I am working on becoming a Catholic myself, so this in no way is an anti-catholic thread. It surprises me the responses on these forums of Catholics loving Heavy Metal. There was this song by Morbid Angel named Blasphemy, and they were using SHEER BLASPHEMY against the holy SPIRIT. And they were praising Satan, and many on these forums just say “oh they don’t mean it”

A former satanist said these kind of music are satanically blessed before they are sent out to the masses. All I know is, I wouldn’t want that kind of energy coming into my home.

Here’s my question: Why do Catholics like heavy metal, bands like Morbid Angel who openly praise Satan?

They don’t. There is not a single Roman Catholic that takes their faith seriously who would listen to any song that contains blasphemy against our Lord. Period. If they do listen, and then claim to be Catholic, they are mistaken about one of the two.

I assure you, It is impossible for one to remain Catholic but support music that is blatantly blasphemous.

I would also point out it is impossible for something to be satanically “blessed”. A blessing is an act or word that makes an object or person holy. That is an oxymoron.

I mean a satanist put a demonic influence on the music.

KJ, there are a lot of people in Catholicism and also other Christian denominations that simply go through the motions or don’t get it.

Look at it this way. At any given time during the day, look at how many people are online here at CA. Compare that number to the number of Catholics worldwide. Only a very, very small % of Catholics post on forums. So we can’t really assume that those who do represent Catholics as a whole.

Also keep in mind that just because someone on a forum has Catholic listed as his/her religion, doesn’t mean it’s true beyond doubt. The internet is full of trolls and those stirring up trouble for fun.

KLJM12’s answer is spot on.

God Bless and welcome to the Church !

I listen to unblack metal, which is to say, black metal done by Christian artists. Horde, Hortor, and Frost Like Ashes are awesome bands. I also listen to Christian death metal bands like Becoming the Archetype, 7 Horns 7 Eyes, and Impending Doom. Then, there is Brutal Death metal Christian bands like Abated Mass of Flesh. No need to listen to garbage that glorifies Satan, when there is good music that praises Jesus.

I haven’t noticed that most young Catholics like or dislike heavy metal any more or less than any other group of young people. Maybe they just like the printed tee shirts?

Has there been a study done to show what percentage of the approximately 1.18 billion Catholics in the world like this type of music for you to make such a sweeping statement?

Everyone should know black metal is so passé today, it’s all about bands like Nox Arcana.

If you are into darker music Nox Arcana is nice because of: good singing, great music and amazing cover art (if they made vinyls I’d buy them to frame the covers). Their first Christmas Album had songs like “Veni, Veni Emmanuel”, “Conventry Carol”, “Gregorian Hymn” and “Carol of the Bells”. Also when you go to their site and buy their CDs you are supporting them and not demonic record companies.

i just listen to the Christian Metal-Core (not as heavy as heavy or death metal) and it’s all either talking about struggles and coming back to God or it simply is praising God.

Bands i listen to are: RED, Wolves at the Gate, War of Ages (all christian bands)

I will start off by saying that while some elements and bands in the metal community tend to be satanist (some black metal bands, for instance) not all metal bands are.

Just like with rock there are a very wide variety of different genres and subgenres of metal and the nature of the music in these genres varies wildly. Not all of it is satanic or even of satanic origin.

As for the music, it really boils down to personal musical preference.

When it comes down to it, the problem isn’t Catholics listening to metal music…the problem would be listening to those specific bands that sing of blasphemy or use blasphemous imagery in their music.

I am not against the right of people to listen to Heavy Metal. All I am asking is, if a band was singing “We praise satan” or something satanic like that, would you turn it off or say they didn’t mean it?

I’ve been a Catholic all my life, I can’t stand that kind of music. Not uplifting or inspiring at all.

I am a fan of heavy metal, but I’ve never liked the black metal or death metal genres (or nu metal/metalcore/emo/etc., but that’s the topic of another thread :p).

Very few bands (if any) could legitimately be termed “satanic”. Most of the bands that are so categorized don’t believe in the existence of God let alone the existence of Satan. They more or less use that imagery to make whatever point they are trying to make (or just to make people uncomfortable). That said, it still gives me the creeps. :o I wouldn’t choose to listen to it.

I am extremely skeptical of the assertion that any band consecrates their albums to the devil. I keep seeing that claim repeated over the internet, but never with any sort of substantiation. It seems like an urban legend to me.

Actually most popular music (whatever the genre) is inwardly satanic in some form. I believe it was a quote by Marylin Manson in one of his biographies that said country music is some of the most satanic music there is.

It’s all about the heart of the lyrics: songs written to be self-centered, woe-is-me, “my girl left and I might as well be dead” types of thoughts are anit-love, anti-hope–
hence satanic.

I used to listen to all types of metal/rock/pop music in my teen years, and looking back, I can see how it helped foster rebellion in me… seems strange, but very true.

Satan is real, but he’s the father of lies. If he can manifest his anti-theology in purely secular, non-outwardly evil ways, he’ll win souls exponentially more than through outwardly satanic “metal” music.

Check out this pastor’s interesting research on pop-music and the people behind it, specifically Freemasonry (he’s not Catholic, and he’s fire and brimstome, but the heart of his message is informative and eye-opening):

A fire and brimstone non-Catholic preacher on YouTube putting forth conspiracy theories about freemasonry and popular music? What could possibly go wrong? 😛

(I didn’t watch the video; I jest because I’m generally skeptical of random “[Music type X] is evil” videos from people I do not trust to make accurate assessments of such.)

Certainly, lots of things can draw us away from God. Even good things can do so when they become the focal point over and above God. However, I hesitate caling such things “satanic” as it just desensitizes us to the use of the word. People tend to tune us out when we use the word so liberally.

I totally understand… but, it’s actually the film of a half-day live conference that includes analysis of music videos for their satanic/occult/symbolism and content, much of which has been corroborated by Catholic occult experts who have been featured on The Drew Mariani Show on Relevant Radio.

If they did not mean it, they likely do not know what they are saying. :)😛

You mean that you belive Marylin Manson about ANYthing??? How do you know that the biography (and its writer) quoted Manson right?

As for country music as being satanic because it is ‘written to be self-centered, woe-is-me, “my girl left and I might as well be dead” types of thoughts’ Are you including such songs as Convoy, Around the World With the Rubber Ducky, Christmas Roses, Wasn’t That a Party? :bigyikes: :irish1: :shamrock2: :D: :knight1:
