Why did YOU leave The Church?

My experience of the Christian Divinity is through His people. “You are His hands, his mouth, his feet in the world” is the saying, correct? My experience of Christians has been one of anger, divisiveness, pettiness, and judgement.

Now, I have experienced Divinity, it all It’s wonder and glory, but my experiences also lead me to conclude that this Divinity cannot be the same one that I was taught growing up in a fundamentalist Catholic Charismatic home.
Human beings often make very bad representatives.

Catholicism didn’t do that to you. Catholics did.

"get out there!!" ** and the entire audience heard. ** I will never forget that.
But hopefully you forgave 🙂
Forgiving is hard I know.
I get angry fast and like to “fight back” I wish there was an easy way to just forgive and forget. but forgiving is enough. You don’t need to forget if you can’t.
I have trouble forgetting.

I chose “Other” because after years of Bible study in the original language and written contexts, i concluded that protestants were just as much heretics as catholics, because I beileve if one follows sola scripture only, or “bible only” then one could naturally only look more “jewish” and less “gentile” regardless of whether you were actually “gentile” or “jewish”

see, if ss or bo is right then

sunday is wrong
xmas is wrong
easter is wrong
pork is wrong
instruments in congregational worship are wrong
etc etc etc.

and from a historical tracing of that sort of theology we start out with one of the earliest xian sects- ebionites, and that continues today as islam mostly. see, protestants are heretical forms or heretical catholics. muslims are heretical ebionites. (meaning that they maintain large portions and dogma of the original faith but have substituted sometimes major “false” dogmas and such)

I simply lost faith that the teachings of the Catholic Church were guided by the Holy Spirit. And if the Church was simply a human institution, then it could be wrong on just about anything.

This leaves me in a quandary, as I think the traditional teachings of Christianity fall apart in the absence of the Church’s interpretations being infallibly correct. Human interpretations of the Bible, and the traditions that those interpretations have inspired, are simply human guesses. And even the Bible becomes suspect, since there is no reason to think that the books which were included in the Bible are any more inspired than the books which left out. And what does it mean to be “inspired” anyways? Since we can’t understand the Bible without interpreting it, don’t our understandings need some kind of Divine guarantee of being correct? But, without the Church, the interpretations of one person often conflict with the interpretations of others.
Very reasonable. And also very clear that you have never experienced the Holy Spirit in a hit-you-over-the-head-and-knock-you-down kind of way. My advice, if you can’t find some good Charismatic Catholics, is to get yourself to a good Assembly of God church. They’ll offer to baptize you in the Spirit. As a Catholic, you already have been, BUT it is necessary for some of us too-reasoning kind of folks to experience this for ourselves with adult clarity. Do it!

Don’t worry, if you’re a sensible, reasoning person, you’ll see the Holy Spirit filling the Catholic Church after that.

I love and thank my AOG friends for their “miracle” but, despite everything, I’m glad I’m Catholic.

OY!

Having grown up in a mostly Orthodox Jewish community, I can say with loving tongue in cheek that the Catholics are more Jewish than the Jews themselves.

8 day old circumcision → infant baptism
scripture & tradition → same
rabbi → priest
no pork → no meat on Fridays (not just during Lent)
Nowhere in the Bible does it say “Saturday”. We keep holy the Sabbath on the day Jesus rose from the dead.
As for Christmas and Easter - I totally thought these were human institutioins also, but check out “Star of Bethlehem” thestarofbethlehemmovie.com/ it is very eye-opening.

Believe me I only wish the best for you but a brotherly warning, don’t wait
when you’re in a “foxhole” facing a dreaded disease when you’ll cry - “Jesus
Lord, save me!”🤷
If Jesus was a merciful as Christians make him out to be, why wouldn’t he take the opportunity to heal me and make a convert?

I’d rather not. As soon as I do explain my experiences, I get labeled heretic, new ager, wolf in sheep’s clothing, etc. Sufficient to say that when I have experienced Divinity, it doesn’t fit into the neat categories that is comfortable to Christians (or even to me, to tell the truth).
Caution: There is Divinity but there is also Demonic.

The supernatural world is filled with pitfalls and horrors disguised as very beautiful things.

Unless you can claim perfect discernment, you are in great danger.

🙂 intresting website, ill take a look at it… I wasnt much for the Rabbis, so i realize that they woulnt of considered me Jewish as even when i was “ebionite” or “YHWHistic” I looked at the rabbis as smart commentators who while have the utmost desire to accurately worship God, are not inspired by God hence some of their dogmas are open to scrutiny.

true it doesn’t say Saturday but it says “seventh day” and in genesis it says “evening and morning were the first, second, etc.” hence calculating days going evening to evening versus morning to morning. so it seems to me that the seventh day starts on friday evening (As we would call it) and ends on Saturday evning, hence the first day of the week would actually start saturday evening. hence if paul says “i ate cherrios on the first day” he could mean 7:34PM saturday as we calculate, as opposed to 10:55am sunday morning. and when you consider that they would of already been gathered on the seventh day for worship, it would seem probable that they could of met religously right as evening came about on the seventh day starting the first day… just my brief theoretical take on it.

------------- of course to help make the comparisons even more

church=temple
altar=altar
holy of holies=tabernacle(where the excess host is stored)
temple had a light always on, catholci has light always on at altar
ark of the old, mary ark of the new.
etc…

Because He’s given us free-will…he wants us to love and be loved freely…and that includes you:D

I thought of something. The bishops (thinking Peter now) were out there doing that according to the bible.
Try to bump into a Bishop sometime. Good luck, they don’t even come around the parish I have been attending that much.

So he’s going to punish me because I don’t believe in Him, which will only make me not believe more? Sounds… logical. I guess.

You are asking for an explanation. I think it may be rather complicated…well, not complicated as much as I don’t know how to explain why.
Generally, it’s not the fault of any one institution, it’s just my beliefs tend to be at odds with most mainstream religions…

In a nutshell, I’m just really confused
;0D

Matt, of course you know by now, that without a doubt, I believe and accept every thing the Magisterium of the Apostolic Church teaches.
I do not believe that our separated brothers are going to burn forever if they do not find the whole Truth before they die.
You and they may not believe it, but they will find, in the “State”( the big “P”) after death, that place which prepares them for perfect unity with the Trinity which awaits them in the Kingdom of God, heaven forever. 🙂 So there:p!;)Peace, Carlan
Carlan, so you’re saying our separated brothers are going to be cleansed in Purgatory alongside some Catholics. 👍 What’s all the fuss then about? :)The only “could not be saved” folk are those who knew at one time and do not remain? 🤷 Peace to you too!

I can only say that the apostle Paul was afflicted but for whatever reason he was not healed. I’m unsure what was wrong with him but he mentioned it.

Yes, if he is he will punish some that do not believe yet possibly save some who are “invincibly ignorant”. Nice stuff that is.

Strange God you have, he heals some, doesn’t heal others. Mmmmmm. That reminds me of something… Skinner Behaviorism.:

“Variable schedules produce higher rates and greater resistance to extinction than most fixed schedules. This is also known as the Partial Reinforcement Extinction Effect (PREE)”

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinforcement#Schedules_of_reinforcement

Sounds like your God has rigged the game to make sure that y’all continue to worship It.
