I used to be a Baptist until someone actually told me the real truth about the church, since Catholics were the first true church and all. I’m just not sure if other religions that BROKE off of the catholic church and decided to do their own damn thing are taught to disrespect Catholics? Just throwing that out there, I never see a Catholics disrespect other church’s…
First of all where in God word does it mention that the true church is the catholic church. Matt 16 has already been refuted unless you want to add to God’s Word. Also what church’s broke away from the catholic church and are taught to disrespect catholics.

Under what circumstances has Matthew 16 been conclusively refuted?

I think there is a real lack of understanding and a failure to appreciate the fact that we are all trying to love God, care for one another, and lean on our savior. I do think, though, that both Catholics and Non-Catholic Christians can sometimes carry on a “persecuted minority” attitude with one another, leading to escalation and disconnection of dialogue.

I’m just glad to be around people of faith…no matter what their faith. They help me learn to be a better person of faith.

From what I’ve seen so far all you have encountered for the Most part are Non-Catholics bashing us. Just you wait! you’ll see Catholics saying bad things etc. etc

Reality is quite a different thing. .I’m really yukking in up reading the Non-Catholics Bash us while telling you to wait & see how we bash them. I guess they mean Answer their “questions” with Facts & Scripture & Historical Documentation. I can see where there being completed repudiated might seem like Bashing to them. Just Brotherly love, correction & education on our part.

I child rarely Appreciates Discipline or Correction when its being administered.

Bottom Line is Many Non-Catholics feel the inherent need to Raise themselves up by Standing on the Bones of those that preceded them. After all their sect/cult/denomination wouldn’t exist at all except that the guys before them ‘Got it all Wrong’ but their GUY/GAL has found the 1 true secret & special Pass into heaven for them. But you got to belong to else you go to hell. ROFLMAO at that but sadly it’s true.

Welcome Home to You & to many of our Anglican Brethren also.

start with the Baptists, most Calvinists of all ilks. pentacostals, ETC ETC
Anglican & Lutheran are most accepting of Catholics, the rest denounce us almost Daily in these many forums. Fortunately in here we do seem to get More of the Thinking & reflective members when engaged in real conversations & not the cheap “Gee, Why do all you Catholics Worship Idols” types.

Absolutely. that is the mindset of Most Catholics. well put.

Obviously the OP has never been to a good, old-fashioned Lutheran family feud. For example, if you are Wisconsin/Missouri and someone brings up ELCA…

As for RCs disrespecting others, it’s a time-honored tradition on this forum.

Some long-time Catholic citizens of this forum are great and are here to learn by talking about hot issues with people outside of their circle. They are intellectually curious, will study viewpoints other than their own, and are just here to enrich their and others’ faiths. Others just get riled up on other parts of the site and wander over when they are in a bad mood to blast some protestants. 😦

Some see this forum as a way to convert others, but their approach is so confrontational that they end up pushing people away. It’s as if they expect others to just be floored by what they have to say and don’t want to go through the work of explaining and convincing others. Perhaps they expect that their church teachings will do the talking and non-Catholics will ignore their behavior, but that isn’t the way people work. Ultimately, non-Catholics will judge Catholicism by the behavior of those who are in the church. It’s one reason I laugh whenever a Tetzel thread pops up and I get the “well, he was going rogue and Catholics never really taught what he taught” treatment- whether he was following the latest documents to come out of Rome or not, he was still the face of the church for many people. So it is with Catholics on this website.

It’s a two way street, by the way, which is why I think some denominations do better than others on this board. Some make more of an effort to emphasize our common spiritual identity and work through issues than others. Some protestants show up just to poke Catholics with a sharp stick. It happens.

Other Catholics are much better at staying patient and explaining their position despite having had to explain it many times before. I can honestly say that if I ever convert, it would be those gentle and humble individuals who would be able to claim at least some credit for it (ultimately, I go where I think God wants me to go).

Like the protestants that show up here, the Catholics are a mixed bag. 🤷 It’s just how humanity is.

.
What are you talking about? When someone brings up the ELCA, we always welcome…
ok, we sometimes enjoy…hmm, we occasionally see eye to…

We love our siblings in the ELCA. 😉

Having been back in my old Anglican parish for the past seven weeks or so, I have to say that the respect and love for Roman Catholics is not what I’m seeing here. These folks are not pope-friendly! And when Benedict issued that offer for Anglicans to come over to the RCC, that was greeted in a New York minute like a Three Muskateers bar in the swimming pool!

Many Protestants attack the Catholic Church because that’s part of their job and that is also how they got their name:

Protestant = Protest against the Catholic Church.

God bless,

It doesn’t take much to get us Lutherans worked up. Especially when the subject matter involves the “C” word (change). 🙂

Gurney sorry to hear that, Could it be because that Particular Anglican church was one of those that has veered so far to the Left that they left the Bible? Remember Sinners look for other sinners to try & justify their sins. It is my hope that many fine & decent Anglicans will avail themselves of the Opportunity to come home to the Catholic Church. Its not easy but the Truth in Life is worth the trip.

Good luck with your continuing Journey. 🙂

Hi kingdad,

No, it’s an ACNA Anglican parish, broken off from the Episcopal Church. In Anglican circles it would be considered “conservative.” But remember conservative in Anglicanism is not conservatism is Catholicism LOL…Thanks for your words of encouragement…🙂

I have to concur with protestants being fundamentally anti-catholic.

Sure there are many protestants who are not overtly against catholicism. But protestantism itself formed on the basis of anti-catholicism. Just look at the view of catholicism held in predominately protestant states until modernism and iss associated problems came to the fore. So although individuals may not be overtly anti-protestant there is definitely a latent anti catholicism in protestantism which is expressed by many protestants and is held inside by many others.

So, that would make catholicism anti-protestant.And here I thought Jesus preached radical inclusion and love of neighbor. Frankly, I think both sides have it wrong and need to try to heal the bonds. If institutions aren’t going to do it, then it’s up to individuals to come together.

You must be a newbie here.

Well I’ve been told in another thread that my church is a brothel.🙂

The all time winner since I have been hear was a thread in the Traditional Catholic forum titles (about like) “The closer I get to the church the more I despise Protestants”.

I was hunting for this thread, but I see it has been removed.

Runner up was a recent thread “How come there is no holiness in Protestant churches”

Third place was a comment that “Protestants just go through the motions with their worship”

I went to report this thread, but that comment was posted by a moderator. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse.

It is really quite funny sometime the Respect, tolerance, and virtue that the One True Church shows to all of the heretics here. It really makes me want to leave my heretical institution and join up with God’s favorite church.
Hi Amatuer, I too have been on the above threads and I too have been bashed by my fellow Catholics because I do love all people no matter their religions. I have been to a great number of Churches, Baptist for 18 years (loved it there), Pentecostal for 18 years (loved it there) and now I am back in my childhood church and love it here. I have been told I was going to hell here on one thread and a whole bunch of other things. Never in my life have I been so insulted as I have here on some threads. But you know what I feel honored to be bashed, cause i feel like I am doing what God wants me to do and that is love one another. The name on the door doesn’t mena a thing if you don’t have Jesus in you heart. God Bless you all in your journey with Christ.

That’s because what you don’t understand, you fear…

I was thinking with you that catholics must be anti-protestant and that is true for many, but many, many more seem to ‘look down their noses’ at protestants. They see themselves as first class Christians and non-catholic Christians are, at best, 2nd class.
