I guess I’d fall under your definition of a “liberal” and I don’t like Islam. I think it’s as bad as Christianity. But, as far as I’m concerned the Bible also calls for homosexuals to be put to death, and many Muslims have grown up just as Christianity has.
Also, keep in mind that plenty of conservative Christians want to kill homosexuals, the laws of the West just prevent them from doing so. That is why Christian groups in the last few years have given great amounts of money and support to nations in which gays are routinely jailed, beaten, raped, or killed. Uganda’s push to execute homosexuals is almost entirely due to efforts by American Christians with Uganda’s government.
Fundamentalist American conservative Christians can’t kill gays in their own country, but they want to kill them so badly, they go to countries where this is more of a reality, or give money to countries that jail, torture, and/or kill homosexuals. NOM is famous for giving money to and spreading propaganda in nations where violence against gays is a huge problem.
Whenever I see an online news article about some country in which violence against homosexuals is on the rise, either by the government or their civilian populations, or both, I see a huge number of comments by Christians talking about how awesome this is and they wish they could kill gays here too.
Another problem in Africa is the “witch children.” American Pentacostal Christians went into West Africa and started doing huge pushes of propaganda that focused heavily on evil and driving out the devil. In the years since Pentacostals have moved in, thousands of children have been burned, tortured, killed, or exiled after being acused of demonic possession by Christian officials, typically bishops. For some reason they almost always focus on children as being either witches or demons. There was one case of a bishop who personally killed over one hundred children. There is an excellent documentary “saving Africa’s Witch Children” on the subject.
Isn’t it funny how Christians here in American scream and scream about stuff like being forced to provide birth control to people, yet have no problem giving money to Christian organizations that are responsible for the murder of children and homosexuals abroad? And even if they don’t actually support these groups, they sure don’t have anything bad to say about them either, do they? There aren’t any threads on this web site about Africa’s Witch children, are there? Even though these children, sometimes even babies, are being burned to death at an alarming rate.
Way to have your priorities straight, people.
I am very grateful for the rise of secularism in the West, because as the Christians lose power here, they are less likely to ever be able to instate the violent and oppressive policies their Muslim brothers have, or the violent and opppressive policies CHristians advocate in less secular parts of the world. To me, Christians and Muslims are two sides of the same coin. There are plenty of rational, moderate Christians and Muslims who just want to do their own thing and leave others alone. But there are unfortunately no lack of fannatics in both whose dearest wish is to burn all heretics.
