Why would you make such a claim? The problem is you have no comprehension of what it means to be Catholic. What do you mean by tradition of catholicity?
I would never associate evangelical catholic with protestant.

Absolutely. From the Orthodox point of view, the Latins have left the OHCA faith and are continuing to drift from it through the development of doctrine. If a stranger comes to town and asks where the nearest Orthodox Church is, no one would point them to a Catholic Church.
Does that mean Catholicism is, therefore, heterodox?
This is really great news!Lutherans and Anglicans continue to forge ever closer relationships to the point that they hold their respective general assemblies together in Canada, for example.
This is a very inaccurate statement to make about JonNC. He comprehends Catholicism better than most Catholics. The problem is you have no comprehension of what it means to be Catholic.
I’m sorry I’ve made you angry or frustrated. That wasn’t my intent.:banghead::banghead:
Sure. From their POV. And I think there we find the answer, at least in part, to the OP’s question. From our POV, we retain the very essence of catholicity.Absolutely. Yes, we painfully are aware of your own scholarship regarding Catholics“This is a very inaccurate statement to make about JonNC. He comprehends Catholicism better than most Catholics.”

What prevents the autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches from being likewise instituttionally united?Well I learn something new every day on this forum!
Thank you Jon.
What prevents them from being instituttionally united?
And neither would I.I would never associate evangelical catholic with protestant.
I think if any Catholic announces, “I am an Evangelical!” that ought to be dissuaded.I would strongly encourage my Lutheran siblings to refrain from taking offense at Catholics using the term Evangelical.

If by “you”, you mean, a generic “you”, as in, “When people say that they are evangelical catholic you * have no comprehension of what it means”…The problem is you have no comprehension of what it means to be Catholic.
I think, if left at that, (the Catholics says “I am an Evangelical!”, or if the Lutheran states,“I am a Catholic!”), I would agree, because it becomes misleading.I think if any Catholic announces, “I am an Evangelical!” that ought to be dissuaded.
Just like if a Lutheran announces, “I am a Catholic!”
(Unless, of course, he actually has converted.)
So we are agreed, then.I think, if left at that, (the Catholics says “I am an Evangelical!”, or if the Lutheran states,“I am a Catholic!”), I would agree, because it becomes misleading.
But when I put the qualifier “evangelical” with “Catholic”, it becomes clear what I am saying.
In the same way, when these folks say the same phrase, one can understand.
