SIA - would you state your religious affiliation, please?

If not, why not?

No need not to?
Then why haven’t you stated it in your public profile?
??? Must have been an honest oversight. I am proud to be Anglican as I stated in one of my threads here. It’s no secret nor would I want it to be. This is where I experienced the Holy Spirit.

What is Paul telling us then? I am quoting word for word. Can you do better?
He never says faith alone, that’s for sure. I don’t know where you guys got that idea, but not once does St. Paul say we are saved by faith alone. I’ll tell you what he does say though.
"For he [God] will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for thosewho are factious and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury. " - Romans 2:6-8

Hmmm. I see no faith alone nonsense here.

What else does the bible say? Well let’s see…
“You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.”
- James 2:24
In fact that only time the scriptures mention the term “faith alone” is to refute the idea that it is enough to save us.

Why do I hate this question: “Why do Baptists hate Catholics?”?

It’s based in stereotype and bias. That’s BAD news. (I’m Catholic.)
If you hate the question you must be appalled at some of the answers…as a Catholic convert from the Baptists I can say that I am. Interesting:shrug:

I guess my question says it all. I always find Baptists to have a deep hatred toward the Catholic Church. Why so? I thought their big break was with the Church of England or the Methodists, a coupla centuries ago in England.
Baptists have many faith teachings that differ from the Catholic Church’s teachings. One example is re-baptism.

But Baptists and Catholics really diverge on moral teachings. The things that cause sin. The things that can be a real cross.

Baptist teaching is largely silent about divorce and remarriage (adultry).

Then there’s the elephant in the room- contraception.

There are several elephants in the room, but the mother elephant is authority.

In regard to SIA saying that the Catholic church was responsible for the inquisition. First of all there were different types of inquisitions some were political and the one from the Catholic church was established to defend our faith. In regard to the inquisition that was done because of Muslim atrocities to Christians first and of their taking over Palestine. Are you stating that it was alright for them to do that to Christians first? And by the way what about Protestant atrocities against Catholics? And dont forget the Catholic church preserved Western civilization, if they didn’t you would be paying a tax to Muslims instead. It is people that think this way that will make it easy for Muslims to step in. Wake up.

I could just imagine how if radical Muslims were reading these posts and responses how they would laugh and gloat. Most people here are morons who could not tell who the real enemies and anti-Christs are.

I don’t equate wickedness with Christ and neither does Paul. Where do you come up with doing wickedness and having faith in Christ together. Paul never said that or meant it. Read Romans for God"s sake for what Paul is saying here. It’s very plain. And James for that matter was preaching to a totally different group of believers that were no where near as tuned to Christ as Paul’s crowds. It’s quite obvious why he had to focus upon works here. They wouldn’t have understood faith without also understanding works too.

not so. Jesus Christ didn’t found a denomination. I was a devout practicing (all sacrements) Catholic for decades. A cradle Catholic.
The Roman CC is not a “denomination”. There is only one Church and She is it…

I am a cradle Catholic also, but that doesn’t mean i was taught my faith because i WAS NOT… I taught myself… & rather late in life… 😦

Even so, before i knew all that i know today, i never once renounced the Church or went away from it… I think i instinctively knew way back then what i learned officially and intellectually…

Which makes me wonder: Wht is your real reason for leaving the Church… and what has taken Her place??

I do agree with historical evidence! It just doesn’t agree with you or your church. Does the Holy Word of God say that the church Jesus founded was the Roman Catholic church? I have yet to see a Bible, even a Catholic Bibile say that.
does the Bible use the words “Assembly of God” ? Does it use the term “Methodist” or “Lutheran”…

To me, this assertion means nothing… Many realities are contained in the Bible without using certain labels…

not only is he not telling us that we are saved by faith alone but in James we are specifically told that we are NOT saved by faith alone… “Even the demons believe and tremble”… Beleif by itself is worthless (“dead” as the passage says…)… james 2;12

As a former Baptist I’m going to let y’all in on a little secret: the reason that Baptists, traditionally, don’t like Catholics is because non of you “cradle catholics” can sing.😉 Seriously, what is up with the tone deafness at Mass?
Oh yea? Well, why do most white protestant congregations clap on one and three, while most black protestant congregations clap on two and four? (Musicians excluded of course) Hmmm… There may be a dissertation topic here. 😉

i think our reverence kinda gets in the way somehow…

(and no, i am not being sarcastic!! :hypno: ) 🙂

SIA…he “quoted” Romans… Where I see the problem…is that you may possibly be taking the BK approach to salvation… You can’t do that. Also, you apparently are very attached to the Pauline Theology…Uh-uh, no can do. Why? Cuz’ it just don’t work that way.

Oh, btw…you apparently got in a hurry or upset…I think you misread that passage…

Anyhooo, the very notion of merely being “saved by believing alone” is wrong…

Answer this question: Was Paul’s word greater than Christ’s?

Yes, I’m laying a “trap” for you…😃
