you complain about. Lots of people do it, I’ve done it too on the exact same subject when I fell away from Church. The difference is that lmost everyone recognizes the problem early on though and grows out of it, much, MUCH earlier than their fifties. Remember the more time you waste looking down your nose at people in Church, the less time you have to look in the mirror at yourself. Maybe that’s why you’re missing something about yourself that is so obvious to everyone else.

And here (in the same paragraph) is where you’re blaming other people for the fact that YOU don’t go to Church more often…

Since you’re now denying that you were blaming others, hopefully you’ll at least stop doing it in the future. When you assume responsibility for your own decisions, you always end up getting problems fixed LOTS faster.

You might want to stop pointing your finger at other people and talking about some lack of sincerity in their faith. Your not qualified to judge another persons faith. After all, it’s YOU who fell away remember? Why are you criticizing other peoples faith when you’re the one who fell away? And since you’ve said you’re not blaming others, it’s not their fault that you fell away, right? In my case it was my own fault when I fell away.

Important Question here: Who’s fault is it that YOU fell away?

I am sorry for my harsh remark. If you badger someone enough that is going to happen.
  1. You are not a Psychiatrist.
  2. You are very insulting and talk to me like I am a stupid child.
  3. You are making assumptions that are not so.
Other people reading your posts may be wondering where your sense of tact, love and compassion are. Did it occur to you that if I am thinking of coming back to the church that you may end up being the final nail in my coffin?

I think you misunderstood Tantum Ergo. She meant that to postulate that Jesus might have married at sometime is an error.

No, actually I think if I humored your attempt at blaming other people for your leaving the Church, I might be delaying your decision to return to the Church.

It’s not the Church’s fault you left, NOR is it the fault of someone else.

Here’s the question you failed to answer in the last post…
Who’s fault is it that you fell away?
Remember, you already said you weren’t blaming anyone else anymore.

I do not need to “come back” because in my heart and mind I never left. If I came across as blaming others I should have been more specific in saying that I have chosen a different path in my journey home to Heaven.

I belong among Buddhists and Hare Krishnas who are always in a state of bliss and happiness and who think about God constantly. Jesus was trying to teach us to have this same mindset but sadly this teaching has become dulled over the centuries.

Wishing everyone Om Nama Shivaya.

Signing off for the last time.
