There are some Non Catholics who have a great dislike for Mother mary. What could be the reason for this? They only quote Holy Bible saying there is no reference to any thing about her. I know someone who says show me on the Holy Bible where she is called Mother for all.

What is her relationship to the Catholics? Is she a Mother to all, if so what is the reference to this?

will appreciate some help on this.

thanks and God Bless

It comes from John 19:26,27

When Jesus tell John :“Behold, Your mother”…John then takes Mary into his own home and cares for her.

Catholics see that as the time when Jesus gave His mother to us as a our Mother as well.

.

I’ve never known ANY non-Catholic who dislikes Mary. Even non-Christians that do.

.

I have personally known older Fundamentalist who were bordered on blasphemy in their disregard for Mary. Well, actually, Fundamentalist of all ages.

I am not catholic, but it bothered me. A group of friends were discussing the differences between Catholics and their own beliefs. Quite a few still view the RCC as the great whore of Babylon, but if well mannered, they will not be very vocal about it in public.

I touched on being careful not to be flippant though when speaking about Mary. After all she gave birth to Jesus. She was his mother, In the South, you had better be careful when talking about somebody’s mother. Even as a little girl I did not like hearing things like that.

Here is the exact response I received:

“SO WHAT!!! It could have been anybody!” ***

My response was: “Anybody? So God could have chosen a whore to be the mother of his son? It did not matter?”

It got really quiet after that.

I have a friend from another state who is also a pastor, he said something once about it and I have to agree.

There are Christians who are so paranoid about Catholics and want NO connection to that faith what so ever, that they have gone to the other extreme and want nothing to do with Mary. They forget that even if we do not share the same beliefs, we should respect Mary as the mother of Christ, the Savior. God chose her before she was born. What she did, especially during that day and age, was a brave wonderful thing. Unwed mothers could be stoned to death.

And if we get upset when people trash talk our mothers, can you imagine how it makes Jesus feel?

I found though, that the average non Catholic is somewhere in the middle on their thoughts about her and have nothing against her. The Fundamentalist I know who are very anti catholic were also into King James onlyism.

I’m sorry ~ I’m not a Catholic and I LOVE MOTHER MARY ~ I never heard of such a thing.

Which non-Catholics “dislike” Mother Mary?

I don’t know anyone that dislikes Mary. But while most non-Catholics respect her for her role in bringing Jesus to us, we don’t regard her in the same sense Catholics do. I am in RCIA, learning about the church, but I just can’t see Mary like Catholics do. She did a wonderful thing, she played a major role by being His mother, and certainly deserves respect and admiration, but it sometimes seems she is focused on as much as Jesus and that just seems odd if you aren’t Catholic I guess. And as a non-Catholic it is hard to imagine praying to anyone else than Jesus (even though I know you aren’t really worshipping her).

there’s actually a verse about that! (the part about Jesus on the Cross and Mary and the beloved disciple) 🙂

I don’t know why some non Catholics have a great dislike for the Blessed Mother 😦

when I was a Protestant, I actually had a strong dislike for her, and now I see so clearly that it was from the devil. It’s purely demonic… there’s NO reason for anyone to hate Mary. I thank God that He turned this around and helped me to love her. Honestly…we can’t love her enough!

God bless

I don’t dislike her and most Christians don’t, however we don’t place her were she isn’t placed in Scripture. Yes she is blessed but not to be bowed down to or prayed to.

I used to 😦 very sadly…

that makes sense! =)

I think the OP was mostly talking about fundamentalist Protestants =) I know the Orthodox love Mary too!

well we ask her to pray for us just like we ask each other… (except that her prayers are way more powerful cause “the prayer of a righteous man avails much”, and she’s definitely very close to God :))

Well, NOW I’ve at least heard of ONE person (Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, Atheist or otherwise) who hated her… That’s one. May I ask, what made you have a personal “strong dislike” for Her? Was it her home town? The fact that she was probably young? Or that she was engaged? That was a person of faith? What about Her from the Bible gave you this strong, personal dislike for her personally? I’m just curious, being that you are the first person on the planet Earth (known to me, Christian or not) who has expressed such.

We don’t pray to each other and I know all about the tired argument of what prayer meant back then, it doesn’t mean that now. Notice that verse it talking about a living person, not a dead person. Mary and the others are dead in Heaven awaiting the second coming we Christians just don’t worship her as Catholics do. Yes many Catholics go way overboard, Christianity is about Christ not Mary

I’ve heard of this happening to others and even met some people like that (though they didn’t realize their dislike for her was wrong). I also met people who didn’t intentionally dislike her, but they did think she’s “nothing special” and “just a vessel” etc.

I honestly don’t know why I felt that way, and I tend to think it was a delusion from the enemy. Because it’s not natural at all. I was baptized Eastern Orthodox as a child, and was taught about Mary… I read about her in the book the Orthodox priest gave my family… I even had (still have) an icon of her. So I didn’t grow up with any such thoughts. But when I became a Protestant in university, I forgot about Mary cause she was never discussed in my (non denominational) church. Whenever I saw Catholics or Orthodox talk about her, I thought they focus on her more than on God. In time, I developed a dislike for her, though I don’t remember exactly how…

I realized this when I began feeling lead to the Catholic Church. I knew I’d have to overcome this… I asked God to show me the truth about Mary and to take away this dislike for her. Whenever I thought of her, I felt this weird hatred. 😦

I bought a Rosary and prayed it… with time, all this went away. In fact God turned it around and I began loving her 🙂 when I became Catholic, I got to know Mary better as my Mother and got to form a stronger relationship with her. Now, Mary is very special to me.

God bless

we ask each other to pray to God… we ask Mary to pray to God… all prayers eventually go to God and He decides how to answer.

we don’t worship her… we honour her as she’s meant to be honoured. She said, “all generations will call me blessed” - and that’s what Catholics do when we pray the Hail Mary.

she’s not dead. She’s ALIVE in Christ in Heaven… didn’t He conquer death?? He said…those who believe in Him will live, though they die. I know Mary is alive and she helps me with her prayers and I know her.

You said that “Christianity is about Christ not Mary”, but without Mary we wouldn’t have Jesus… God didn’t HAVE to use her, but He chose her, and she said yes. Do you think there’s a competition between Jesus and Mary? and they’re jealous of each other? lol. 🙂 we Catholics don’t see things in “either/or”… we believe God is glorified in the Saints and in all good things. When we honour Mary, we’re honouring God’s greatest masterpiece, His greatest creation… if you came to a gallery and didn’t even care to look at the artworks, do you think that would please the artist?

btw…Catholics ARE Christians…

I see so many misunderstandings in your post 😦

Sorry the dead can’t hear our prayers and why on earth would I want to go to anyone else in prayer when I have Christ. The Scripture never tells us to pray to anyone but God.

I don’t believe the RCC is a Christian place, yes Christians might be there but the RCC is not Christian itself. I use to be Catholic, I pray for Catholics to throw off their worship of mary and turn to Christ. No where in Scripture does it speak of Mary as Catholics do.

Mary is no more special than any of us, as Scriptures say God is no respecter of persons.

Oh boy, have you missed the boat and have been completely mislead by untruths.

I dont pray to Mary; quite the contrary, I ask her to pray for ME!.

Since she literally is the Son of God’s mother, she is the perfect person to go to and ask her to interceed for me.

That, to me anyway, is obvious.

Yes, right there in the scriptures…“all generations will call me blessed”…and so we do…

And when Christ HIMSELF left her in the care of John the Beloved, well we know she had the most Loving and Caring Son that ever walked the face of this planet.

Worship her? Heck no! But definitely aware of how much HE Loves her. I never fail to forget that reality set in stone and IN scripture. !
👍

Is it called Christianity or Maryity? The only perfect one is Christ

I call her blessed to. We just don’t go overboard and do something that was never instructed of Christians to do. We are to follow Christ if one wants to be a Christian not mary, she was a willing vessel as anyone could have been. We can see her example and learn from it but Christians should not make the error of the RCC and give a goddess like status to her

I

I honestly don’t know why I felt that way
Too bad. You are the first person on the planet Earth I know of - Christian or not - with a profound dislike for Mary, personally (well, you USE to). I was just curious what - in the Bible - lead to your deep feelings there.

.

Then your praying to he
Hardly. I ask members of my family to pray for me, and I certainly am NOT praying to them. I ask members of my parish to pray for me, and I definitely am not praying to them.
