Why do people leave the Catholic Church?

I can’t understand people who leave their faith (Catholicism) because of their political/world views (and then call it reasons of conscience).
Hi Josie,

I’d like to encourage you to try to understand such people. Only good can come of it. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

People leave the Catholic church because Catholics do not follow God’s word, the Bible. Ralph
Uh-oh, another Ralph.
Hi Ralph,

I respectfully disagree with your blanket assertion. I’ve been inquiring into the truth claims of the Catholic Church and I’ve yet to discover a major Catholic doctrine or practice that does not have biblical endorsement.

Do you know of one? If so, please post the details.

Expectantly,
Mick

Perhaps even start a new thread for it.

Suggestively,

OK. But how would the introduction be worded? There simply aren’t any Catholic doctrines or practices that do not have biblical support so there couldn’t and wouldn’t be any posts. Any thoughts?

Cluelessly,
Mick

Oh would that that could happen here! I just got done reading on another thread that a person got 5 Martyr points because I called his continuing calling of me a heretic because I am Anglican, “disgusting.” Some of us rather suspected this was not a level playing field. Now the cat is out of the bag it seems.

That seems essentially the problem. We can’t discuss issues, because we can’ get past the initial arguments. Catholics are no doubt tired of being accused of worshiping Mary, which they don’t, and we are tired of being called heretics and having no real sacraments. These are matters in the end of opinion rather than fact.

perhaps it is the nature of a forum devoted to apologetics rather than discussion. Saint Dominic began the process of teaching the clergy their faith so they could 'defend" it. It has now been preverted to a point where one makes up the “best” scenario argument to sustain the church’s position regardless whether it holds water or not. In fact, often it is not the church’s position at all but the individual’s interpretation of it. And when I speak of church, I mean no particular denomination.
So you left God’s one true church to join an organization founded by rampant king, who wanted to be Pope and to be able to remarry and kill as many wives as he wanted? Nice. Good for you.

I don’t think it would be an issue. Ralph(y) could quote your question, and then state his answer. (Assuming he has one, obviously; if he doesn’t he presumably won’t bother starting a thread. :))

Oh, I see. I thought you were suggesting that I should start the thread. Well, pressure’s off, then. Leave it to Ralph(y).🙂

No, what Henry Vlll thought he needed/wanted was a male heir.

If Katherine of Aragon had given him sons who lived to adulthood, English religious history might have been different.

Henry became obsessed with the need for such an heir not with killing wives in itself.

Rampant king? I suppose you are referring to the stylin’ and profilin’ Albion liege Lord King Henry VIII?

He wasn’t all bad, you know. After all, he did bestow a knighthood upon the loin steak.

Circumspectly,
Mick

Thats dont sound very nice, what If I said, why would I want to join a
church that killed people who didn’t swear allegiance to it.

Hello all 🙂

Just joined and I must say " Geezo Poopers " is this thread a good indication of how people treat eachother here ???

If I am not mistaken, the OP asked for perspectives as to why some leave the Catholic Church.

I must have missed the part where the OP asked " who can be more insulting, Catholics or Non Catholics "??

Peace,
CJ

Hello CJ and welcome,

You are quite right to call us to order. Why do you think people leave the Catholic Church?

Speaking for myself, I think I’m done with this thread (not meaning any offense to Mick/SSTeacher who, I believe, started the thread with the best of intentions).

🙂 In other words God’s ways are different from our own. I’ll pray for them. 🙂 Hopefully they will find their way back home.

Mick,
I have read through all the posts, or at least the majority of them in this thread… And as many posters have said…there are many reasons.
Good post!
Your experience parallels my own.I also did three tours in Viet Nam (('67-"71) but I went as an atheist (God help me) I returned and fought with my demons for ten years (PTSD, combat in the delta,Riverine Patrol Force) and struggled to make sense of it
all, lost my family. A fellow vet challenged me to let God help me and I found peace in Jesus, through Him and his blessed Mother. So, in a sense, I returned to the home that I only dimly knew. I now have a devout Catholic family of ten (and growing,13 grandchildren, so far) Thank you Lord. And Welcome Home Brother!

Welcome to CAF - sorry your first contact is with a thread that has got very heated at times.

You’ll be pleased that the answer is no. There are a few threads that have been worse and there are many where people treat each other with respect while disagreeing.

The ones where people treat each other well tend to be those where people ask for personal assistance with queries/problems but there are exceptions.

Also you’ll get to know who treats other posters with respect when there are differences and those who don’t. I try to ignore the later as I don’t want to emulate them.

And if that was started as a thread (and I NOT advocating that) I suspect we’d just be to round 2!

Hello SSTeacher,

Not sure my intention was to " call to order " but fair enough my new friend.🙂

I think there are indeed a variety of reasons why people leave.

These range from personal hurt, new crowd of friends, struggle with a teaching, found something else more appetizing to the palet, simply bored, and several more in between.

I was very interested in what others would offer.

Peace,
CJ

Thanks, Peter, for participating. I appreciate your insights. The thread hasn’t gone quite as I’d hoped and I admit that I haven’t been as consistently helpful as I might have been. Oh, well.

Regretfully,
Mick
😊

Do you really want us to answer that? 😃

Hi Salonika,

Fair enough 🙂

No apology needed, thanks for the welcome.
