Someone above said there are a multitude of reasons for leaving, and I’d say that’s accurate both in general and for many individuals. I know for me it was not just one issue but several factors that cropped up over the years that led to my own departure from Catholicism. Theological differences, issues with papal the papacy, dogmatic disagreements, issues with the catechism, the sex abuse scandal (and the terrible response to it) hit way too close to home, familial issues with the RCC, and more. Really the more I learned about my cradle church, the less I wanted to be a part of it. Ultimately it didn’t just drive me from the RCC but Christianity for many years.
