Why do Catholics play the role of victim so much?

I don’t think that Catholics play the role of victim, unless it’s the victimization of the gas and electric companies!

I think that if anything, Catholics, in my age group, have to guard against feeling superior because the nuns taught us that we were members of the One True religion.

I had an acquaintance from Glasgow Scotland and she would sometimes try to high-hat the Catholics which I always found amusing, but beyond that one I have never been victimized or considered myself a victim.

In Catcher in the Rye, J D Salinger says that Catholics are always trying to find out if the person they’re talking to is Catholic.

I loved that book and I didn’t feel victimized by the observation.

No, the apostles were murdered and attacked in a lot of cases… how could anyone even equate having a protestant disagree with their catholic faith with what the apostles went through??? It’s ludicrous! So what, someone doesn’t like your faith, boohoo. If all they do is disagree or even mock then you are doing good. All you have to do is walk away or put the poster on ‘ignore’ to not see or hear it. Wait until someone stands over you with a gun to your head and asks if you believe in God, then you can talk about ‘taking up your cross’. I am sorry if I don’t agree that persecution has to do with someone mocking your faith. IMO this is NOT suffering. It is an annoyance but definitely NOT suffering.

We, especially americans, cannot even BEGIN to compare our lives with the apostles. We have it WAY too good. We can go in the middle of the busiest street and scream about God and how much He loves us and the worst you get is people thinking you are an idiot. You do that in some other countries and you get shot or dragged off to jail then executed… Please, no comparing yourself with the apostles who faced death for your Faith. We have the opportunity to freely express our Faith with those around us but we don’t - most of the time - because we are scared about how it will be perceived.

Take up our cross??? We don’t even come close to comparing to the apostles… We are standing next to our crosses, and some of us are expecting Christ to pick it up and carry it for us. We need to take a more active role and not expect Christ to do it all for us. In the midst of His pain and carrying His cross Christ NEVER played the part of victim. He forgave them even during it. So instead of whining about how this protestant or that one - or this catholic or that one - doesn’t agree or makes fun of your Faith, forgive them and move on while telling them about what Christ has done for you.
Hi brother, I agree with you, we cannot begin to compare ourselves with His Blessed Apostles. But we can compare ourselves with the sin sodden world of which I am part.

Our brothers and sisters in Christ are with us in our battle. They are performing magnificently against the enemy. We ignore that at our peril.

Blessings and peace to you brethren and also to my separated brothers and sisters in Christ.

🤷

Dude you are WAAAAAYYY missing my point. I speak of those who bash Catholics and all Christians. People bash different Christian denominations from are in the minority. BTW I have not heard the Pope or any Bishops who speak for the Church or RCC ans you call us “bash” our brother Christians. Our city has a very tight Christian presence, all the Churches work together.
I wished that Catholics were forthcoming in dialogue with other churches. Truth is that if others will not cowtow in their beliefs that the RCC is the one true Church, the dialogue stops.

A dialogue that does not hold to the TUTH that the Church is the One True Church is meaningless.

If you really are the one true church that Christ founded, then why do you give a hoot what anyone else thinks of you? It amazes me the extent some of you will go to play the victim’s role.
“And ye shall be hated of all men, for my name’s sake.” - Jesus Christ

So then everyone hates the RCC? That’s not even logical and it surely isn’t what Jesus was saying at all!
It isn’t logical to apply literalism to Jesus’ words here. “Of all men” is a statement that in modern English would equate to, “everyone”, which doesn’t mean every single person, but a general hatred.

Well, when you read a thing, you tend to look at the context in order to understand what the speaker is really saying. SIA, with all due respect, I was prepared for you to change the subject. As with the other thread, you’re not answering my arguments. Please do so when you feel so inclined.

But anyways, let’s compare:

Christ on the vicarious evening before His death calls the Apostles to silence, and says: “This is my Body… This is my Blood…”

Christ says to His Apostles as He goes about His teaching: “You will be hated of all men, for my name’s sake…”

In both cases, to contradict Christ is to call Him a liar. If you are truly Anglican and truly profess belief in Christ, and truly profess all that the Councils of the Church proclaim, and that Catholic faith which Anglicans must by virtue of their own catholicity proclaim, then you cannot deny what Christ has said. If you have some other interpretations, do explain.

The Anglicans don’t have the Eucharist because they don’t have valid Holy Orders as you well know.
you totally missed it. and you are also wrong on valid Holy Orders. Where is your authority to accept or deny?

You are the one who seemingly knows when to take Jesus at his word literally and when to say, he didn’t really mean that. I am Anglican and I accept all of what Scripture says. Why don’t you?

I accept all of what Scripture says in the context of the Scriptures. When you read anything, you don’t just take everything figuratively, and you don’t just take everything literally. Read in context, and you’ll see the difference. Read objectively and you’ll see the difference. Read with an agenda, and you’ll see what you want, when you want it, how you want it.

You forgot the first rule of Sola Screiptura. Scripture must always be takern literrally UNLESS a literal interpretation supports Catholic Doctrine.

Oh, yes, oops! Thanks for the reminder. I’m sorry, it must have been the total depravity of my nature. I can’t help it.
