Me, neither.

And yet we are here to discuss WHY these 5.5 BILLION people have a great dislike for Her, personally…

We need to identify these 5.5 billion people. THEN we can ask them what about Mary causes them such great personal dislike.

I don’t know even ONE of them. Which concerns me; am I so entirely isolated that I’ve never so much as met even ONE of these?

.
Don’t forget to subtract the 1.5 billion Muslims from your statistic. They have great honor and respect for the Blessed Mother. 🤷

Are they Catholics? The question we are to discuss here is this: “Why do non-Catholics dislike Mary.” The Catholic Church claims there are about 1 billion Catholics in the world. The current population of the world is about 6.5 billion, so we need to identify the 5.5 billion who have this profound dislike for Mary, personally.

I’ve never met even ONE of them.

.

I am sure that we all agree that Mary is alive with Jesus Christ today.
Good, NTS! I’m glad that you agree.

So, if Mary is alive with Christ then there’s no apparent barrier to her hearing our prayers and praying for us.

She is eternally before the throne of God offering praise and worship…and intercessory prayers for the world.

They’re non-Catholics who don’t dislike Mary, so naturally they should be excluded in the statistic. 👍

What evidence do we have that this is the case(that she can hear our petitions for intercession)?

This is undoubtedly true.

I can almost guarentee if search your local community for an “Independent, Fundamental, King James Only Baptist Church”, you will meet one…
😃

From a Catholic Answers tract:
One charge made against it is that the saints in heaven cannot even hear our prayers, making it useless to ask for their intercession. However, this is not true. As Scripture indicates, those in heaven are aware of the prayers of those on earth. This can be seen, for example, in [BIBLEDRB]Revelation 5:8,[/BIBLEDRB]

But if the saints in heaven are offering our prayers to God, then they must be aware of our prayers. They are aware of our petitions and present them to God by interceding for us.

We see Mary as an example for all, one of the first Christians, the chosen one who gave birth to the Son.
Yes she is a great example, yes she was one of the first Christians, and yes she gave birth to Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. But look at that last part. How can a person look at that and believe she is nothing but a common, sinful woman? She gave birth to Christ!

If you want to observe fundamentalist disrespect for Mary, watch this without gagging.
This preacher has the largest fundamentalist church in the country.

With all due respect: “So What”?

Now, I did hear a lot of stuff in that message that was highly speculative. And if you want to disagree with it, you will get no argument from me.

I did not hear anything in that message that would by any stretch constitute “dislike”.

Unless you want to cherry pick data points from that message and ascribe the worst possible motives to them.

But as I have said (repeating myself) that I can use the same technique and conclude that Catholics worship Mary.

This technique is wrong…no matter who uses it.

I don’t think I have.

I once tried to discuss the Catholic beliefs about Mary with some people I work with around Christmas time. We occasionally have religious discussions so it was not out of the ordinary. We were discussing Christmas and what Jesus coming into the world means for us. We are friends and consider ourselves sisters in Christ so I’m not about to bash them over the head with Mary. In fact, I got a bit tongue-tied trying to figure out the best, gentlest, most loving way to bring her up and we were already discussing the Birth of Christ. Mary sort of naturally came up. I hadn’t gotten more than a few words out when they said that they found “this discussion offensive” and would I please not continue. I suppose you had to be there and hear them for yourself. I can’t remember her exact words but the gist was that if I valued our friendship, I would never say her name again in front of them. I was rather taken aback with their vehemence on the matter - our continued friendship was on the line. One second we were having a friendly discussion and the next, I’m about to lose a couple good friends.

Why could we not even share our spiritual experiences as one Christian to another, as friends? Why could I not tell them about what Mary did for me? Why were they willing to sever our friendship if I ever tried to talk about Mary, anything about Mary, then or ever again? It seems pretty clear that they dislike her so much that they don’t even want to hear her name, even connected to the Birth of Christ.

I still work with them. Despite their attitude towards Mary, I still consider us sisters in Christ. They pray for me and I pray for them, and occasionally we even pray together. :gopray: :signofcross: :gopray:

Besides, I know Mary loves them as her children even if they don’t love her as their Mother because she wants all souls to be saved. She will continue to direct graces their way because they love her Son so much.
I might conclude that your friends find the Catholic theology and practices towards Mary to be offensive.

Now, even though I too disagree with your theology and practices towards Mary, I do think that being offended by them is a bit of an overreaction. If any Catholic at any time wants to pray to Mary or some Saint for me, feel free to. I am sure that in heaven they get somehow funneled to the same source.
AmateurPianist, I’m sorry if I offended you. I’m not sure what sort of non-denominational fundamentalists they are so I used something I thought was generic, sort of. I apologise for my choice of words.
I am slow to get offended on these boards (but when I do they are generally good ones). You have not begun to approach the level where I would consider getting offended.

But “fundamentalist” is a funny word. In the narrowest sense of the word, I am not one. True fundamentalists consider us Pentecostal types almost as deceived as you Catholics.

But then again, I don’t sense that YouTube video cited here was from a “fundamentalist” church in the narrow sense anyway (I could be wrong but I don’t get that sense).

However, in the broad sense some folks (like my elderly Methodist parents for example) use that word for all of us who have definite salvation experiences and have hooked up with churches that believe in the Bible in entirety as the written word of God. And of course to the American news media all of us who are Protestant yet oppose killing babies and gay marriage are of course “fundamentalists”.

If you concluded that we worship her, then you have not educated yourself on the Church’s Teaching. Are you a lurker or a learner?

How does this show that the saints, the Church Triumphant can hear us?

Why? I pray for my son all the time (he’s in the military), even though has does not ask me to do so. That they clearly pray for us is not evidence that they hear us. They are aware of our need for Grace, and pray for it. Thank God they do.

I don’t think it’s impossible for God to choose normal people for extraordinary tasks.

I look at Mary and I see all these positive things that I described above. The fact that I don’t think of her as a ‘superhuman’ doesn’t mean that I dislike Mary og disregard her.

You [SIGN]Totally Miss My Point[/SIGN]

Again my point is

The same techniques that some Protestants use to conclude that [SIGN]Catholics Worship Mary[/SIGN] are being used by some Catholics here to conclude that [SIGN]Protestants dislike Mary[/SIGN].

Both are [SIGN]Wrong[/SIGN]

(I guess I have an overfixation with the sign function today)

Hi Jon, I know it’s hard to understand. I always struggled with the idea that someone in Heaven (Besides God) could hear my prayers. But after I learned to love and ask Mary for her intercession, I could easily ask for the angel’s protection and the saints intercession, as well. To me, God loves it when we ask the saints to pray for us, because it is their constant prayers and guidance (along with Mother Mary’s) that keep us in tune to God’s bigger plan. Like they set the stage in a way.

I didn’t say God couldn’t do that. Normal people do great things all the time; all of them sinners. But my point is Mary may have been an ordinary woman, but her role in the Church is not something we can line up next to any other saints life.

“Superhuman” isn’t the word I would use. I would say “favored by God” as used in the Bible. 🙂

I agree that Mary’s role in God’s plan is something quite out of the ordinary. She is as you say “favored by God” (as Gabriel told Mary). She is the first among saints. But I don’t believe she was born without sin:)

It depends.

Now Revelation 5:8 (which you cite) does seem to indicate that those in heaven do have some sort of prayer ministry that might be directed towards those who remain on earth. It would not be an unreasonable conclusion to draw upon reading that verse.

But what I still don’t know is what shape that prayer ministry would have.

Now you obviously believe that the ministry has the shape of someone in heaven somehow being granted the ability to receive requests given by the faithful on earth to this person in heaven to life this request before the throne of grace.

I think there are other possible shapes of this prayer ministry that I prefer myself.

But I will find out how God manages heaven once I get there, not before.

There are some Non Catholics who have a great dislike for Mother mary. What could be the reason for this? They only quote Holy Bible saying there is no reference to any thing about her. I know someone who says show me on the Holy Bible where she is called Mother for all.

What is her relationship to the Catholics? Is she a Mother to all, if so what is the reference to this?

will appreciate some help on this.

thanks and God Bless
I think there are plenty of folks who dislike Mary and Jesus for that matter. Why? Who knows? They are many people in this world who are unchurched. Catholics certainly aren’t the only folks who love her, that’s for sure. She was a good woman and I for one admire her. I don’t know any Christians who don’t love and admire her (except I think there was a person who commented here who did say he or she disliked her at some point in their journey of life) - love your honesty by the way.

It is indeed sad that unchurched folks don’t know about her love and devotion to God or that Jesus loves so much he died for us. My hope is that folks who check out this forum can find out what a wonderful person she was and the love God has for all of us.

Thanks for raising an important issue.

I agree. What’s problematic to most Catholics is that they interpret hate for Mary as how most Protestants do not deeply honor her to the point of near worship…
But the honor Anglicans give to the king and queen of England is to the “point of near worship…” Honor the Mother of God not King Henry Vlll or Queen Elizabeth.
