We hate you because sub-conscientiously we know you are correct. We are all just in the second stage of grief
But seriously, I don’t think they hate you. I think if you asked a protestant “why do you hate catholics?” The response would be “I do not hate catholics”, and if they do hate your kind they probably are not christians. I do not doubt that there are many people in the protestant community really do hate your beliefs or their view of “your” beliefs.
Normally rude people are trying to get a point across and maybe it is an unpolished version or a premise or they do not fully understand the point that they are trying to make or they do not understand how to counter your point and rudeness is either conscientiously or sub- conscientiously a mask of those things. Some people do not associate a belief as a personal belief. Some people just think that rudeness is a good way to get a point across, and sometimes it is.
I often devils advocate in small groups, and sometimes try to white knight for the RcC, because even though my knowledge of your beliefs is sophomoric at best it is way better than all but two of my friends and that includes my Catholic friends. There is a complete lack of understanding even to the point where on multiple occasions now I have heard people say that Catholics are not Christians. This was in separate groups with many different denominations being represented and no one corrected these people. The two times this happened I slack jawed and face palmed. You need to know that normal protestants know nothing about the catholic church.
