Wisdomseeker,

Dont be so patronising - I am not confused at all! Again you are simply repeating yourself. You keep quoting events or text from the bible to back up your argument - the problem is every other religion - in fact every shade of christianity has arguments as to why their ideas are “true”.

You quote jesus saying I am the truth etc etc etc - every religion says the same thing. Hell, even the jungle religions that worship forrest spirits say this. Every religion HAS to have as it core that it can give meaning to your life and that other religions worship idols or false gods.

Where you brought up a catholic or did you join it in adult life?

If you bring up a child as a catholic, that child will think catholism is the only way to do things. However, I hold that there is no such thing as a *catholic **child *only a child of *catholic *parents. I see bringing religion down on children as a minor from of child abuse. You would raise a 1yr old child telling them they are a Capitalist or Communist child, would you?

So… EVERY religion claims it is the truth (I know you use a capital T, I dont…) not only yours.

And be very, very clear here, I’m not confused. = )
Confused, no. Self-deluded, yes. To call bring a child up in the faith as child abuse is one of the most twisted things I have ever heard. My guess is you are an adult still suffering from adolescent rebellion. We seem to get a lot of that here.

Hi CW

You say “Confused, no. Self-deluded, yes. To call bring a child up in the faith as child abuse is one of the most twisted things I have ever heard. My guess is you are an adult still suffering from adolescent rebellion.”

I find it unusual that someone who believes in a supernatural being is calling me deluded!

But anyway…

And yes - I stand by my view. Telling a child that all the ideas of Catholism are true as in FACT as opposed to an OPINION - is abuse. Young children take what you say as fact, to use that naivety to your own ends is twisted.

What would your opinion be of telling a child of 2 or 3 yrs that they are a communist? or capitalist? Should we divide children of Republican & Democrat families?

Does this make sence? I hold it is nonsence. BY ALL MEANS, introduce a child to ALL RELIGIONS. And I do mean all of them. Then, when they are an adult they can decide which religion offers the best ideas of how to live your life.

Am I rebelling? Well, in my country, the majority are in fact non-believers (65%), so it would be strange if I was rebelling against a minority now wouldnt it?! The idea is a litte amusing, in fact.

But, to be clear. After I gave up religion, in my early 20s, I was quite angry at the work of many religions. However, now anger has given way to concern - I am simply worried at the way that religions are behaving. Thats all!

Let me put it this way to you between you and Jesus, I pick Jesus anytime. what you are doing is telling us what to do. Jesus told us what to do. so i follow Jesus. you should listen to Him too. my advise to you is this: dont listen to your own self but listen to what Jesus has to say to you.

Hiya Wisdomseeker

I agree with you when it comes to the ethic of reciprocity or Golden Rule as told by Jesus: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.

I believe that should be the basis for human morality, and I’ve considered it at length - nearly all of the worlds religions contain the ethic of reciprocity.

But you are still saying that you look to your ancient text on how to behave. I dont agree.

I think humans can inform their judgement and moral education continuously - in fact I go further. I think it is *immoral *if you do *not *go out of your way to continuously inform your moral judgement. You cannot rely on ancient documents to supply you with how to determine right from wrong - you need to spend time thinking for yourself.

Jesus was a good role model. But ancient text is not where we get our morals from.

all the best

Jesus is much more than a whole model. He is the Son of the Living God. He is the Redeemer of mankind. He is the way to eternal life. do you believe in life after death?

ancient documents? which ancient documents?

we know what we know because God revealed it to us. do you believe God created all things? included man?

do you know why you live? who gave you life? and your parents lives?

This is wrong. We should always bring everyone to the Truth - that one can only be saved in the Catholic Church. This is a thrice-proclaimed dogma of the Catholic Church. Outside of It, there is no salvation. Introducing a child to other religions is a sin against the First Commandment.

This is** not** the Apologetics forum and the place to discuss the existence of God. I find your claim that religious education to be a form of child abuse both disturbing and an insult to those children who suffer real abuse. This attitude is the seed of the very religious oppression that you seem to fear.

This discussion will go no where with an atheist (17 posts, to date, joined 4 days ago) trying to sabatoge this with something so unrelated as the existence of God. An error in the begining is an error indeed.

I have been wondering lately why these types of threads are on the Traditional forum.

Angry at the work of religions you say? Wow. Your ignorance of the facts are astounding. The Catholic Church is the largest charitable organization in the world. More hungry are fed, more naked are clothed, more poverty-stricken are given medical care and education by the Catholic Church than any other organization in the world. Catholic scientists developed the scientific method, and Catholic scholars introduced universities. And you, by your own admission, are critical of this work. There are no words…
