I am going to have to make a generalized statement of my experience:
I was raised Catholic and have been a practicing Catholic all of my life.
I have also made friends throughout my life of different denominations and been to their church service out of courtesy bc they have asked me too. I have been a few times to a few different ones.
Out of all the churches I found the Baptist to be the most critical and negative of other religions down to taking good time away from Sermon and Scripture and wasting time on being critical in the process…nothing Christian about that.
I believe that the presence of statues and the reading of the Gospel of the Lord being the majority of mention and not Biblical Scripture after Scripture in Mass are the put offs. However they do not know or understand that Adoration is the same thing and in my opinion just as devotional if not more than running around hysterically or semi-hysterically “on fire” for Christ. Also they do not understand Christening a baby bc they believe a baby has no conception of being Baptised by water and it should be a choice one openly makes with all of their heart before God.
What they do not understand is that we do that too, it’s called Confirmation. And I would say a 16 year old that chooses a mentor Saint has a better concept of that than a 7 year old being dunked in water. They do not understand that we pray through Saints for their intercession not to them as if they were God itself.
Baptists say Catholics can’t quote the Bible, that there’s not enough of it in our Church. A good Catholic and a good Christian are the same thing, because Christianity is the root of Catholicism. We can quote the Bible and we have prayers Baptists don’t even know about. Obviously they dont want to know about them because they believe they are right and we are wrong. Catholics are quieter and Baptists are louder, doesn’t mean Baptists love Jesus more, though most of them think the contrary.
So they think the Vatican is corrupt…it’s all about the money and the gold, and we practice idolatry…what’s the difference between the basket being passed through the pews, and a Baptist Pastor or Reverend running around whooping and hollering or giving a really nice motivational speech on putting the presence of God in your life and how God relates to every aspect of one’s being? Putting on a big show for “your” entertainment all in the name of GAWD, and then says, “Ok now we need YOUR money for this and that.” (Nevermind the Pastor is driving a luxury car and his wife looks life a trophy…dare I say statue!) I know Baptists that call their own church “Six Flags over Jesus”.
So what’s the difference between a “Cafeteria Catholic” that cant quote scripture and a “Back-Seat Baptist”…not much they leave Church and go right back out and do the same thing or worse…but there’s one small difference…atleast we Catholics’ are willing to admit it!
